  • Patent number: 4742181
Abstract: A method and apparatus for closing an exposed area of aerial cable is described. A foraminous barrier is placed around the cable adjacent the exposed area. A cover is placed thereover. The foraminous barrier permits water to pass through the cable without accumulating at the exposed area. However, debris, dirt, and other contaminants are prevented from entering the exposed area.

  • Patent number: 4732628
Abstract: An exposed portion of an electrical cable is sealed by applying a sealant material to the exposed cable and then placing the ends of a split unitary cover over the sealant material in overlapped disposition. The cover is then compressed into contact with the sealant material. In repairing a damaged cable sheath, a reinforcing member may be placed over the sealant material prior to placing the cover thereover.

  • Patent number: 4691083
Abstract: An apparatus for venting or draining an electrical cable is disclosed. The apparatus includes a support pad for disposition over a vent opening placed in the cable. An elongate vent tube extends from the support pad over the cable opening. An outer housing surrounds the vent tube and provides an annular chamber therewith for trapping rainwater, preventing entry into the cable.

  • Patent number: 4685981
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a sealed cable splice area is disclosed. The cable splice area is wrapped with an open cell spacer web. An adhesively coated liner is separately wrapped around the cable and the spacer web to form a pocket around the splice area. The pocket is filled with a cable encapsulating material which flows completely around the electrical conductors of the splice area. The filled pocket is then sealably wrapped to seal the cable splice area.

  • Patent number: 4545830
Abstract: Gas pressurized electrical cables, having a portion of an outer sheath removed for repair or splicing, are sealed while under pressure by providing at the exposed cable portion a gas pressure escape vent having a vent opening of area less than that of the cable exposed portion. Sealant tape is wrapped around the exposed cable portion and the vent exterior effectively sealing the entire exposed cable portion with the exception of the vent opening through which the gas escapes while such sealant tape is applied. The vent opening, being smaller than the original exposed cable portion, is readily sealably closed as by suitably plugging such vent opening and covering same with a sealant material.

  • Patent number: 4511415
Abstract: A method of sealing an exposed area of electrical cable includes forming an enclosure around the exposed area and interposing inlet means into an opening in the enclosure. An encapsulant is poured into the enclosure through the inlet means to surround the exposed area. The enclosure and the inlet means are then sealably covered.

  • Patent number: 4484962
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing strain relief to a cable splice area is disclosed. A length of flexible cord is secured to the cable on each side of the splice. A frictional substrate is supported over the cord and the cable. The frictional substrate is compressily secured to the cable thereby frictionally supporting the cord to the cable.

  • Patent number: 4358634
Abstract: A protective cover for use particularly in a sealed splice of electrical cables comprises a generally cylindrical, elongate tubular member having a wall the ends of which are in overlapping relation over a circomferential portion of the tubular member. A groove extends radially into the inner circumferential surface of the tubular member and axially therealong at least for a portion of the length of the member. It is preferred that the tubular member be formed from a pre-contoured sheet of rubber-like material, the inner contoured sheet surfaces being coated with a sealing material.

  • Patent number: 4332975
Abstract: An enclosure for encapsulating and sealing a cable includes a rigid, hollow cylindrical sleeve having an inner wall surface defining a chamber for receiving a portion of the cable therein. One end of the sleeve is sealably enclosed by an end seal and at the other sleeve end an end cap encloses the chamber. An inner disc is spaced longitudinally interiorly of the end cap to define with the end cap and with the inner wall surface, a cavity. An aperture is provided through the sleeve portion in registry with the cavity. Both the inner disc and end cap have apertures therethrough for passage of the cable. A sealing ring of mastic is sealably affixed around the inner wall surface of the sleeve and a sealing band of mastic is sealably affixed around the cable, the sealing ring and sealing band both contacting the inner disc at its longitudinally interior surface.
