  • Patent number: 6940766
Abstract: A method for locating a repair solution for a memory that includes a memory array comprising a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns, N redundant rows, and M redundant columns is described. Both N and M are integers, where N is greater than or equal to zero and M is greater than or equal to zero. The N redundant rows and the M redundant columns are collectively referred to as redundant lines. The method includes generating a first defect matrix representing defects in the memory array. Additionally, the method includes recursively, until either the repair solution is found or the redundant lines are consumed: selecting a first line represented in the defect matrix and having at least one defect; generating a second defect matrix by eliminating at least the defects in the first line from the first defect matrix; and determining if the repair solution is found.

  • Patent number: 6301681
Abstract: The present invention uses an acoustic modem embedded in a remote device enhanced with automatic repeat request and forward error correction routines to provide reliable transfer of electronic messages from the messaging server to the remote device. This may provide significantly better error correction than standard PC modems. Also the present invention, may provide a fast, reliable connection sequence by use of a preamble frame. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method of communicating messages between a messaging server and a remote device is provided. The method includes a variety of steps such as establishing a connection between the messaging server and the remote communication device by transmitting a preamble frame, exchanging data frames between the remote device and the messaging server, detecting and correcting errors in received frames, and re-transmitting received frames, if errors are uncorrectable.

  • Patent number: 6148077
Abstract: A system and method for providing user feedback for coupling the speaker and microphone of a communications device with the mouthpiece and earpiece of a telephone handset is provided in which the device may indicate to the user when a poor coupling exists causing a poor signal quality value to be generated. The system may provide feedback to the user, which may be visual or audible, so that the user may correct the interface between the communications device and the telephone handset until a predetermined quality signal is generated indicating that communications may occur between the communications device and the telephone handset.

  • Patent number: 6084952
Abstract: A system and method for communicating electronic messages between a remote device and a messaging server over telephone lines using acoustic coupling. Information is communicated between the remote device and the messaging server using acoustical tones corresponding to the information. The messaging server provides store-and-forward capability for messages received from external sources and which are then forwarded to the remote device. The remote device generates acoustical tones corresponding to information to be transmitted to the messaging server. The acoustical tones are transmitted to the messaging server over a telephone network which is acoustically coupled to the remote device. The messaging server performs processing based on information received from the remote device. The messaging server generates acoustical tones corresponding to information, including messages, to be transmitted to the remote device.
