  • Publication number: 20230196422
Abstract: An Internet-based disease monitoring system may include a miniaturized disease sensor device, which is coupled to a sensor, such as a spirometer, and a transmitter configured to transmit raw input signals from the sensor to a mobile device as cellular voice or text data for forwarding to a remote server. A remote server may be coupled to the network-based disease sensor device to provide analysis of raw input signals from the sensor. The remote server may be able to provide various services for grouping or handling functions relating to such input signals. A service may provide the ability to aggregate input signals from multiple sensors coupled to sensor devices and provide predictive modeling or statistical analysis, which may then be used to adjust future input signals. A service may also contain instructions how to handle billing based on usage of the network-based disease sensor device.

  • Publication number: 20160235935
Abstract: An endotracheal tube securement device is disclosed. The device provides a sanitary and secure way to retain aft endotracheal tube. The device employs bite wedges to prevent a patient from biting the endotracheal tube, while providing an unobtrusive, comfortable and secure means for maintaining the endotracheal tube in place. The device is less visually traumatic than current arrangements. The device is small, with little to no facial contact, providing minimal obstruction of the oral cavity for hygiene and clinical management. The device has a first limb and a second limb joined at a junction that forms a rest for the endotracheal tube. There is a tube retainer attached to the tube rest. A first strut protrudes from the first limb to retain a first bite wedge, and a second strut protrudes from the second limb to retain a second bite wedge. A suction feature may also be provided.

  • Patent number: 7281289
Abstract: A toothbrush operable by a user has a handle having a distal end, a head having a proximal end extending from said handle's distal end and bristles extending generally in a first direction designated “forward”. The head has a first orientation relative to the handle when the head is relaxed, the head being pivotable relative to said handle out of the first orientation to a second orientation rearward of the first orientation, when a force greater than a predetermined threshold level is applied to the head in a direction generally opposite the first direction. The head remains out of the first orientation until it is manually returned by the user to the first orientation.

  • Patent number: 6347471
Abstract: A transportable sign or message holder supports and displays replaceable signs or messages. A transparent front panel of polymeric material permits a sign or message to be viewed through the front panel. A rear panel, located behind the front panel, forms a cavity between the two panels and receives and supports a replaceable sign or message. The front and rear panels are attached at the bottom of the cavity and support the lower edge of a sign or message in the cavity. A pair of suction cups are mounted along the side edges for holding the two panels together and for detachably mounting the panels on a supporting structure.

  • Patent number: 5816246
Abstract: This invention relates generally to instrumentation for pulmonary monitoring and diagnosis and particularly to a compact, hand held, battery powered spirometer, measuring and monitoring expiratory and inspiratory flow rates, volumes and other lung function parameters. An electronic "pocket" spirometer comprises an elongated handle having a mouth piece connected to a flow chamber mounted on one end thereof as an integral assembly. The flow chamber includes a centrally mounted pivotal vane which is restrained by a spring and driven by incoming breath to provide an output signal through an optical encoder to a microprocessor. The vane may move forward or backward providing expiratory as well as inspiratory flow/volume measurement. An optical wheel is locked in synch with the vane and moves correspondingly to activate the encoder which supplies flow rate and volume signals and other calculated parameters to an LCD display.

  • Patent number: 5290243
Abstract: A trocar system is provided for use in obtaining access into a body cavity for laparoscopic/endoscopic procedures. The trocar system includes a protective housing releasably secured to a trocar housing. An obturator shaft is slidably mounted within the housings and has a stylet at an end thereof terminating at a sharp tip. The obturator shaft is movable in a direction of movement between a retracted position, wherein the sharp tip is retracted into the protective housing, and an extended position, wherein the sharp tip extends out of the protective housing. The trocar system also includes a latching and release mechanism provided within the trocar housing for latching the shaft in its extended position and for releasing the shaft to allow retraction thereof to its retracted position. This latching and release mechanism includes a slide plate movable between first and second positions for permitting movement of the obturator shaft between its retracted and extended positions.

  • Patent number: 5224487
Abstract: A portable peak flow meter for monitoring the expiratory flow rate of a user includes an on-line metering unit having a combination cover and handle. The metering unit, which has opposed mouthpiece and exit ends, is of generally rectangular construction. A pair of opposed and hinged cover elements are pivotly mounted to the side walls of the metering unit, and pivot from a first position in which they embrace and cover the mouthpiece, to a second position perpendicular to the length of the metering unit in which they serve as a handle. The cover elements both maintain the mouthpiece in a sanitary condition when the unit is not in use and allows the unit to be held in a manner where the user's hand is distanced from the meter, thus preventing interference with operation of the unit.
