  • Patent number: 6333178
Abstract: UmuC is found to be a translesion replication DNA polymerase which replicates in the presence of UmuD′, RecA and SSB through a DNA lesion of damaged DNA molecule and which is found to be highly mutagenic during in vitro gap-filling replication. A method for replicating a DNA molecule with DNA lesion damage and a method for mutagenesis of a DNA molecule are provided.

  • Patent number: 4763837
Abstract: In one aspect a novel valve, when used with water conveying conduits of water supply or of irrigation systems, will purge them of residual water in the conduits, when the water supply is "cut off", but will close the system when the water supply is on (e.g. there is water pressure above a predetermined threshold, or a "head" occurs). When this valve is closed the system then operates, conventionally, and for irrigation systems to eject water from water dispensing nozzles or spray heads located at or in proximity to the ground surface so that irrigation can take place. With this novel valve, the periodic (or annual) need to purge the irrigation system of residual water to clean out contaminants or to prevent winter freeze-up is avoided, since self-purging of the residual water and of any water suspended solids in the network takes place each time the water pressure in the system is reduced to approximately zero (or to below the said predetermined threshold pressure), as on each occurance of water shut off.

  • Patent number: 4736812
Abstract: Where automated travel of the vehicle is desired, and there are a number of branches, for directing the vehicle along a variety of different paths, it is be convenient for the vehicle to include a specific sensor means for sensing precoded control instructions placed contigious to the path, whereby to determine which branch path is to be selected by the vehicle as it travels among the main or any of a plurality of branch paths thereof so as to accomplish its task.

  • Patent number: 4703536
Abstract: The present invention discloses a fluid driven washing device having a pressurized fluid supply conduit for supplying fluid to the device. The device is comprised of a handle portion, an assembly for producing reciprocating motion in the device, a control mechanism for controlling the reciprocating motion of the assembly, and a scrubbing member in communication with the reciprocating motion assembly, wherein the reciprocating motion assembly drives the scrubbing member in a rotating reciprocal motion. Mechanisms are also disclosed for supplying soap to the scrubbing member in a desired amount and integrating a shower head into the device.

  • Patent number: 4657087
Abstract: In a particular species of the preferred embodiment, the invention contemplates a land traveller such as a farm tractor pulling a passive load such as a plough, disc or the like. A control device for directing or controlling the path of travel of the vehicle over a field, and also regulating or controlling the depth of penetration of the plough or disc into the surface of the ground according to a predetermined depth irrespective of the terrain profile. The path control system consists of locating in a predetermined way, a track whose position is sensed by an electromagnet, and the relative position of the magnet is sensed by appropriate devices such as resistence measuring devices (strain gauges or variable resistors or reostats), photoelectric devices whose values are decoded through a microprocessor whereby steering of the prime mover along the predetermined path is maintained.
