Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a necktie, and more particularly, to a necktie whose length can freely be adjusted to suit a wearer's height and/or taste, etc. when he puts on the necktie. A conventional necktie may be referred to describe the present invention. In order to allow a wearer to adjust a length of the necktie to suit his height and/or taste, etc., a knotting part and a neck surrounding part are formed with two strips. To opposite ends of the strips are respectively attached a hook part and a pile part which constitute a Velcro. A length adjusting unit is set into the knotting part, and the necktie is hung down from the length adjusting unit. Therefore, the wearer can easily put on the necktie by attachment and detachment of the hook and pile parts of the Velcro, when he tries to wear the necktie. In addition, the length of the necktie can be freely adjusted by means of the length adjusting unit. Accordingly, it is made possible to put on a necktie whose length is appropriately adjustable to suit a wearer's taste and/or height, etc.

[0003] 2. Background Art

[0004] A necktie is a strip of material worn round the collar and tied in a knot at the front with the ends hanging down. Such a necktie is generally comprised of a single strip comparatively broad in width, having a leading end and a trailing end, both in the form of triangle. The breadth of the strip is gradually narrowed, in the form of a trapezoid, from the triangle-shaped leading end to the middle, narrowest part of the necktie, and a rectangle-like shape is taken from the middle, narrowest part and to the trailing end of the necktie. Because of this shape, it is complicated and also time-consuming to tie a knot in a conventional necktie. In addition, if the tied knot is ugly in shape or the length of the necktie after tying a knot does not suit the wearer's taste and/or height, the tied knot should be untied and then tied again, thereby being liable to make the wearer annoyed.

[0005] FIG. 7 is a front elevational view of a conventional necktie, and FIG. 8 is a front elevational view of another conventional necktie. As shown therein, there have been proposed devices to shorten the time required to tie a knot of the necktie. FIG. 7 shows a device of tying a necktie disclosed in Korean Utility Model Laid-Open No. 90-2334, the device being comprised of two elastic band parts 1, and a joint part 2 formed by connecting a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro 21 attached to opposite ends of the two elastic band parts 1. While the wearer is not wearing the necktie, the necktie can be stored without necessity of untying the knot of the necktie. Thus, the wearer can easily and conveniently put on the necktie by connecting the hook and pile parts of the Velcro attached to the opposite ends of the band parts, such that there is no need to tie a knot in the necktie. This device serves to save the time required to put on the necktie; however, the length of the necktie is still unable to be adjusted adaptively to suit the wearer's height and/or taste. Further, as time passes, the knot of the necktie cannot retain its shape because of the lack of a unit for retaining the knot of the necktie in its proper shape (hereinafter referred to as “shape retaining unit”).

[0006] FIG. 8 illustrates another device of tying a necktie disclosed in Japanese Utility Model First Publication No. 52-40212. This device is configured with a shape retaining unit made of vinyl, etc., the form of which is made as to correspond to a knot of a conventional necktie in shape, and an elastic wire which is inserted into the shape retaining unit. In addition, the hook and pile parts of a Velcro are attached to a tie body at appropriate positions. When it is desired to wear the tie, the elastic wire is wrapped around the neck, and the user ties a knot in the tie body, such that the knot is formed around the shape retaining unit, and then attaches the two parts of the Velcro to each other in order to secure the tie knot in place. With this device, the knot of the necktie can remain round in shape owing to the shape retaining unit, and the wearer can have the same appearance as if he were wearing a conventional necktie. However, since the shape retaining unit is supported by the elastic wire, this elasticity puts a pressure on the wearer's neck. Due to this pressure, the wearer has a sense of pressure on his neck, thereby feeling discomfort and inconvenience. In addition, this necktie cannot be adjusted adaptively to suit the wearer's height and/or taste.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above-described shortcomings, and an object of the present invention is to provide a necktie which is easily put on, a knot of the necktie being able to retain its shape with a relatively simple unit of retaining the shape, different from the conventional shape retaining unit, and the length of the necktie after making a knot can be adaptively adjusted to suit the wearer's height and/or taste, by means of a unit of adjusting the length of the necktie.

[0008] This and other objects of the present invention may be accomplished by the provision of a necktie, comprising two strips, one of which is sufficiently long to make a knot, and the other of which is shorter in length than the first strip; a knotting part and a neck surrounding part formed with the strips; a detachable part having a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro, which are respectively attached to opposite ends of the neck surrounding part, for setting the necktie around one's neck; a unit of retaining the shape of the knotting part, formed with a piece of plastic (hereinafter referred to as “shape retaining piece” for the present invention), set into the knotting part so as to allow the knotting part to have a convex surface; a hanging portion which is similar to a conventional tie body having a leading end and a trailing end, both of which are triangular in shape, and representing a trapezoid in shape tapered from the leading end to the trailing end; and a length adjusting unit set into the knotting part, capable of adjusting the length of the hanging portion, including a main body supporting the hanging portion and insert parts formed on both terminals thereof, for being inserted into the knotting part.

[0009] Preferably, the insert parts on the terminals of the length adjustable unit may be formed in the shape of a coil.

[0010] Also preferably, the insert parts on the terminals of the length adjustable unit may be formed in the shape of a disk.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0023] Hereinbelow, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0024] FIG. 1a is an exploded perspective view of a necktie according to the present invention, FIG. 1b is a side sectional view of the necktie according to the present invention, FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a knotting part and a neck surrounding part, formed with two strips, according to the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a top plan view of the knotting part according to the present invention;

[0025] FIG. 4a is a perspective view of a length adjusting unit according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 4b is a perspective view of a length adjusting unit according to another embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 4c is a perspective view of a length adjusting unit according to still another embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a shape retaining piece according to the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a rear elevational view of a hanging portion of the necktie according to the present invention.

[0026] Unlike a conventional necktie forming a knotting part with a single strip, a knotting part is formed with two strips in the necktie according to the present invention. A strip 12 is sufficiently long to make a knot whereas a strip 13 is shorter than the strip 12. A knotting part 14 and a neck surrounding part 15 are formed with the strips 12 and 13. A detachable part 16 includes a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro attached to opposite ends of the strips 12 and 13, for allowing the necktie to be held onto a wearer's neck. A shape retaining piece 17 is formed with a piece of plastic, being set into the knotting part 14 so as to allow the knotting part 14 to have a convex surface. A length adjusting unit 18 is set into the knotting part 14, for allowing a wearer to hang the hanging portion 11 thereon and adjust the length thereof. A hanging portion 11 is shorter than a conventional necktie as much as the length of the knotting part plus a portion surrounding the wear's neck, the hanging portion comprising a leading end and a trailing end, both of which are triangular in shape, and forming a trapezoid in shape from the leading end to the trailing end.

[0027] To explain the present necktie with this configuration in more detail, the two strips 12 and 13 constitute a knotting part 14 and a neck surrounding part 15; the strip 12 is sufficiently long as to make a knot and the strip 13 is relatively shorter than the strip 12. To opposite ends of the strips 12 and 13 are respectively attached a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro, which forms a detachable part 16. Two joint portions at which the knotting part 14 and the neck surrounding part 15 meet are sewn, and thereby, the neck surrounding part 15 is firmly secured to the knotting part. A joint portion is divided into an upper pocket and a lower pocket based on the sewing line. The reference numeral 22 denotes a sewing line.

[0028] In order to retain the shape of the knotting part 14, the shape retaining piece 17, being within the range of 5 to 7 mm in width and the range of 0.5 to 1 mm in thickness is, as depicted in FIG. 5, formed with a middle portion having a convex surface, and it is set into the upper inner side of the knotting part 14, thereby allowing the knotting part 14 to remain constant in shape.

[0029] Referring to FIG. 4a, the length adjusting unit 18 is comprised of a main body 19 made of an elastic steel, the surface of which is plated with chrome, or made of plastic, the surface of which is smooth, and insert parts 20a to be inserted into the knotting part 14. The insert parts 20 are formed by downwardly bending each terminal of a predetermined distance from the midpoint of the middle part of the length adjusting unit 18. According to another embodiment of the length adjusting unit 18 shown in FIG. 4b, the insert part 20a is, as depicted in FIG. 4a, formed by bending the terminal of each upward curved part in the shape of a coil. According to still another embodiment of the length adjusting unit 18 shown in FIG. 4c, a small disk is attached to the terminal of each upward curved part of the insert part 20b illustrated in FIG. 4b.

[0030] The hanging portion 11 is hung down from the main body 19 of the length adjusting unit 18 as described above. Relative to the main body 19 of the length adjusting unit 18, the hanging portion 11 is divided into a front part and a rear part. The rear part and the front part of the hanging portion 11 are hung down from the back and front of the length adjusting unit 18, and they are adhered to each other by a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro formed on the back side of the hanging portion 11, thereby preventing the hanging portion 11 from slipping out of the main body 19 of the length adjusting unit 18. The wearer hangs the hanging portion 11 on the length adjusting unit 18 so that the portion 11 is folded into front and rear parts.

[0031] Each of the two portions at which the knotting part 14 and the neck surrounding part 15 meet is horizontally divided into a upper pocket and a lower pocket by a sewing line 22 formed by horizontally sewing a middle part of the meeting portion. The insert parts 20 of the length adjusting unit 18 are inserted into the upper pockets, and the main body 19 of the length adjusting unit 18 is set into the knotting part 14. Thus, the insert part 20 formed on each terminal of the length adjusting unit 18 is inserted into each pocket formed between the knotting part 14 and the neck surrounding part 15, and the main body 19 is set into the knotting part 14, whereby they are firmly combined.

[0032] Relative to the main body 19 of the length adjusting unit 18, the wider part of the hanging portion 11 is hung down forwardly and the narrower part thereof is hung down backward, and they are adhered to each other by the hook part and the pile part of the Velcro formed on the back side of the hanging portion 11.

[0033] The wearer puts on the necktie by means of the Velcro attached to the detachable part 16 formed on the neck surrounding part 15 with the above-described configuration. To adjust the length of the hanging portion 11 according to the wearer's taste and/or height, the hook and pile parts of the Velcro are detached from each other to thereby separate the front hanging portion from the rear hanging portion. The insert parts 20 of the length adjusting unit 18 inserted into the knotting part 14 are inwardly pressed by a thumb and an index finger of a hand, and thereafter, the front hanging portion is pulled forwardly. Thus, the front part of the hanging portion 11 becomes longer than the rear part thereof. Also in this regard, when rear hanging portion is pulled down, then the length of the front hanging portion is shortened.

[0034] If the knotting part 14 and the hanging portion 11 are differently constructed in color and pattern and are combined in a variety of manners, the wearer is likely to put on a variety of neckties having different colors and patterns harmonious with his taste. In this way, an effect of wearing a variety of neckties different in color and pattern can be accomplished.

[0035] The insert parts 20b and 20c of the length adjusting unit 18 are easily held with the thumb and the index finger in order to adjust the length of the hanging portion 11, because one is formed in the shape of a coil and the other is in the shape of a disc.

[0036] As described above, the necktie according to the present invention includes a knotting part and a neck surrounding part formed with two strips, a detachable part with a hook part and a pile part of a Velcro attached to opposite ends of the neck surrounding part, a shape retaining piece set into the upper pocket of the knotting part, having a swollen middle part, and a length adjusting unit supporting the hanging portion within the knotting part. Therefore, there is no need to make a knot of the necktie every time whenever one puts on the necktie. In addition, since the shape retaining piece set into an upper pocket of the knotting part allows the knotting part to make an external curve, the knotting part can always be maintained at a constant shape without deformation, thereby being effective in maintaining the necktie in an attractive shape.

[0037] In order to adjust the length of the hanging portion, the front and back hanging portions adhered to each other by the hook part and the pile part of the Velcro attached to the back side of the hanging portion are first separated. The insert parts 20 of the length adjusting part 18 inserted into the knotting part 14 are inwardly pressed with a thumb and an index finger of a hand and then the front hanging portion is pulled forwardly, thereby making the front hanging portion longer than the rear hanging portion. However, if the rear hanging portion is pulled down, the length of the front hanging portion is shortened. Thus, the necktie according to the present invention is also very effective in adjusting the length of the hanging portion. Further, if the knotting part and the hanging portion are different in color and pattern, this generates an effect of using a variety of neckties available from the combinations of different colors and patterns, thereby being effective in obtaining a larger effective number of neckties with a smaller actual number of neckties.

[0038] Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention has been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying drawings.
