TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This invention relates to a large synthetic resin bottle with a handle, molded by biaxially oriented blow molding, and more particularly to a synthetic resin bottle with a handle, in which separately molded handle and bottle have been firmly fitted to each other.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The so-called insert molding is in wide use as a process for preparing large synthetic resin bottles with a handle, which are configured by fitting the handle to the bottle that is separately molded. In this process, the handle to be fitted is injection-molded to have arms at the upper and lower ends of the grip so that each arm is projected forward from the grip. The arms are provided with a stopper on top of the upper arm tip and under the lower arm tip. The bottle is blow-molded in biaxial orientation, and the handle is fitted to the bottle as the insert material.

[0003] However, a problem has arisen from the prior-art process. Since the parison used is preheated in this process, the transmitted heat tends to raise the temperature of the handle and to deform especially the lower arm, when the arms come in contact with the wall of the parison and a strong blow pressure is applied to the lower arm during the biaxially oriented blow molding. As a result, the fixing engagement between the lower arm and the bottle has been apt to be incomplete.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The object of this invention is to provide a synthetic resin bottle with a handle, wherein the handle is designed to prevent the deformation of its lower fitting arm and to give strong and stable engagement with the bottle when the bottle is prepared in the biaxially oriented blow molding, with the handle being used as the insert material.

[0005] This invention is characterized by a configuration comprising:

[0006] A synthetic resin bottle molded by biaxially oriented blow molding and having a recession in the rear of the body;

[0007] A synthetic resin handle made by injection molding, which is fitted into the afore-mentioned recessed portion of the bottle as the insert material and which is provided with the upper and lower arms extending toward the bottle at respective ends of a longitudinal thick grip;

[0008] A rectangular stopper, which is disposed at the tip of the upper fitting arm so as to rise upward from the tip;

[0009] A reinforcing rib, which is disposed under the lower fitting arm in the direction from arm base to arm tip; and

[0010] A stop claw disposed at the tip of the lower fitting arm and extending downward from the tip so that the bottom of the claw is positioned below the underside of the forefront portion of the reinforcing rib.

[0011] In the biaxially oriented blow molding of a bottle utilizing a separately molded handle as the insert material, a reinforcing rib is provided under the lower fitting arm of the handle, where temperature rises and a strong blowing pressure is applied. This rib prevents the lower fitting arm from being deformed during the blow molding and makes sure that strong fixing engagement is achieved between the tip of lower arm and the bottle wall.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0012] FIG. 1 is a side view showing the upper portion of the bottle in the embodiment of this invention.

[0013] FIG. 2 is a side view of the handle in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1.

[0014] FIG. 3 is a front view of the handle shown in FIG. 2.

[0015] FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken from line A-A of FIG. 2.

[0016] FIG. 5 is an enlarged side view of an important part of the handle shown in FIG. 2.

[0017] FIG. 6 is a bottom view of the handle shown in FIG. 2.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0018] This invention is further described by referring now to the drawings. As shown in FIG. 1, the synthetic resin bottle with a handle, according to this invention, has a configuration comprising a bottle 1, which is a product made of polyethylene terephthalate resin, etc., and blow-molded in biaxial orientation, and a handle 3, which is a product made of polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate resin, etc., by injection molding, wherein the handle 3 is used as the insert material and is attached to the recessed portion 2 in the rear of the body of the bottle 1.

[0019] The handle 3 comprises a grip 4 having two parallel boards connected with a central rib 5 so that the grip 4 roughly shows a H-shape (See FIG. 4) in its cross-section, an upper fitting arm 6 extending forward from the upper end of the grip 4, and a lower fitting arm 8 extending forward from the lower end of the grip 4. At the tip of the upper fitting arm 6 there is provided a rectangular stopper 7, which rises upward from the tip.

[0020] The lower fitting arm 8 is curved upward and is formed in such a way that, as the arm comes close to its forefront, the arm gradually becomes thinner than at its base. The lower fitting arm 8 is provided with a reinforcing rib 9 under the front, central part of the lower arm 8 to prevent the arm from being deformed.

[0021] The reinforcing rib 9 is designed to become gradually wider than at its tip as the rib comes close to the base of the arm. For an arm 12 mm wide, it is preferred that the rib is 4 mm wide at the forefront and 6 mm wide at the base. As regards the thickness, if the lower fitting arm 8 is 2.5 mm thick in the forefront, then it is preferred that the rib is 1.5 mm thick in the forefront.

[0022] A stop claw 10 is integrally disposed at the tip of the lower fitting arm 8. This claw exists outstretched laterally from each side of the lower arm 8. Furthermore, the claw extends downward from the arm tip so that the bottom of the claw is positioned below the underside of the forefront portion of the reinforcing rib 9. The stop claw 10 is rounded at its four corners in its front view, and it has also the round front surface, as seen from its side.

[0023] It is preferred that the bottom of the stop claw 10 is 1 mm below the underside of the forefront portion of the reinforcing rib 9, because blow-molded bottle wall turns around and goes upward from under the stop claw 10 to a height of 1 mm. Preferably, the stop claw 10 is outstretched laterally by a length of 1.5 mm from each side of the lower fitting arm 8.

[0024] In the biaxially oriented blow molding of a bottle utilizing a separately molded handle as the insert material, a reinforcing rib is provided under the lower arm of the handle, where temperature rises and a strong blowing pressure is applied. This rib makes sure that strong fixing engagement is achieved between the tip of the lower arm and the bottle wall. Thus, the handle can be firmly and stably fitted to the bottle.
