Whistling top
A new and improved toy is disclosed. The toy would be analogous to a standard spinning top, but would also have a small whistle hole in the side of the upper section of the top. Once a user would start the top spinning, the whistle hole would cause the top to make a whistling sound.

II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART[0002] U.S. Pat. No. 2,645,881, issued to Frangos, discloses a spinning top.
[0003] U.S. Pat. No. 1,431,604, issued to Stemons, discloses a toy of the whirling type with improved means for producing sound of increased volume as the toy rotates.
[0004] U.S. Pat. No. 522,264, issued to Lumley, discloses a whistling toy which gives out sounds whenever a disk portion of the toy is revolved.
III. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION[0005] The present invention is that of a new and improved toy. The toy of the present invention would be analogous to a standard spinning top, but would also have a small whistle hole in the side of the upper section of the top. Once a user would start the top spinning, the whistle hole would allow the top to make a whistling sound.
[0006] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of a toy in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the toy that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
[0007] In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the toy in detail, it is to be understood that the toy is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The toy is capable of other embodiments and being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of descriptions and should not be regarded as limiting.
[0008] As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present toy. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regard as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
[0009] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a toy which has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
[0010] It is another object of the present invention to provide a toy which may be easily and efficiently manufactured and marketed.

[0012] It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a toy which is economically affordable and available to the buying public.

IV. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS[0015] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the top of the present invention.

V. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT[0017] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the top 2 of the present invention. Top 2 would comprise an upper portion 4 and a pole 8. Pole 8 would have two ends, a first end and a second end. The first end of pole 8 would be connected to upper portion 4, while the second end of pole 8 would culminate in point 9.
[0018] On the surface of upper portion 4 would be located whistle hole 6. Whistle hole 6 would be a small drilled-in indentation which would not go through the entire length of upper portion 4. Rather, whistle hole 6 would travel approximately ½ centimeter to ½ inch into upper portion 4, which would be just enough to allow top 2 to provide a whistling sound while top 2 would be spinning around.
[0019] FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the power bar 10, string 14, and string handle 12 of the present invention. String 14 has two ends, a first end and a second end. The string handle 12 would be attached to the second end of string 14. The power bar 10 has two ends, a first end and a second end. The first end of power bar 10 has hole 16.
[0020] To use the present invention, a user would insert the first end of string 14 through hole 16 on power bar 10. Then, a user would wind string 14 completely around pole 8. After this, a user would grasp string handle 12 and pull hard and fast while pole 8 is standing upright with point 9 located on a hard surface. This action will cause top 2 to rapidly spin, allowing pole 8 and upper portion 4 to remain upright and rapidly rotate. While this is occurring, whistle hole 8 would emit a whistling sound due to the rapid rotation of upper portion 4 on top 2.
Claims
1. A whistling top comprising:
- (a) an upper portion, the upper portion being spherically shaped, the upper portion being approximately one and one-half inches in diameter,
- (b) a pole having two ends, a first end and a second end, the pole being approximately two and one-half to three inches in length, the first end of the pole being connected to the upper portion, the second end of the pole culminating in a point,
- (c) a hole drilled into the upper portion, the hole located approximately ninety degrees away from the point where the first end of the pole connects to the upper portion, the hole having a depth between approximately one-half of a centimeter to one-half of an inch,
- (d) a means for causing the whistling top to rapidly spin around in a circular fashion on the second end of the pole and emit a whistling sound.
2. A whistling top according to claim 1 wherein the means for causing the whistling top to rapidly spin around in a circular fashion on the second end of the pole and emit a whistling sound further comprise:
- (a) a power bar having two ends, a first end and a second end,
- (b) a length of string having two ends, a first end and a second end,
- (c) a string handle attached to the second end of the string,
- (d) a hole located in the first end of the power bar,
- (e) whereby an individual would insert the first end of the string through the hole on the power bar, further whereby the individual would wind the string completely around the pole, and further whereby the individual would grasp the string handle and pull hard and fast while the pole would be standing upright, causing the whistling top to rapidly spin and emit a whistling sound for a short duration of time.
