Abstract

Hook and Loop Head band and associated accessories comprising: a strip of hook type fastening material approximately one half of one inch wide by twenty four inches long, said strip having a loop type fastening material on its reverse side, said strip capable of attaching its ends to itself at any desired circumference, and said strip capable of having attached to it, a variety of ornaments and or hair attachments.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates generally to the field of hair accessories, and more particularly to a hook and Loop head band and associated accessories.

[0002] Head bands for holding a persons hair in place are known. They are generally made of resilient plastic and can often include comb like elements for further helping to hold a persons hair in a desired fashionable orientation. Head bands are generally a C shape and fit over the crown of a persons head so that the ends of the C shape land behind the users ears. These types of head bands tend to exert pressure on the wearers head and therefore can hurt the wearer after a time.

[0003] Other types of head coverings are also known that are in the form of scarves that can be tied around a persons head for decorative and or protective purposes.

[0004] One drawback with existing head bands and other head coverings is that they generally do not allow for easily adding a variety of accessory elements to themselves. Therefore a person can not easily add their own individual style to the head band or scarf. Additionally, most head bands do not allow for a person to easily attach other hair extensions to the head band such as bangs or the like.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The primary object of the invention is To provide a head band that is easy to install and allows the user to easily attach and or remove a variety of accessories to said head band. Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable head band that does not hurt the wearer.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0013] Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.

[0014] Referring now to FIG. 1 we see a perspective view of the head band of the present invention. The head band 4 is wrapped around the wearers head 2 and is able to be cinched tight because of the infinite adjusting ability of the hook 11 and loop 10 construction of the head band 4. The head band 4 of the preferred embodiment shown is approximately one half of one inch wide and approximately twenty four inches long, however, its should be understood that that other embodiments up to two inches wide can be workable for the present invention. Additionally, the edge treatment of the head band strip 4 may, although generally parallel in nature, be wavy or in other ways non linear and still reside in the spirit of the present invention. One side of the head band is comprised of standard hook construction and the opposite side is comprised of standard loop construction such as can be found in Velcro Brand fastening systems. Ideally, the user is encouraged to fasten the head band so that the loop 10 construction is facing outwards after the head band 4 is applied to the users head. Over lapping joint 8 can be seen, however in actual practice this joint 8 is not significantly noticed. The infinitely adjustable connection joint 8 means that the user can install the head band in a snug but comfortable way that will not cause undue stress or pressure on the wearers head. The head band strip can be manufactured in a variety of colors, either to match a persons hair color or to compliment it. One novel and exiting feature of the present invention is that a person can custom accessories the head band by applying a variety of ornamental shapes and or other decorative elements to the outside portion of the head band strip 4. For example, small crystal like heart shapes 6 can be applied as shown in FIG. 1. Each heart shape 6 or diamond shape 60 is attachable be hook type fastening material that is applied to the back side of each accessory shape 6, 60. In a preferred embodiment the head band can be sold with a compliment of accessory ornaments, however the users could also use their own unique by adhering standardly available hook type fastening material to the reverse side of said ornament. FIG. 2 shows a more detailed view of the head band 4 and its hook 11 and loop 10 construction. The hook 11 and loop 10 can be attached to each other in any desired circumference 42. Additionally a second head band 4 can be added to the end of the first head band to create a band capable of a double wrap. Additional bands can be added as well. Ornamental items 30, 32, 34 show just a few of the many possible designs that can be attached to the head band 4 by the hook material 36, 38, 40 adhered to the back of each item. FIG. three shows an additional embodiment of the present invention which I call “Add a Bang”. In this embodiment, rather that fastening a plurality of ornaments onto head band 4, the user can fasten an entire strip of mating hook material 20 that has hair 24, either real or synthetic, attached to the strip 20 making it look like a “bang” which can create the appearance of looking like the users own hair. The outward facing portion of the bang strip 20 has loop type fastening material 23 so that the user can also attach ornamental items 80, 82 to the front of the bang strip 20 as well as attaching ornamental items to the remaining head band 4 as shown in FIG. 1. FIG. 4 shows one more embodiment that can be accomplished with the original head band 4 described above. In this embodiment the head band is wrapped in a spiral pattern so that the edges of the hook material located on one side of the head band 4 touch, and engage the edges of the loop side of the head band material continuously as shown 56, 5, 60 thereby creating a pony tail 52 holder. The user can then decorate the head band strip 4 with ornaments 50 as described in previous embodiments. It should be obvious that shorter versions of the disclosed head band can be designed to wrap around smaller portions of hair such as “pig tails” and the like. It should also be noted that my experiments have shown that the hook portion of the head band in contact with a persons hair can hold onto said persons hair in a secure way thereby enabling the head band to be constructed of only hook type fastening means and no loop type fastening means on the reverse side.

[0015] In the above described and illustrated way, a person can easily and quickly form a secure fitting head band and can easily add or remove a variety of decorative items to the head band to create an endless variety of unique and pleasing hair accessories.

[0016] While the invention has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment, it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to the particular form set forth, but on the contrary, it is intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. Hook and Loop Head band and associated accessories comprising:

a strip of hook type fastening material approximately one half of one inch wide and approximately twenty four inches long;

said strip having a loop type fastening material on its reverse side;

said strip capable of attaching its ends to itself at any desired circumference; and

said strip capable of having attached to it, a variety of ornaments and or hair attachments.

2. Hook and loop head band as claimed in claim 1 wherein said strip can be wrapped upon itself in a spiral fashion so that each edge touches, and attaches to each adjacent edge thereby creating a pony tail holder.

3. Hook and loop head band as claimed in claim 1 wherein said attached hair ornament can include a strip of hair in the shape of a bang that can be added to said head band strip by standard hook fastening means and where the outside of said hair bang strip is covered with said loop fastening material so that additional hair ornaments can be attached to said hair bang strip.

4. Hook and loop head band as claimed in claim 1 wherein said head band strip may be as wide as two inches and whose edges may be wavy or in some other way non linear.
