Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] This invention relates to personal organizers and, more specifically, to a compact personal organizer which may be used as a wallet or which will fit within an existing wallet.

[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Art

[0004] In today's society, people are busier than ever before. Most people, adults as well as children, have numerous appointments, work/school tasks, and personal errands to do every day. Many people are so busy that they forget many of the things (appointments, work/school tasks, errands, etc.) that they need to accomplish during the day. Because of this, many individuals carry personal organizers. Most organizers have a calendar for scheduling appointments and a “to do” list for reminding the individual of task to be performed before the end of a certain time frame (i.e., day, week, month, etc.).

[0005] Organizers come in several different types. For example, there are handheld organizers. Handheld organizers come in many different styles, sizes and shapes. Generally speaking, handheld organizers are multi-ring folders. The folder will be divided into a plurality of different sections such as an address section, a calendar section, a “to do” section, etc. Each of the different sections will hold a plurality of sheets of paper. The sheets of paper will generally have pre-printed information, but some may be blank. The user is able to manually write information into each of the different sections to remind them of things to do.

[0006] Recently, electronic organizers and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) have become popular. These electronic devices allow individuals to store information related to appointments, work related projects, personal tasks, etc. in an electronic medium. Information is entered in one of two ways. One way is by typing the information into the device via a keypad/keyboard. A second manner is by writing the information on a screen of the device. The device generally will have software which will recognize the characters written and enter this information into the device.

[0007] Handheld and electronic organizers are both very useful items, but both have certain drawbacks. Handheld organizers are generally fairly large in size. An individual will generally have to carry it around either by hand or in a briefcase/backpack. The size of these organizers make them inconvenient to carry and use. Electronic organizers are generally smaller in size but they are fairly expensive to buy. Many people cannot afford the price of these types of organizers, especially the newest PDAs that are being sold.

[0008] Therefore, a need existed to provide an improved personal organizer. The improved personal organizer would be compact in size. The improved personal organizer would be small enough to fit in the pocket of a user. The improved personal organizer would be small enough to be inserted into a wallet or could also function as a wallet. The improved personal organizer must also be inexpensive to purchase.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0009] In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved personal organizer.

[0010] It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved personal organizer that is compact in size.

[0011] It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved personal organizer that would be small enough to fit in the pocket of a user.

[0012] It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved personal organizer that would be small enough to be inserted into a wallet or could also function as a wallet.

[0013] It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved personal organizer that would be small enough to be inserted into a wallet or could also function as a wallet and is furthermore inexpensive to make and sell.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0031] Referring to the Figures, a wallet personal organizer 10 (hereinafter organizer 10) is shown. The organizer 10 has a body section 12. The body section 12 is generally rectangular in shape. However, the body section 12 may be of different sizes and/or shapes. However, the body section 12 should be small enough so that when the body section is folded in half, the body section will fit in a clothes pocket of the user. In this manner, the body section 12 is similar to a bi-fold wallet which folds into two sections. The body section 12 may be made out of any type of material. However, a softer material may be more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing for a user the organizer 10. For example, the body section 12 may be made out of cloth, naugahyde, leather, vinyl or the like. The body section 12 is similar to a bi-fold wallet and folds into two sections.

[0032] The body section 12 has a first pocket section 14 and a second pocket section 16. The two pocket sections 14 and 16 are formed by coupling a piece of material to the body section 12. The piece of material is generally the same type of material used in the construction of the body section 12. However, other material may be used. For example, a translucent piece of material may be used so that items placed in the pocket section 14 and/or 16 may be seen.

[0033] The two pocket sections 14 and 16 are used to store items commonly found in a person's wallet. In this manner, the organizer 10 can function as a simple wallet. Currency, credit cards, pictures, etc. may be placed and stored in the two pocket sections 14 and 16.

[0034] At least one of the pocket sections 14 or 16 is used to store personal organizer inserts 18. Several different personal organizer inserts 18 are provided with the organizer 10. As may be seen in FIGS. 6A-9B, the personal organizer inserts 18 may include a “TO DO” list 18A, a debit/check register 18B, a schedule/calendar 18C, and an address book 18D. The FIGS. 6A-9B depict one embodiment of how the personal organizer inserts 18 may appear. However, it should be noted that these are just examples and they should not be seen as to limit the scope of the present invention. Furthermore, additional types of personal organizer inserts 18 may be used other than the ones listed above. The ones listed above should not be seen as to limit the scope of the present invention.

[0035] Each of the different classification of personal organizer inserts 18 (i.e., “TO DO” list 18A, debit/check register 18B, etc.) are of different sizes. This is done so that when a group of personal organizer inserts 18 are placed together, each of the different personal organizer inserts 18 would be layered like a staircase or tabbed sections. This is done so that each of the different personal organizer inserts 18 will stand out from the others. This will allow the user to easily go to a desired personal organizer inserts 18. The arrangement of the personal organizer inserts 18 in a staircase manner can most clearly be seen in FIG. 5.

[0036] The group of personal organizer inserts 18 are placed together so that a back end section of each of the group of personal organizer inserts 18 are placed inside at least one of the two pocket sections 14 or 16. The pocket sections 14 and/or 16 will hold the back end section of each of the group of personal organizer inserts 18 within the body section 12. This is depicted, as shown by the arrows, in FIG. 1. Thus, a compact wallet personal organizer 10 is formed.

[0037] The organizer 10 may further have a writing assembly 20. The writing assembly 20 has a holder mechanism 22 and a writing instrument 24. The writing instrument 24 may be a pen 24A and cap 25 as shown in FIG. 4, a pencil, or any other type of writing instrument. The writing instrument 24 is used for entering information on any of the personal organizer inserts 18. The holder mechanism 22 is used for holding the writing instrument 24. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the holder mechanism 22 is a small piece of material which has a first end and a second end coupled to the body section 12. By coupling the two ends of the material to the body section 12, a small tube is formed. The writing instrument may then be slide in and held by the tube when not in use.

[0038] The organizer 10 may function as a combination wallet and personal organizer as discussed above, or it may be used as a personal organizer insert to an existing wallet. For this reason, a tab 26 is coupled to a back section of the body section 12. The tab 26 extends along the back section of the body section 12. In use, the tab 26 will be inserted into a pocket section 32 of an existing wallet 30 as shown by the arrows in FIG. 1. The pocket 32 will hold the tab 26 and thus the organizer 10 inside the existing wallet 30. The tab 26 is generally made of a semi-rigid material. This will allow the organizer 10 to better stay in place inside the wallet 30.

[0039] While the invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the foregoing and other changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
