UPS in combination with a fan

The UPS has a housing and a casing securely received in the housing to mount a fan assembly that has a fan, two screens mounted on opposite sides of the fan and a mounting board securely engaged with a periphery of the casing to secure the fan assembly to the UPS housing and to isolate the fan assembly from internal components in the UPS.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a UPS in combination with a fan, and more particularly to a UPS with a heat dissipation fan mounted outside the UPS so that maintenance to the fan will not cause any damage to the UPS.

[0003] 2. Description of Related Art

[0004] With the growing number of computer users all over the world, numerous methods have been developed to solve the difficulties in maintaining stable operation of computers. One very efficient and effective way is to use a device called a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). The UPS keeps supplying power to the computer even when there is a power failure from the local electricity facility, such that users of a UPS will have more confidence when using computers. With reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, a conventional UPS has a housing (40) with a fan (50) mounted inside the housing (40). The housing (40) has a window (401) defined to mount the fan (50) and to allow the circulation of air. The fan (50) has screw holes (501) defined in a peripheral face of the fan (50), so that the user is able to mount the fan (50) on a peripheral edge defining the window (401) by means of screws (502) and nuts (504). When the UPS is in operation, the heat generated can be dissipated by the fan (50). However, when the fan (50) is out of order, the user will have to disassemble the entire UPS housing (40) to have access to the fan (50), which easily damages the components of the UPS. Thus, an improvement to the structure of the conventional UPS is necessary.

[0005] To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention intends to provide an improved UPS together with a fan to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The primary objective of the invention is to provide an improved UPS in combination with a fan, wherein the fan is mounted outside the UPS housing, such that when repair to the fan is necessary, the user will no longer need to disassemble the UPS housing to have access to the fan. The user can repair the fan directly without risking damage to the internal components of the UPS.

[0007] Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0013] With reference to FIGS. 1, 1A and 2, the UPS has a housing (20) with a window (not numbered), a casing (10) securely mounted inside the housing (20) at the window and a fan (30) mounted inside the casing (10).

[0014] The housing (20) has multiple screw holes (201) defined in the housing (20) around peripheral edges of the window. The casing (10) has multiple clamps (101) a centrally formed first screen (102) and an electrical outlet (103). The clamps (101) are formed on and extend out from peripheral edges of an open end of the casing (10) such that the casing (10) is able to be securely mounted in the housing. The electrical outlet (103) adapted to be electrically connected with the power source of the UPS.

[0015] The fan (30) has an electrical wire (301), a mounting board (302) and a second screen (305). The electrical wire (301) extends out from the fan (30). The mounting board (302) is securely attached one face of the fan (30). Holes (303) are defined in the mounting board (302) to correspond to the screw holes (201) in the housing (20). The second screen (305) is formed on the face of the fan (30) opposite to the mounting board (302). The mounting board (302) further has a third screen (306) formed on the mounting board (302) to correspond to the second screen (305).

[0016] When the fan (30) and the UPS housing (20) are assembled, the fan (30) is first attached to the mounting board (302). Then the fan (30) is installed inside the casing (10) so the holes (303) on the mounting board (302) align with the screw holes (201) in the UPS housing (20) so bolts (304) are able to secure the engagement between the fan (30) and the housing (20). Thereafter the assembly of the fan (30) to the housing (20) is finished.

[0017] Because the fan (30) is separated from the internal components of the UPS, maintenance to the fan (30) will never damage the UPS.

[0018] It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.

Claims

1. A fan assembly together with a UPS having a housing with a first screen, the fan assembly comprising:

a fan detachably received in a casing that is securely mounted inside the housing;
a second and a third screen provided on opposite faces of the fan;
an electrical wire extended from the fan to be connected with an electrical outlet in the casing; and
a mounting board securely engaged with the fan and having a hole defined to receive the fan;
wherein clamps are provided around the casing to clamp the casing to the housing and screwholes are defined in the housing to correspond to holes in the mounting board, such that bolts are able to secure the engagement between the mounting board with the fan and the housing,
whereby the fan assembly is isolated from internal components in the housing by the casing so that maintenance to the fan assembly will not damage components inside the UPS.
