Abstract

A boxing attachment for a treadmill including a pair of pads that are adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a boxing attachment for a treadmill and more particularly pertains to augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout.

[0002] The use of exercise devices is known in the prior art. More specifically, exercise devices heretofore devised and utilized for the purpose of facilitating exercise are known to consist basically of familiar, expected and obvious structural configurations, notwithstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art that have been developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and requirements.

[0003] By way of example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,569,401 to Luck discloses a stationary bike combined with a punching ball and punching bag within a single framework for multipurpose exercising. U.S. Pat. No. 5,000,440 to Lynch discloses a combined treadmill with an upper body stressing device. U.S. Pat. No. 5,871,421 to Trulaske discloses an arm powered treadmill for exercising both the lower and upper body.

[0004] While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objective and requirements, the aforementioned patents do not describe a boxing attachment for a treadmill for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout.

[0005] In this respect, the boxing attachment for a treadmill according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in doing so provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout.

[0006] Therefore, it can be appreciated that there exists a continuing need for a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that can be used for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout. In this regard, the present invention substantially fulfills this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of exercise devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved boxing attachment for a treadmill. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

[0008] To attain this, the present invention essentially comprises a treadmill having an upright support extending upwardly therefrom. The upright support includes a central horizontal tube. A pair of pads are adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill. The pair of pads have a horizontal support extending therebetween. The horizontal support is rotatably received within a horizontal segment of a T-shaped collar. The T-shaped collar has a vertical segment extending downwardly from the horizontal segment. The vertical segment has a vertical support bar slidably received therein. The vertical support bar has a pair of angular supports extending downwardly therefrom. The angular supports each have a coupling collar disposed on free ends thereof for coupling with the central horizontal tube of the upright support of the treadmill.

[0009] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

[0010] In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

[0011] As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.

[0012] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that has all the advantages of the prior art exercise devices and none of the disadvantages.

[0013] It is another object of the present invention to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that may be easily and efficiently manufactured and marketed.

[0014] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that is of durable and reliable construction.

[0015] An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill that is susceptible of a low cost of manufacture with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the consuming public, thereby making such a boxing attachment for a treadmill economically available to the buying public.

[0016] Even still another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout.

[0017] Lastly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill including a treadmill. A pair of pads are adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0024] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular, to figures one through three thereof, the preferred embodiment of the new and improved boxing attachment for a treadmill embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference number 10 will be described.

[0025] Specifically, it will be noted in the various figures that the device relates to a boxing attachment for a treadmill for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout. In its broadest context, the device consists of a treadmill and a pair of pads. Such components are individually configured and correlated with respect to each other so as to attain the desired objective.

[0026] The treadmill 12 has an upright support 14 extending upwardly therefrom. The upright support 14 includes a central horizontal tube 16. The treadmill 12 resembles those known in the art. Note FIG. 1.

[0027] The pair of pads 18 are adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill 12 for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill 12. The pair of pads 18 have a horizontal support 20 extending therebetween. The horizontal support 20 is rotatably received within a horizontal segment 22 of a T-shaped collar 24. The T-shaped collar 24 has a vertical segment 26 extending downwardly from the horizontal segment 22. The vertical segment 26 has a vertical support bar 28 slidably received therein. The vertical support bar 28 has a pair of angular supports 30 extending downwardly therefrom. The angular supports 30 each have a coupling collar 32 disposed on free ends thereof for coupling with the central horizontal tube 16 of the upright support 14 of the treadmill 12.

[0028] In use, the pair of pads 18 can be adjusted to be properly positioned in front of the person using the treadmill 12. Both the height and angle of the pad's 18 can be adjusted to accommodate different punches. The pads 18 can be folded forwardly toward the person and face the floor for uppercuts. The pads 18 can also be turned inwardly to accommodate a crossing punch. Additionally, the pads 18 can be positioned straight, as in FIG. 1, for straight jab punches.

[0029] As to the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.

[0030] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and the manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Claims

1. A boxing attachment for a treadmill for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout comprising, in combination:

a treadmill having an upright support extending upwardly therefrom, the upright support including a central horizontal tube; and

a pair of pads adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill, the pair of pads having a horizontal support extending therebetween, the horizontal support being rotatably received within a horizontal segment of a T-shaped collar, the T-shaped collar having a vertical segment extending downwardly from the horizontal segment, the vertical segment having a vertical support bar slidably received therein, the vertical support bar having a pair of angular supports extending downwardly therefrom, the angular supports each having a coupling collar disposed on free ends thereof for coupling with the central horizontal tube of the upright support of the treadmill.

2. A boxing attachment for a treadmill for augmenting a treadmill to provide a more thorough cardiovascular workout comprising, in combination:

a treadmill; and

a pair of pads adjustably coupled with respect to the treadmill for being positioned in front of a person using the treadmill.

3. The boxing attachment for a treadmill as set forth in claim two, wherein the treadmill has an upright support extending upwardly therefrom, the upright support including a central horizontal tube for coupling with the pair of pads.

The boxing attachment for a treadmill as set forth in claim two, wherein the pair of pads have a horizontal support extending therebetween, the horizontal support being rotatably received within a horizontal segment of a T-shaped collar, the T-shaped collar having a vertical segment extending downwardly from the horizontal segment, the vertical segment having a vertical support bar slidably received therein, the vertical support bar having a pair of angular supports extending downwardly therefrom, the angular supports each having a coupling collar disposed on free ends thereof for coupling with the treadmill.
