Oil/gasoline mixture identification system
In combination, a gasoline container and identification system for the container, the identification system comprising a label having a plurality of markings thereon, each of the markings indicating a specific oil/gasoline ratio, whereby one may select an individual one of the markings for securement to the container. The system permits one to overcome the problem for many consumers who have a plurality of gasoline containers with different mixtures in each one.
[0001] The present invention relates to a method of identifying oil/gasoline mixtures in containers and to a system of identification.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002] The use of two cycle engines is well known and many consumers or home owners have a plurality of devices which have two cycle engines. Examples include lawn mowers, weed trimmers, brush cutters, chain saws, etc. Each of these devices incorporates a gasoline motor which will have a certain preferred oil/gasoline mixture ratio. Generally, these ratios run from 16:1 to 100:1.
[0003] For many consumers, a problem exist when one must then have a plurality of containers with different mixtures in each one. The identification of the different mixtures is a problem in that normally one mixes a quantity sufficient to last for a relatively long period of time. After the lapse of a month or two, the consumer is no longer certain which container has which mixture therein. To overcome this, some users attempt to mark each container, but generally the markings become obliterated due to the solvent nature of the mixture.
SUMMARY OF THE IVENTION[0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for the identification of different oil/gasoline mixtures.
[0005] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a system for the identification of containers having an oil/gasoline mixture therein.
[0006] According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided, in combination, a gasoline container and identification system for the container, the identification system comprising a label having a plurality of markings thereon, each of said markings indicating a specific oil/gasoline ratio, and means for selecting an individual one of the markings.
[0007] In one aspect of the present invention, there will be provided a system wherein a gasoline container will be provided, at the time of purchase, with a plurality of labels, each label identifying a different ratio for an oil/gasoline mixture. The consumer would then be able to pick the appropriate label and secure it to the container.
[0008] The label itself is preferably formed of a material resistant to oil and gasoline and in a preferred embodiment, is formed of a plastic material. The marking thereon is also resistant to the oil/gasoline mixture. Such markings are known in the art.
[0009] The method of securement to the container may be chosen from among those known in the art. Thus, one could use a mechanical means of attaching each label and to this end, there may be provided suitable attachments such as ties and each label may have an aperture therein whereby the label can be secured to a suitable part of the container such as the handle or spout.
[0010] Alternatively, there may be provided adhesive means for securement—these means must again be resistant to the oil/gasoline mixture.
[0011] As an alternative to the provision of the plurality of labels with the purchase of the container, such a set of labels may also be distributed through retail outlets such that the user may purchase the labels for use with existing containers.
[0012] The method of the present invention resides in the use of the labels to identify oil/gasoline mixtures in a container.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENT[0015] As shown in FIG. 1, there is provided a sheet generally designated by reference numeral 10 and which has a plurality of different individual labels 12, each individual label 12 being detachable from sheet 10. As shown thereon, each label 12 identifies a different oil/gasoline mixture and has an aperture 14 therein for securement to the container. Suitable ties may be used as a mechanical means of attachment.
[0016] It is also being noted that the labels may include, apart from oil/gasoline ratios, the type of gasoline. Other supplemental labels may likewise be provided.
[0017] As may be seen from the above, there is thus provided a container and identification system for the container, or an identification system including a label which has a plurality of markings thereon, each of the markings indicating a specific oil/gasoline ratio. One may select the ratio used for that particular container and secure it thereto.
[0018] It will be understood that the above described embodiment is for purposes of illustration only and that changes or modifications may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Claims
1. In combination, a gasoline container and an identification system for said container, said identification system comprising a label having a plurality of markings thereon, each of said markings indicating a specific oil/gasoline ratio, and means for selecting an individual one of said markings.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said label further includes attachment means for securement to said container.
3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said attachment means comprises adhesive means.
4. The combination of claim 2 wherein said attachment means comprises mechanical attachment means.
5. The combination of claim 1 wherein said identification means comprises a sheet having individual labels thereon, each label being releasably attached by adhesive means.
6. The combination of claim 1 wherein there is provided a sheet of labels, each label being releasably secured to said sheet, each label having an aperture therein to receive a mechanical attachment.
