Surfboard simulating exerciser having handle device

A surfboard simulating exerciser includes a surfboard, a device for moving the surfboard in a surfboard exercising movement, and a handle device for actuating the surfboard in the surfboard exercising movement. The surfboard has a front portion slidably supported on a track, and a rear portion moved in a cycling action with a crank. A weight or a flywheel may be coupled to the crank for applying a resistive force against the crank. The handle device includes a lower portion pivotally secured to a base, and a link coupled between the handle device and the crank.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a surfboard, and more particularly to a surfboard simulating exerciser having a handle device for facilitating the surfboard exercises.

[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Art

[0004] Typical surfboard simulating exercisers comprise a surfboard for supporting the user, and a moving device disposed below the surfboard for waving or moving or actuating the surfboard. U.S. Pat. No. 4,749,180 to Boomer, and U.S. Pat. No. 5,904,636 to Chen disclose two of the typical surfboard simulating exercisers. However, the typical surfboard simulating exercisers have no handle devices provided thereon such that the new exercisers may not easily operate the typical surfboard simulating exercisers. In addition, the typical surfboard simulating exercisers have no driving mechanisms or devices for driving or actuating or mobilizing the typical surfboard simulating exercisers, such that the users have to wave or to mobilize or to actuate the typical surfboard simulating exercisers with their own weight or movement.

[0005] The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional surfboard simulating exercisers.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a surfboard simulating exerciser having a handle device for facilitating the operation of the surfboard simulating exerciser and for actuating or mobilizing the surfboard simulating exerciser.

[0007] In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided a surfboard simulating exerciser comprising a surfboard, means for moving the surfboard in a surfboard exercising movement, and handle means for actuating or moving or mobilizing the surfboard in the surfboard exercising movement.

[0008] The surfboard includes a first end, the moving means includes means for rotating the first end of the surfboard in a cycling action. The rotating means includes such as a crank for rotating the first end of the surfboard in the cycling action.

[0009] A base is further provided for rotatably supporting the crank, a flywheel rotatably supported on the base, and means for coupling the crank to the flywheel, such that the flywheel may apply a resistive force against the rotational movement of the crank.

[0010] The surfboard includes a second end, the base includes a track provided thereon for slidably supporting the second end of the surfboard.

[0011] A lever is further provided for supporting the surfboard, the lever includes a first end pivotally coupled to the crank. The lever includes an extension, and means for adjustably securing the extension to the lever.

[0012] The actuating handle means includes a crank for moving the surfboard in the surfboard exercising movement, and a handle device coupled to the crank for actuating or rotating the crank in the cycling action, and for moving the surfboard in the surfboard exercising movement. The handle device includes a lower portion pivotally secured to the base, and a link coupled between the handle device and the crank.

[0013] The handle device includes a tube having a lower portion pivotally secured to the base and having an upper portion, and a bar adjustably secured in the upper portion of the tube.

[0014] Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of a detailed description provided hereinbelow, with appropriate reference to accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0018] Referring to the drawings, and initially to FIGS. 1-3, a surfboard simulating exerciser in accordance with the present invention comprises a base 10 including a longitudinal track 11 disposed or provided on one end thereof, such as disposed on the front portion thereof and extended along the longitudinal axis or direction of the base 10. The base 10 includes two studs 12, 13 extended upward from the rear portion thereof. A sprocket 31 has a spindle 310 rotatably supported on the stud 12, and two cranks 311, 312 are secured to the spindle 310 for rotating or driving the sprocket 31 when the cranks 311, 312 are rotated or cycled by the users. A weight or a flywheel 32 and another sprocket 34 are secured together and rotatably secured on the stud 13 with a shaft 37, and are rotatable relative to the base 10 with the shaft 37 in concert with each other. A chain 33 is engaged over the sprockets 31, 34 for allowing the flywheel 32 to be rotated or driven by the cranks 311, 312.

[0019] A lever 21 includes a foot support or a surfboard 22 disposed thereon, such as disposed on the front portion thereof, and includes a pair of ears 23 extended downward from the front portion thereof for rotatably securing or attaching with a roller or a wheel 24 which is rotatably or slidably engaged on the track 11. The wheel 24 includes two side stops 241 extended radially outward therefrom and engaged with the track 11 for guiding the wheel 24 to move along the track 11 and for preventing the wheel 24 from being disengaged from the track 11. The lever 21 includes a rear end pivotally or rotatably secured to the crank 311 with a pivot pin 29, such that the rear portions of the lever 21 and the surfboard 22 may be moved or cycled by the crank 311, and such that the front portion of the surfboard 22 may be moved along the track 11 in a reciprocating action. The lever 21 may include a one-integral-piece structure, or may include an extension 27 adjustably secured therein and adjustably secured thereto with a fastener 28 or the like, for allowing the extension 27 to be adjusted relative to the lever 21, and for adjusting the surfboard 22 relative to the cranks 311, 312.

[0020] A handle device 40 includes a tube 42 having a lower portion pivotally secured to the base 10 with a pivot axle 47, and a bar 43 having a lower portion slidably engaged in the tube 42 and adjustably secured to the tube 42 with a fastener 432. The bar 43 includes a handle 48 provided thereon and includes a number of holes 431 formed therein for engaging with the fastener 432 and for adjustably securing the bar 43 to the tube 42. A link 41 is pivotally coupled between the tube 42 and the other crank 312, such that the sprockets 31, 34 and the flywheel 32 may be rotated or driven by the handle device 40 via the link 41 and the cranks 311, 312.

[0021] In operation, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the user may stand or may be supported on the surfboard 22, and may pull or push or actuate or rotate the handle 48 relative to the base 10 about the pivot axle 47, in order to rotate or to cycle the sprocket 31 and the cranks 311. 312, and in order to move the rear portion of the lever 21 in the circular path around the spindle 310, and in order to move the front portion of the surfboard 22 along the track 11 in the reciprocating action. The surfboard 22 may thus be moved in a surfboard simulating or exercising movement.

[0022] When or after the user has been experienced to work on or to use the surfboard simulating exerciser, the user may remove the bar 43 and the handle 48, and may operate the surfboard simulating exerciser without the handle 48. It is to be noted that the users may also actuate or operate the surfboard simulating exerciser without disengaging or removing the bar 43 and the handle 48 from the base 10. The provision of the flywheel 32 may apply a resistance force against the movement of the cranks 311, 312 and thus the surfboard 22.

[0023] It is further to be noted that the sprockets 31, 34 and the chain 33 may also be replaced with the gear transmission device, or with a pulley-and-belt transmission device, or the other transmission devices. The foot support or the surfboard 22 may also be actuated or operated with the actuating mechanisms or devices as disclosed or taught by U.S. Pat. No. 4,749,180 to Boomer, and U.S. Pat. No. 5,904,636 to Chen, or with the other actuating mechanisms.

[0024] Accordingly, the surfboard simulating exerciser in accordance with the present invention includes a handle device for facilitating the operation of the surfboard simulating exerciser. The surfboard simulating exerciser may also be operated or mobilized without the handle device.

[0025] Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

Claims

1. A surfboard simulating exerciser comprising:

a surfboard,
means for moving said surfboard in a surfboard exercising movement, and
means for actuating said surfboard in said surfboard exercising movement.

2. A surfboard simulating exerciser comprising:

a surfboard,
means for moving said surfboard in a surfboard exercising movement, and
handle means for actuating said surfboard in said surfboard exercising movement.

3. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 2, wherein said surfboard includes a first end, said moving means includes means for rotating said first end of said surfboard in a cycling action.

4. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 3, wherein said rotating means includes a crank for rotating said first end of said surfboard in the cycling action.

5. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 4 further comprising a base for rotatably supporting said crank, a flywheel rotatably supported on said base, and means for coupling said crank to said flywheel.

6. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 5, wherein said surfboard includes a second end, said base includes a track provided thereon for slidably supporting said second end of said surfboard.

7. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 4 further comprising a lever for supporting said surfboard, said lever including a first end pivotally coupled to said crank.

8. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 7, wherein said lever includes an extension, and means for adjustably securing said extension to said lever.

9. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 7 further comprising a base for rotatably supporting said crank, a lever including a first end pivotally coupled to said crank and including a second end for supporting said surfboard, and said base including a track for slidably supporting said second end of said lever.

10. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 2, wherein said actuating handle means includes a crank for moving said surfboard in said surfboard exercising movement, and a handle device coupled to said crank for actuate said crank to move said surfboard.

11. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 10 further comprising a base, said handle device including a lower portion pivotally secured to said base, and a link coupled between said handle device and said crank.

12. The surfboard simulating exerciser according to claim 11, wherein said handle device includes a tube having a lower portion pivotally secured to said base and having an upper portion, and a bar adjustably secured in said upper portion of said tube.
