Abstract

A decorative device for furniture includes a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening. A handle assembly for furniture includes a handle and a decorative device. The decorative device includes a panel on which the handle is mounted and a backing laminated with the panel. The panel defines at least one opening so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

Description

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to decoration for furniture.

[0003] 2. Related Prior Art

[0004] Furniture provides functions for facilitating our daily life. However, furniture is not only equipped with functional elements for practical purposes but also equipped with decorative elements for aesthetic purposes.

[0005] FIGS. 16 and 17 shows two conventional decorative elements 1 and 2 for example. The decorative elements 1 and 2 are both made with adequate thickness so that some recesses 3 and 4 can be defined therein, respectively. The recesses 3 and 4 are painted with colors different from that of the remaining portion of the decorative elements 1 and 2, respective. However, the definition of the recesses 3 and 4 respectively in the decorative elements 1 and 3 is troublesome. The painting of the recesses 3 and 4 is both laborious and time-consuming.

[0006] The present invention is therefore intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0007] It is the primary objective of the present invention to provide a decorative device that can be mounted on furniture easily.

[0008] According to the present invention, a decorative device for furniture includes a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

[0009] In an aspect, a handle assembly for furniture includes a handle and a decorative device. The decorative device includes a panel on which the handle is mounted and a backing laminated with the panel. The panel defines at least one opening so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

[0029] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a piece of furniture, i.e., a cabinet decorated with some decorative devices 10, 20 and 30 according to the present invention. The cabinet includes two doors on each of which a decorative device 10 is mounted, a big drawer on which two decorative devices 20 are mounted and two small drawers on each of which two decorative devices 30 are mounted.

[0030] Referring to FIG. 2, the decorative device 10 includes a panel 11 and a backing 12. The profile of the panel 11 is similar to that of the backing 12. The panel 11 defines two openings 13. When the panel 11 and the backing 12 are laminated, portions of the backing 12 can be observed through the openings 13. The panel 11 defines a polygonal aperture 14. The backing 12 defines a polygonal aperture 15 corresponding to the polygonal aperture 14. A knob 16 includes a polygonal end 17 corresponding to the polygonal apertures 14 and 15. The polygonal end 17 can be inserted through the polygonal apertures 14 and 15 for attachment to one of the doors shown in FIG. 1. Thus, the panel 11 and the backing 12 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 3, the profile of the panel 11 may be no smaller than that of the backing 12. Thus, the profile of the backing 12 is not exposed from that of the panel 11. Referring to FIG. 4, the profile of the panel 11 may be smaller than that of the backing 12. Thus, the profile of the backing 12 is exposed from that of the panel 11.

[0031] Referring to FIG. 5, the decorative device 20 includes a panel 21 and a backing 22. The profile of the panel 21 is similar to that of the backing 22. The panel 21 defines at least one opening 23. When the panel 21 and the backing 22 are laminated, at least one portion of the backing 22 can be observed through the at least one opening 23. The backing 22 defines two apertures 25. A handle 26 is pivotally mounted on a front side of the panel 21. Two pins 27 are formed on a rear side of the panel 21. The pins 27 can be inserted through the apertures 25 for attachment to the big drawer shown in FIG. 1. Thus, the panel 21 and the backing 22 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 6, the profile of the panel 21 may be no smaller than that of the backing 22. Thus, the profile of the backing 22 is not exposed from that of the panel 21. Referring to FIG. 7, the profile of the panel 21 may be smaller than that of the backing 22. Thus, the profile of the backing 22 is exposed from that of the panel 21.

[0032] Referring to FIG. 8, the decorative device 30 includes a panel 31 and a backing 32. The profile of the panel 31 is similar to that of the backing 32. The panel 31 defines a plurality of openings 33. When the panel 31 and the backing 32 are laminated, a plurality of portions of the backing 32 can be observed through the openings 33. The backing 32 defines an aperture 35. A handle 36 includes two ends each pivotally mounted on a front side of the panel 31. A pin 37 is formed on a rear side of the panel 31. The pins 37 can be inserted through the aperture 35 for attachment to one of the small drawers shown in FIG. 1. Thus, the panel 31 and the backing 32 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 9, the profile of the panel 31 may be no smaller than that of the backing 32. Thus, the profile of the backing 32 is not exposed from that of the panel 31. Referring to FIG. 10, the profile of the panel 31 may be smaller than that of the backing 32. Thus, the profile of the backing 32 is exposed from that of the panel 31.

[0033] Referring to FIGS. 11 and 12, according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention, a decorative device 40 includes a panel 41 and a backing 42. The panel 41 is shaped like a dome. The backing 42 extends in a plane. The profile of the panel 41 is similar to that of the backing 42. The panel 41 defines a plurality of openings 43. Each of the openings 43 may be in the form of a slit. When the panel 41 and the backing 42 are laminated, a plurality of portions of the backing 42 can be observed through the openings 43. The backing 42 defines an aperture 45. The decorative device 40 can be mounted on a tubular handle 46. A bolt 47 extending from the panel 41 can be inserted through the aperture 45 into the tubular handle 46. The tubular handle 46 includes an internal face on which a thread 48 is formed. The bolt 47 includes a thread 49 for engagement with the thread 48.

[0034] Referring to FIGS. 13-15, according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention, a decorative device 50 includes a panel 51 and a backing 52. The panel 51 and the backing 52 are both shaped like a dome. The profile of the panel 51 is similar to that of the backing 52. The panel 51 defines a plurality of openings 53. Each of the openings 53 may be in the form of a slit. When the panel 51 and the backing 52 are laminated, a plurality of portions of the backing 52 can be observed through the openings 53. The backing 52 defines an aperture 55. The decorative device 50 can be mounted on a tubular handle 56. A bolt 57 extending from the panel 51 can be inserted through the aperture 55 into the tubular handle 56. The tubular handle 56 includes an internal face on which a thread 58 is formed. The bolt 57 includes a thread 59 for engagement with the thread 58.

The applicant gives these embodiments only as examples, and those skilled in the art can derive variations from the embodiments after a study of this specification. Therefore, these embodiments shall not limit the scope of the present invention that is defined in the following claims.

Claims

1. A decorative device for furniture including:

a panel defining at least one opening; and

a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

2. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel is no smaller than the backing so that a profile of the backing is not exposed from that of the panel.

3. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel is smaller than the backing so that a profile of the backing is exposed from that of the panel.

4. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel defines an aperture, and the backing defines an aperture corresponding to the aperture defined in the panel, the decorative device includes a pin for insertion through the apertures for aligning the panel with the backing.

5. The decorative device according to claim 4 wherein the apertures and the pin all include a polygonal profile.

6. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel defines two apertures, and the backing defines two apertures corresponding to the apertures defined in the panel, the decorative device includes two pins for insertion through the polygonal apertures for aligning the panel with the backing.

7. A handle assembly for furniture including a handle and a decorative device including:

a panel including a side on which the handle is mounted and at least one opening defined therein; and

a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

8. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein the panel includes two pins formed an opposite side, and the backing defines two apertures for receiving the pins.

9. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein the handle is pivotally mounted on the panel.

10. A handle assembly for furniture including a handle with two ends and two decorative devices each including:

a panel including a side on which one of the ends of the handle is mounted and at least one opening defined therein; and

a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

11. The handle assembly according to claim 10 wherein the panel includes a pin formed an opposite side, and the backing defines an aperture for receiving the pins.

12. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein each of the ends of the handle is pivotally mounted on the panel of one of the decorative devices.

13. A knob assembly for furniture including a handle and a decorative device attached to the handle and including a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.

14. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the panel is shaped like a dome.

15. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the backing extends in a plane.

16. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the backing is shaped like a dome.

17. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the at least one opening is in the form of a slit.

18. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the panel includes a bolt extending from a side thereof, and the backing defines an aperture for receiving the bolt, and the knob is tubular for receiving the bolt.

19. The knob assembly according to claim 18 wherein the tubular handle includes a thread formed on an internal face thereof, and the bolt includes a thread for engagement with the thread of the tubular handle.
