Toilet seat plug in/out attachment

Abstract

The purpose of the invention is to allow easy and thorough cleaning of the toilet seat and top of toilet seat bowl conveniently and quickly by using a method and equipment other than the conventional screw and nut which holds the toilet seat to the toilet bowl. The invention which uses an easily detachable attachment device for the toilet seat allows for such convenient and quick cleaning of both the toilet seat and bowl.

Description

SPECIFICATION

[0001] This invention relates to a use of a plug and plug receptacle for attaching a toilet seat (and toilet seat cover) to the toilet bowl via the existing standard size holes and hole spacing on the commonly used toilets and toilet seats. The most common devices for attaching the toilet seat to the toilet bowl consists of set screws and nuts. My invention replaces the set screw with a plug and the nut with a plug receptacle. The plug/receptacle is broadly illustrated on FIG. 1 attached. The plug consists of a plug portion of approx. 2″ in length and ¼″ in diameter with a number of knobs on the plug shaft. The top of the plug has a plug head. Beneath the plug head is set screw portion of the plug shaft to facilitate a shallow depth nut to allow the plug to be firmly attached to the toilet seat. At the top of the plug receptacle part there is also a shallow depth nut which is used to firmly attach the plug receptacle to the toilet bowl. This nut has a screwed shaft (with centre hole) attached to it and it is screwed onto the plug receptacle. The plug receptacle will have a center hollow shaft to accommodate the plug shaft in a tight fit arrangement

[0002] Usage: The toilet seat is attached to the toilet bowl by plugging in the plug shaft portion to the plug receptacle. When one wants to remove the toilet seat for cleaning and for other purposes, then all that has to be done is to PLUG OUT the toilet seat and perform the necessary cleaning or other and then replace the toilet seat by plugging it back onto the toilet seat bowl via the plug receptacle. There will be two plug receptacles on each toilet bowl and correspondingly two toilet seat plugs on each toilet seat. This method described above does away with the arduous task of unscrewing the commonly used nut/set screw arrangement for attaching the toilet seat to the toilet bowl, for the purpose of cleanings or for other purposes.

[0003] The toilet seat plug is shown on FIG. 1 with knobs spaced apart on its shaft. These are to facilitate a firm grip inside the plug receptacle for steadying the toilet seat when in use and yet to allow the toilet seat to be easily removed by simply plugging it out. The shaft/knob design of the toilet seat plug could be replaced for using a tapered straight shaft shrink fit arrangement with the plug receptacle and achieve the same firmness result. Thus my invention is not dependent on the type of plug shaft being used but rather on the concept of plug—plug receptacle arrangement. Likewise the plug and plug receptacle can be each firmly attached to the toilet seat and toilet bowl, respectively, via other means than use of nuts as described above. The material used for the plug and plug receptacle can be made of many materials such as, wood, steel, or more typically a byproduct of petroleum as plastic.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0008] This invention relates to a use of a plug and plug receptacle (FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 on Drawing Sheet no. 1 and FIGS. 3 to 7 on Drawing Sheet no. 2 respectively) for attaching a commonly used toilet seat (and toilet seat cover) to the toilet bowl via the existing standard size holes and hole spacing on the commonly used toilets. The most common conventional devices for attaching the toilet seat to the toilet bowl consist of 2 screws and 2 nuts. My invention replaces each screw with a plug and each nut with a plug receptacle. The plug/receptacle is broadly illustrated on Drawing Sheet 1 FIGS. 1 and 2 and on Drawing Sheet 2 FIGS. 3 to 7 attached. The plug consists of a plug portion of approx. 2″ in length and ¼″ in diameter FIG. 1 on Drawing Sheet 1 and FIG. 6 on Drawing Sheet 2. The top of the plug has a plug head. Beneath the plug head is screwed portion of the plug shaft to facilitate a shallow depth nut FIG. 7 on Drawing Sheet 2 to allow the plug to be firmly attached to the toilet seat. At the top of the plug receptacle FIG. 2 on Drawing Sheet no. 1 and FIG. 3 on Drawing Sheet 2 there is also a shallow depth nut FIG. 5 on Drawing Sheet 2 which is used to firmly attach the plug receptacle to the toilet bowl. This nut is screwed onto the plug receptacle to firmly attach it to the toilet bowl. The plug receptacle will have a center hollow shaft to accommodate the plug in a tight friction fit arrangement.

1. I claim that my invention is the substitution of the conventional screw and nut to hold a toilet seat to the toilet bowl, with a convenient and quick detachable device as shown on the accompanying drawings and as described above.
