Williams triceps bench

An apparatus for isolating and exercising the triceps muscle and the inner pectorals by using free weights. The apparatus places the body in the safest position possible for performing these exercises and can be adjusted to accommodate a variety of weightlifting bars and most sizes of weightlifter. The apparatus can also be adjusted to allow the exerciser to perform the lying bench press.

[0005] In an effort to improve one's general health and physical appearance, people may exercise regularly. One primary area of aesthetic concern is a person's arm. The arm is made of many muscle structures. The upper arm consists, generally speaking, of the bicep muscle and the triceps muscle. With regard to exercise, it is well known that the use of free weights is the best way to build muscle mass and improve the general appearance of these muscles.

[0006] Of the numerous exercise machines on the market that isolate the triceps and the inner pectorals, none allows for the use of free weights. Those machines usually employ a standard pulley type system and the weight is part of the machine. The Williams Triceps Bench bridges the gap between isolation machines and mass building free weights. The Williams Triceps Bench places the user in a position that isolates the triceps and the inner pectorals. By placing an “S” bar on the arms of the bench and adding the proper amount of weight, the user can perform free weight exercises in an isolated position.

[0007] Additionally, the Williams Triceps Bench adds another dimension of safety to the free weight exercise. The French Press, also called the “Skull Crusher”, is most often performed on any flat surface. The Williams Triceps Bench provides a safe venue for performing the French Press. The arms of the Williams Triceps Bench are positioned in such a manner as to allow the user to quickly and easily place the “S” bar on the arms of the Williams Triceps Bench once the user reaches muscle fatigue.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] The Williams Triceps Bench is a mechanism designed to isolate the Triceps and the Inner Pectorals during weightlifting exercise. The Williams Triceps Bench is different from other exercise machines on the market in that the Williams Triceps Bench does not employ a pulley based weight plate system. The Pulley based weight lifting systems do not allow for a full range of motion nor do they encourage the muscle growth associated with free weight use. The Williams Triceps Bench allows the exerciser to use a standard “S” bar and free weight plates.

[0009] The object of this invention is to allow the user to perform exercises for the triceps and the inner pectorals that will increase lean muscle mass in these areas. Well-formed triceps and strong inner pectorals increase the overall physical attractiveness of men and women. The Williams Triceps Bench allows the user to perform such exercises safely and comfortably.

[0010] In summary, the William Triceps Bench offers the following advantages:

[0011] 1. Provides lifting base for a lying triceps press and a close grip bench press

[0012] 2. Places the body in the proper physical position for safely training the triceps and inner chest

[0013] 3. Provides extended support for the back, head, and neck while facilitating the lying triceps press and/or the close grip bench press

[0014] 4. The upright weight supports are adjustable from 27 inches to 48 inches to accommodate a variety of weightlifting bars

[0015] 5. The upright weight supports are horizontally adjustable to allow for varying width of bench presses

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0019] The Williams Triceps Bench is made of the following:

[0020] 1. Steel square tubing (2×2)

[0021] 2. Steel Tubing (1×3/2) that fits inside the 2×2 steel square tubing

[0022] 3. Standard, release and spring back, pop pins (P185 Kamenay America)

[0023] 4. Upright pin (P110 Kamenway America)

[0024] 5. Upright weight support, which hold the barbell, with 10 holes drilled at 1 inch intervals

[0025] 6. Center base made of steel tubing

[0026] 7. Base left made of steel tubing

[0027] 8. Base right made of steel tubing

[0028] 9. Plywood board, 1 inch thick, 11 inches wide and 62 inches long, covered with foam cushion and vinyl upholstery

[0029] The Williams Triceps Bench should be constructed in accordance with the following:

[0030] The Base Left and the Base Right, both made of steel square tubing, are attached to the center beam, also made of steel square tubing, by welding the pieces together to create a cross. Support beams, made of steel square tubing, are then welded on the left and right side of the “cross” creating a 45 degree angle on each side. See FIG. 3.

[0031] An upright weight support, made of square steel tubing, is placed on the left side and the rights side. The upper weight supports are attached to the support base by a standard release spring pop pin. This will allow for horizontal adjustment of the weight supports to accommodate a variety of weightlifting bars. See FIG. 2.

[0032] Support arms, made of steel and designed to hold the weightlifting bar when not in use, are then inserted into the left support are and the right support arm. The support arms can be adjusted to accommodate a variety of heights and are held in place by standard upright pins. See FIG. 2. The Plywood board, 11 inches wide and 62 inches long, is then attached by using screws and washers down the center of the board. The board is covered with foam cushion and vinyl. See FIG. 3. The Williams Triceps Bench may not take any alternative form.

Claims

1. The Benches ability to allow a weightlifter to isolate the triceps muscle and use free weights while having the body placed in the safest position possible while performing the Lying Triceps Press and the close grip bench press.

2. The combination of widths to which one machine can be adjusted to accommodate a variety of weightlifting bars and most sizes of weightlifter.

3. The machine's capability of being used to perform the lying triceps press and the close grip bench press and its capability to be adjusted to be used for the lying bench press.
