BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This invention relates to the field jewelry, and more particularly, to multifunctional jewelry suited to a variety of esthetic requirements.

[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art

[0004] The jewelry industry, whether referring to expensive, fine jewelry, or less expensive costume jewelry, continually searches for innovative solutions and appealing features to distinguish one product line from another. Conventional jewelry typically is suited for use with a particular wardrobe or a particular type of occasion, whether formal or casual. For example, while an item of jewelry, such as a necklace, may be appropriate for a formal occasion, the same necklace may not be suitable for a casual occasion. The same often holds true in the reverse situation.

[0005] As mentioned, consumers not only purchase jewelry items suited for a particular occasion, but also purchase jewelry to coincide with a wardrobe. In particular, jewelry can be purchased to coincide with accessories, an outfit, or some other aspect of a person's wardrobe.

[0006] In consequence, consumers often purchase several different varieties of the same jewelry items to better coincide with esthetic requirements of different occasions and the consumer's particular wardrobe selections. Such redundant purchasing can cost consumers significant amounts of both time and money.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] The invention provides a multi-functional jewelry apparatus. The invention can include a variety of multi-functional constituent parts which can serve as pieces of jewelry (or costume jewelry) independent of one another and the larger whole. More specifically, the invention can be a ring-like structure which can be worn as a ring. The constituent parts of the ring-like structure can be multi-functional allowing consumers to vary the arrangement, appearance, and layout of the overall ring, as well as detach and use different constituent parts independently of one another as separate items of jewelry. Accordingly, from the single ring-like structure, multiple arrangements, appearances, layouts, and pieces of jewelry can be provided. For example, the invention can provide a ring, a pendant, and optionally, one or more earrings from the single ring-like structure.

[0008] One object of the invention can include providing a single jewel which can be adapted to suit various occasions. For example, the look of the ring can be changed according to esthetic necessity such as matching the jewel with particular articles of clothing, or matching the ring with a more precious pendant. Thus, in accordance with the inventive arrangements disclosed herein, the ring can be worn to fulfill functions and uses different from its original purpose, and then can be reset to its original form.

[0009] Another object of the invention is to allow the owner to change arrangements, uses, and layouts of the jewelry in an extremely easy-to-use manner. Accordingly, the invention can provide a practical, ingenious, easy, and favorable solution.

[0010] One aspect of the present invention can include a jewelry apparatus which can include a ringed structure, specifically a ring, which can be worn on a finger. This structure, referred to as the hull, can be matched and fastened to another part of the ring, the head. This configuration of the invention generally provides a ring structure having two distinctive components joined together, wherein the ring head structure, for example, can be detached from the ring hull to be used separately as a pendant. Notably, the ring head can be hollow for storing a small chain suitable for hanging the pendent. Accordingly, within a single object, the invention can provide two kinds of rings and a pendant for use in various settings. Moreover, the chain stored within the ring head can be worn with or without the pendant.

[0011] Another embodiment of the invention can include configuring the ring head to store one or more earrings. The earrings can be fastened in any suitable way. Preferably, however, the earrings can be fastened external to the ring head structure. For example, the earrings can be fastened using holdfasts. The holdfasts can take advantage of elastic warping properties of materials typically used for construction of earrings. Hence, the accessories can match with the full ring, or with the different constituent parts of the ring when the ring head structure is removed from the finger.

[0012] The hull and the head of the ring can be firmly, but detachably, coupled in any of a variety of suitable ways. Though the invention is not limited to using a particular mechanism for coupling the head to the hull, the two components can be coupled using an automatic release mechanism, screwing action, pressure action, or matching male to female parts.

[0013] Preferably, the ring hull part includes a radial pin stem extending from an outer surface of the ring hull. The radial pin stem can be received by a matching female element of the ring head. The radial pin stem can include two opposite slots of suitable length and depth located substantially orthogonal to the radial pin axis. Decorative elements, such as one or more ornamental stones can be included on the top of the pin, that is the side opposite the pin surface connected to the ring hull. Notably, this configuration can be used as a ring.

[0014] The ring head can be box-shaped, and while having a container connotation and function, can be opened at least on one side in any suitable way. The ring head can include a hole or receptacle which can be complementary to the pin of the hull to firmly fit the male pin in the receptacle. Notably, the box shaped container structure of the ring head can include an area which can be decorated. The container can be closed using the cap which can be hinged to the ring head piece. Furthermore, the box shaped container structure of the ring head can include an internal rim and a stop spring element made of suitable elastic warping material such as harmonic steel. The stop spring element can run along the internal rim and split into two symmetrical opposing branches. The opposing branches can wedge themselves into two opposing grooves. The branches can be located opposite one another on the edges of a bulge coaxial to the female opening of the cap of the ring head. Though the bulge can have a closed top portion, the top of the bulge of the cap can be open thereby allowing the top of the radial pin to pass through. The fastening system between the hull structure and the ring head can operate such that when the pin is passed through the opening of the ring head, the two free branches of the stop spring element engage the corresponding slots on the stem of the pin.

[0015] The box shaped ring head preferably includes a ring-like part placed in a complementary way on the cap element. The ring-like part can form a kind of “O” ring for the box shaped ring head when put on top of the stop spring element. Accordingly, the ring-like part can cover the opposing branches thereby preventing the branches from being exposed and offering the branches a degree of protection. The cap part of the ring head container can be closed in any suitable way, preferably by an automatic release. For example, an elastic warping tongue set in a tangential way with respect to the cap piece can be used. The tongue can block the internal edge of the container ring head assuring a click system fastening the cap to the container ring head structure.

[0016] The ring head part can be easily slipped off from the hull structure by manually rotating the ring head approximately a quarter turn. In doing so, the branches of the stop spring can be released from the slots on the pin stem of the ring hull structure. An object such as a small chain, a ribbon, a string, or the like, appropriate for hanging pendants or similar articles, can be stored inside the container of the ring head part. For example, the chain can be folded or coiled within the box-shaped ring head.

[0017] The ring head can include a looped tip-up element, referred to as a “biglierina”, hinged onto the edge of the container. The chain (or other similar element), which can be stored within the ring head container, can be threaded through the loop tip-up element. When unattached to the hull structure, the ring head can be used independently as a pendant or a necklace. Regardless of how the ring head is worn, it can be hung on a chain or similar object using the looped piece.

[0018] The ring head part can be designed to store one or more earrings, preferably having a ring-like shape. In that case, the outside surface of the ring head container can be grooved to properly fit the earrings. These accessories can be placed coaxially one on top of the other on the grooved surface fastened by pressure holdfasts. The invention, however, is not limited to the precise embodiments disclosed herein. In consequence, earrings can be attached to the ring head using any suitable method or element.

[0019] The ring hull and the ring head can be realized in any kind of suitable material, preferably one or more precious metals, with any kind of style and cutting. For instance, the ring head can be spherical, cubic, cylindrical, discoid, or any other geometrical shape. Non-geometric shapes also can be used. Moreover, the ring hull and ring head can be adorned with any kind of finishing, including but not limited to, ornamental stones, decorative inscriptions, chromatic effects, and the like.

[0020] The invention can provide an entire collection of ring head pieces. The ring head pieces can be designed and realized for use with the same hull part. Having one or more ring head pieces suitable for use with a single ring hull can provide the owner with a wide range of options according to the owner's various esthetic requirements. In this manner, the look of the ring and the style of its multiple accessories can be varied.

[0021] In another embodiment of the invention, the hull ring can be designed as a female part rather than male. Consequently, the ring head can be designed having a male element rather than a female element. With the structures inverted, the hull ring and the ring head can be firmly coupled to be utilized together or can be detached and used independently. The ring head pin part, having a male coupling piece, can be configured with a bowed or concave form so that the ring head can be used independently as a pendant. Still, even with the ring head removed, the ring hull can be utilized as a ring. Notably, the radial pin of the ring head can be configured for use as a pin through the lobe of the ear. For example, the ring head can form a decorative part of a pair of earrings when detached from the hull element.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0039] The invention disclosed herein provides a multi-functional jewelry apparatus having a variety of multi-functional constituent parts. The constituent parts can serve as pieces of jewelry (or costume jewelry) independent of one another and the larger whole. More specifically, the invention can be a ring-like structure which can be worn as a ring. The multi-functionality of the constituent parts allows consumers to vary the arrangement, appearance, and layout of the overall ring. Moreover, individual parts can be detached from the larger unit and used as independent pieces of jewelry.

[0040] FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating one embodiment of the invention disclosed herein. As shown in FIG. 1, the above-mentioned ringed structure can include an element 10, referred to as the hull, which can be configured to fit a finger. The hull 10 can include a radial pin stem 101 extending outward from an outer surface of the hull 10. The radial pin stem 101 can cooperatively engage a female element on the ring head structure 11.

Referring to FIG. 2, the radial pin stem 101 of the ring hull 10 can include two opposing slots 102 of suitable length and depth located substantially orthogonal to the radial pin stem 101. An element 103 can be placed at the top or opposite side of the radial pin 101 with respect to the end connected to the ring hull 10. Notably, the element 103 can be a decorative piece such as an ornamental stone. Regardless, the hull 10, either with or without the ring head 11, can be used and worn as a ring as shown in FIG. 2.

[0042] FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating an embodiment of the ring head structure 11 of the invention. The ring head structure 11 can include a ring head container 25 and a cap 114. The ring head container 25 and cap 114 can be configured as any of a variety of shapes, including but not limited to, box shaped or cylindrically shaped. The ring head container 25 can include a top area 113 which can be decorated. The ring head container 25 can be pivotally attached to the cap 114 using a hinge 115. Accordingly, the ring head container 25 can be closed using the cap 114.

[0043] The cap 114 can include an internal rim and a stop spring element made of suitable elastic warping material such as harmonic steel. The stop spring element can extend along the rim and then split into two symmetrical and opposing branches 121 and 122. As shown in FIG. 4, the ring head 11 can be opened on at least on one side using the hinge 115 pivotally attaching the ring head container 25 and the cap 114. Preferably, a ring-like part 117 can be placed in a complementary fashion on the cap 114. When placed on top of the stop spring element 12, the ring-like part 117 can surround the bulge 116 to form a kind of “O” ring for the ring head container 25.

As shown in FIG. 4, the cap part 114 and the ring head container 25 can be closed using an elastic warping tongue 20. The tongue 20 can be set tangentially with respect to the cap piece 114, blocking the internal edge of the ring head container 25, and assuring a click system fastening of the cap 114 with the ring head container 25. The invention, however, is not limited to the precise embodiments disclosed herein. For example, the ring head container 11 can be closed using a threaded screw action or a pressure locking mechanism.

[0046] FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view illustrating an embodiment of the ring head structure cap of the invention. As shown in FIG. 5, cap 114 can include a hole or receptacle 112 in the middle of the cap 114 surrounded by the bulge 116 being substantially coaxial to the receptacle 112. The hole 112, being complementary to the pin 101, can receive and cooperatively engage the pin 101. The branches 121 and 122 can be located opposite one another situated within their respective opposing slots 13 on the edges of the bulge 116. The top portion of the bulge 116 can be solid or open such that the opening can be filled by the top of the pin 101. The ring head 11 can be attached to the hull 10 as follows: as the pin 101 passes through the opening 112, the two branches 121 and 122 of the stop spring element can click into the corresponding slots 102 on the stem of the pin 101. Accordingly, FIG. 6 is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of the invention wherein the ring head structure and the hull are cooperatively engaged.

[0052] FIGS. 15 and 16 are schematic diagrams illustrating embodiments of the invention wherein the ring head 11 has been configured to secure earrings. As shown, the ring head 11 can be designed to store one or more earrings 23, preferably of a ring-like shape, fastened to the ring head 11 in any proper way. Preferably, the earrings 23 can be externally fastened to the ring head 11. In one embodiment, the outside surface of the container ring head 11 can be configured with a sunken or concave wall to fit at least a pair of earrings 23. Accessories such as earrings can be placed coaxially one on top of the other. The earrings can be placed on a grooved surface of the ring head 11 and can be held firmly by pressure fastenings. Regardless of the particular implementation, one or more earrings 23 can be attached to the ring head 11 in any number of different ways using any suitable fastening elements.

Further, the structures can be configured using any kind of style and cutting. Claims

1. A multi-function jewelry apparatus comprising:

a ring hull having a radial pin extending outward from an outer surface of said ring hull; and
a substantially hollow head portion detachably mounted on said ring hull, said head portion having a receptacle for receiving and engaging said radial pin.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said radial pin and said receptacle are threaded to engage one another.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said receptacle and said radial pin engage one another using a pressure locking mechanism or an automatic release mechanism.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, said head portion comprising:

a cap containing said receptacle in a bottom side of said cap, said cap having a bulge on a top side of said cap accommodating said receptacle, said bulge having two opposing indentations and being coaxial to said receptacle; and
a ring head container detachably mounted to said cap, wherein said ring head container and said cap close to form said substantially hollow head portion.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, said ring head container further comprising:

a looped ring portion attached to an outer edge of said ring head container for hanging said head portion.

6. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising a necklace disposed in said head portion.

7. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising a bracelet disposed in said head portion.

8. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said ring head container is hingedly attached to said cap.

9. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said ring head container and said cap are threaded to engage one another.

10. The apparatus of claim 4, said head portion comprising:

a tongue fastener mounted on said cap for securing said ring head container to said cap.

11. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein said head portion and said cap engage one another using a pressure locking mechanism or an automatic release mechanism.

12. The apparatus of claim 4, said ring head container comprising a top portion being substantially parallel to said cap when closed and side walls being substantially perpendicular to said cap when closed.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein said side walls are configured for coaxially securing at least one loop earring.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising at least one earring coaxially secured to said ring head container.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said side walls are grooved.

16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said side walls are concave.

17. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein:

said cap has an internal rim and a stop spring element attached to said cap, said stop spring element being divided into two opposing branches, wherein each said branch engages one of said opposing two indentations, and wherein each of said opposing branches of said stop spring element is confined by said internal rim;
said radial pin has two opposing slots, said slots being orthogonal to said radial pin; and
wherein said receptacle engages said radial pin and each said branch of said stop spring element lockably engages each said opposing slot of said radial pin.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, said head portion further comprising:

a cover fixed to said top side of said cap covering said stop spring element.

19. A multi-function jewelry apparatus comprising:

a ring hull having a radial pin extending outward from an outer surface of said ring hull;
a substantially hollow head portion detachably mounted on said ring hull, said head portion comprising a ring head container and a cap;
a loop attached to said ring head container for hanging said head portion;
a tongue fastener mounted to said cap for securing said ring head to said cap;
wherein said cap contains a receptacle in a bottom side of said cap for receiving and engaging said radial pin, said cap having a bulge on a top side of said cap accommodating said receptacle, said bulge having two opposing indentations being coaxial to said receptacle;
wherein said ring head container is detachably mounted to said cap, said ring head container comprising a top portion being substantially parallel to said cap when closed and side walls being substantially perpendicular to said cap when closed, said ring head container and said cap forming said substantially hollow head portion;
wherein said cap comprises an internal rim and a stop spring element attached to said cap, said stop spring element being divided into two opposing branches such that each said branch engages one of said opposing two indentations, and each of said opposing branches of said stop spring element is confined by said internal rim;
wherein said radial pin has two opposing slots, said slots being substantially orthogonal to said radial pin; and
wherein said receptacle engages said radial pin and each said branch of said stop spring element lockably engages each said opposing slot of said radial pin.

20. A multi-function jewelry apparatus comprising:

a substantially hollow head portion having radial pin extending outward from a bottom surface of said head portion; and
a ring hull for detachably mounting said head portion, said ring hull having a receptacle for receiving and engaging said radial pin.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein said radial pin of said head portion is a post for wearing said head portion as an earring.

22. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein said radial pin and said receptacle are threaded to engage one another.

23. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein said receptacle and said radial pin engage one another using a pressure locking mechanism or an automatic release mechanism.

24. The apparatus of claim 20, said head portion comprising:

a cap having said bottom surface having said radial pin extending outward from said bottom surface;
a ring head container detachably mounted to said cap, wherein said ring head container and said cap close to form said substantially hollow head portion.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, said ring head container further comprising:

a looped ring portion attached to an outer edge of said ring head container for hanging said head portion.

26. The apparatus of claim 24, further comprising a necklace disposed in said head portion.

27. The apparatus of claim 24, further comprising a bracelet disposed in said head portion.

28. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein said ring head container is hingedly attached to said cap.

29. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein said ring head container and said cap are threaded to engage one another.

30. The apparatus of claim 24, said head portion comprising:

a tongue fastener mounted on said cap for securing said ring head to said cap.

31. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein said head portion and said cap engage one another using a pressure locking mechanism or an automatic release mechanism.

32. The apparatus of claim 24, said ring head container comprising a top portion being substantially parallel to said cap when closed and side walls being substantially perpendicular to said cap when closed.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein said side walls are configured for coaxially securing at least one loop earring.

34. The apparatus of claim 33, further comprising at least one earring coaxially secured to said ring head container.

35. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein said side walls are grooved.

36. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein said side walls are concave.

37. A multi-function jewelry apparatus comprising:

a substantially hollow head portion comprising a ring head container and a cap, said ring head container being configured to coaxially secure at least one earring and being detachably mounted to said cap, wherein said ring head container and said cap close to form said substantially hollow head portion, said cap having a radial pin extending outward from a bottom surface of said cap;
a ring hull for detachably mounting said head portion, said ring hull having a receptacle for receiving and engaging said radial pin; and
a looped ring portion attached to said head portion for hanging said head portion.
