Door jamb repair assembly

Abstract

A universal and decorative plate assembly is mounted on the door-jamb to cover and repair the damaged area. When that area has been damaged by the jamb bracket and screws being torn loose from the door-jamb.

Description

DISCUSSION OF PRIOR ART

[0003] The broad purpose of this invention is to cover a torn and unsightly door-jamb when the screws have been torn loose and the wood ripped also to provide a surface to which the jamb bracket may be re-attached.

[0004] This invention is related to door closers and particularly to a section of door-jamb. When the section has had the jamb bracket and any reinforcing method (previous patents) torn out of the door-jamb. This can occur in when the door is forcefully opened by high winds. It may also occur when some one forces the door open.

[0005] This condition is unsightly and difficult to repair. It requires the damaged part to be drilled out and wood dowels to be glued in the holes where the screws were. It may also require the door closer to relocated to another position on the door.

[0006] There are preventative measures such as re-enforcing of the door-jamb but nothing to cover or repair the damage when or after it has occurred.

[0007] This invention is an assembly, which consists primarily of an aesthetic cover plate, which will be aluminum or other material, which has several openings to accommodate screws, which will go though the plate. The screws will then go though the door-jamb and into the rough framing around the door opening. This plate could also be fastened to the door-jamb by other means such as adhesives. This plate will also have several openings which will receive screws to fasten the jamb bracket to the to the plate.

[0008] The plate will be aesthetic in appearance and will be universal because one set of openings for the jamb bracket will be close to one end of the plate. This will allow the plate to be mounted close to the top of the door-jamb. Conversely if the plate is inverted it could also be mounted close the bottom of the door-jamb. There are also a series of holes, which will facilitate center mounting, three quarter mounting or end mounting of the jamb bracket to the plate. This will allow the plate to cover different sections of the door-jamb that have been damaged when the screws have been pulled out.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0009] FIG. 1, an exploded view, illustrates the end of a conventional hydraulic cylinder 4, which actuates a rod 6, which is in turn fastened by pivot pin 8 to jamb bracket 22. The opposite end of the hydraulic cylinder is fastened to the door (not shown). This controls the manner in which the door is opened and closed as is well known to those skilled in the art.

[0010] Jamb bracket 22 is conventional and is formed of sheet metal with two feet on one end and a hole on the opposite end to receive the pivot pin 8. The feet each have two openings to receive threaded screws 32,34,36 and 38. These screws go though the feet of jamb bracket and are threaded into the plate 18 by means of threaded holes 40.

[0011] The plate 18 is placed in juxtaposition to the door jamb 14 and is fastened to the door-jamb and into the rough framing 10 by screws 24,26,28 and 30. These screws are inserted through holes 46 and 48 in the plate.

[0012] FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the method in which a jamb bracket is mounted to the plate. In FIG. 2 the screws fastening the jamb bracket to the plate are in the universal position which will allows the plate to be mounted at the top or bottom of the door-jamb.

Claims

1. I have developed a door-jamb repair assembly kit consisting of an aesthetic plate, a jamb bracket and screws. I claim that this assembly provides an aesthetic method to repair door jambs that have been damaged when the jamb bracket has been torn from the door-jamb.

The assembly will cover the damaged door jamb area that has occurred as a result of the original jamb bracket being torn from the door-jamb. It also provides a universal method of repairing different sections of the door-jamb as the screw holes are located in three different areas on the plate allowing the plate to be placed at any position on the door-jamb. In addition, my method of fastening the plate to the door-jamb and into the rough framing greatly increases the force necessary to pull the replaced door-jamb bracket from the door-jamb.
