Miter saw table

A miter saw table comprising a first elongated base platform having a first raised table top portion extending inward from one end and terminating at one side edge of a vertically adjustable shelf for a miter saw located at the mid-region of the first elongated base platform, and also having a second raised table top platform extending inward from the opposite end of the elongated base platform and terminating at the opposite side edge of the vertically adjustable miter saw shelf. The vertical end walls of each raised table top portion facing their respective side edges of the shelf have vertical slots to receive bolts of brackets connected to each opposite side edge of the adjustable shelf. The bolts can slide up and down to raise and lower the shelf to a desired position, whereupon the bolts can be tightened to hold the shelf and a miter saw thereon at such location.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates to the field of tables for particular carpenter tools, namely miter saws. The table includes several features that make it easier to work with miter saws including a central location thereon for a miter saw and supporting areas of the table for portions of the work piece extending outward toward each opposite side of that central location.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The table for miter saws in accordance with the invention comprises a table about six feet long, about twelve and a half inches wide, and supported about waist high on a set of folding legs. Two raised table portions are provided that extend inward from each opposite end about two feet to terminate at respective side walls on each opposite side edge of a vertically adjustable shelf provided for a miter saw. The respective side walls have vertically extending slots that receive bolts which secure a respective bracket to each side wall that supports a shelf on which the miter saw can be placed. When the bolts are loosened, the shelf can slide upward or downward in the respective slots. When the desired vertical adjustment has been reached, the bolts can be tightened down to hold the shelf and miter saw thereon at that vertical position.

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0026] The table 2 for a miter saw in accordance with the present invention includes a base platform member 4 about six feet long and about twelve and a half inches wide supported on a set of folding legs 6. The base platform member 4 has a planar upper surface 8.

[0027] A first raised table top assembly 10 is provided on top of the planar surface 8 of the base platform member 4 at one end 12 thereof, extending inwardly from that end about two feet to terminate at an inner end wall 14 that extends upwardly from the surface 8 of the base platform member 4 to the planar table top 16 of the first raised table top assembly 10. A second raised table top assembly 18 is provided on top of the planar surface 8 of the base platform member 4 at the opposite end 20 thereof, extending inwardly from that end about two feet to terminate at an inner end wall 22 that extends upwardly from the surface 8 of the base platform member 4 to the second planar table top 24 of the second raised table top assembly 18.

[0028] The first planar table top 16 of the first raised table top assembly 10 and the second planar table top 24 of the second raised table top assembly 18 are each about twenty five and a half inches long and about eleven and three-fourths inches wide. The inner end wall 14 of the first raised table top assembly 10 is formed as part of a three-sided peripheral side wall member 15 that also covers the outer end wall and one side wall of the raised table top assembly 10 to form a pocket therein. The inner end wall 22 of the second raised table top assembly 18 is formed as part of a three sided peripheral side wall member 23 that also covers the outer end wall and one side wall of the second raised table top assembly 18 to form a pocket therein.

[0029] A vertically adjustable shelf 26 is positioned between the first and second raised table top assemblies. Inner end wall 14 of the first raised table top assembly 10 has a pair of spaced apart vertically extending slots 28, and inner end wall 22 of the second raised table top assembly 18 has a pair of spaced apart vertically extending slots 30. A first bracket member 32 is secured to the side edge 34 of the adjustable shelf 26, and a second bracket member 36 is secured to the opposite side edge 38 of the adjustable shelf 26. Bolts 38 extend through holes in the respective bracket members 32 and 36 and through the respective slots 28 and 30 in the respective end walls 14 and 22 on each side of the shelf 26. When the bolts 38 are loosened, the shelf 26 can be adjusted up and down between the end walls 14 and 22. The shelf can be held at any desired vertically adjusted position between the first and second raised table top assemblies 10 and 18 by tightening down the bolts 38.

[0030] The adjustable shelf 26 is preferably about twenty-four inches long, about fifteen inches wide, and about three-fourths inches thick. It is the right size for a miter saw to set on the adjustable shelf 26 between the first and second raised table top assemblies 10 and 18 in such a manner that when the end portions of a work piece are being sawed in the miter saw the extending portions of the work piece lie on the respective adjacent planar surfaces of the facing raised table tops 16 and 24.

[0031] The table in accordance with this invention is particularly reinforced and supported for use as a miter table saw. It includes a first side frame member 40 along one side of the base platform member 4, and a second side frame member 42 along the opposite side of the base platform member. It includes a stiffener member 44 extending across the first end 12 and under the base platform member 4, a second stiffener member 46 extending under the base platform member 4 at a location about twenty four inches inward from the first end 12, a third stiffener member 48 extending across the second end 20 and under the base platform member 4 and a fourth stiffener member 50 at a location about twenty four inches inward from the second end 20.

[0032] A first leg mounting bracket 52 is provided under the base platform member 4 about three inches inward from the first end 12, a second leg mounting member 54 is provided under the base platform member 4 about eleven and a half inches inward from the first end 12, on which to mount the folding legs 6 for one end of the table.

[0033] A third leg mounting bracket 56 is provided under the base platform member 4 about three inches inward from the second end 20, and a fourth leg mounting bracket 58 is provided under the base platform member 4 about eleven and a half inches inward from the second end 20, on which to mount the folding legs 6 for the opposite end of the table.

Claims

1. A miter saw table comprising an elongated base platform having an upwardly facing surface, a first end, a spaced apart second end, and a mid-region between said first end and said second end, a first raised platform assembly on said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform extending inwardly from said first end thereof and terminating at an upwardly extending first end wall of said first raised platform assembly, a second raised platform assembly on said elongated base platform extending inwardly from said second end thereof and terminating at an upwardly extending second end wall of said second raised platform assembly, a shelf on which to place a miter saw located in said mid-region of said elongated base platform, said shelf being movable upwardly and downwardly above said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform, said first raised platform assembly including a first platform member thereon, said second raised platform assembly including a second platform member thereon, and means to releasably secure said shelf at a desired spaced apart distance from said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform as well as from said first platform member of said first raised platform assembly and from said second platform member of said second raised platform assembly.

A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said means to releasably secure said shelf at a desired spaced apart vertical distance from said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform as well as from said first platform member of said first raised platform assembly and from said second platform member of said second raised platform assembly comprises first securing means securable to different vertical portions of said first end wall of said first raised platform assembly and second securing means securable to different vertical portions of said second end wall of said second raised platform assembly, a first portion of said shelf facing said first securing means and being positioned thereon for vertical movement therewith when said first securing means is secured to different vertical portions of said first end wall of said first raised platform assembly, a second portion of said shelf facing said second securing means and being positioned thereon for vertical movement therewith when said second securing means is secured to different vertical portions of said second end wall of said second raised platform assembly.

3. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said elongated base platform is about six feet long and about twelve and a half inches wide.

4. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform is substantially planar.

5. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said elongated base platform includes a reinforcing first side frame member along one side thereof.

6. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 5, wherein said elongated base platform includes an additional reinforcing member comprising a second side frame member along the opposite side thereof.

7. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said elongated base platform includes a first stiffener member across said first end thereof and a second stiffener member across said second end thereof.

8. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 7, wherein said elongated base platform includes a third stiffener member under said elongated base platform about twenty-four inches inward from said first end thereof and a fourth stiffener member under said elongated base platform about twenty-four inches inward from said second end thereof.

9. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, including a first leg mounting bracket under said elongated base platform about three inches inward from said first end thereof and a second leg mounting bracket under said elongated base platform about three inches inward from said second end thereof.

A miter saw table as set forth in claim 9, including a third leg mounting bracket under said elongated base platform about eleven and a half inches inward from said first end thereof and a fourth leg mounting bracket under said elongated base platform about eleven and a half inches inward from said second end thereof.

11. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first raised platform assembly on said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform extending inwardly from said first end thereof includes a peripheral wall, said peripheral wall including a side wall of said first raised platform assembly, said upwardly extending first end wall of said first raised platform assembly being included in said peripheral wall of said first raised platform assembly, wherein said second raised platform assembly on said upwardly facing surface of said elongated base platform extending inwardly from said second end thereof includes a peripheral wall, said peripheral wall of said second raised platform assembly including a side wall, said upwardly extending second end wall of said second raised platform assembly being included in said peripheral wall of said second raised platform assembly.

A miter saw table as set forth in claim 11, wherein said peripheral wall of said first raised platform assembly comprises a unitary wall member forming both said side wall and end wall thereof and said peripheral wall of said second raised platform assembly also comprises a unitary wall member forming both said side wall and end wall thereof.

13. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said shelf located at said mid-region of said elongated base platform is about twenty four inches long, about fifteen inches wide, and about three-fourths of an inch thick.

14. A miter saw table as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first platform member on said first raised platform assembly and said second platform member on said second raised platform assembly are each about twenty five and one-half inches long and about eleven and three-fourths inches wide.
