Emergency roof repair kit
The invention provides a new and useful process for emergency roof repair to a home damaged by weather or strife. The invention includes plastic sheeting, roofing nails, claw hammer, bungie ties, utility knife, safety goggles, work gloves, and tool belts. The components function together pursuant to the prescribed process to effect repair. Sheeting is rolled on a sturdy cardboard core which permits the user to pull the proper length of sheeting from the roof-mounted box. The sheeting is secured to the damaged area with the plastic capped roofing nails or elasticized bungie ties on the anchoring bands of the sheeting.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe “Emergency Roof Repair Kit” was developed in response to a need identified by international relief organizations for a simplified kit containing everything required to effect immediate temporary repair to the roof of a single-family home damaged by severe weather or as a result of war and/or civil strife.
The “Emergency Roof Repair Kit” is self-contained and includes all the tools, repair materials as well as illustrated instructions necessary to enable a homeowner to repair his/her roof. Special roof repair skills are not necessary to use this product.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONThe invention consists of several components placed in a corrugated cardboard box. The components are designed to provide a temporary emergency repair and protection system against weather damage for a single-family house including everything required to effect the repair.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONThe “Emergency Roof Repair Kit” is a temporary emergency protection system for weather damaged roofs and incorporates all components needed to facilitate repair.
The corrugated cardboard box is designed to be mounted on the roof and includes the following components:
740 square feet (113.75′×6.5′) Plastic Sheeting of woven high density polyenthylene (HDPE) black fibers laminated on both sides with low density polyenthylene (LDPE) coating. Reinforced with 3 anchoring bands of 7.5 cm (Approximately 3″) made of women black HDPE black fibers and coated outside. Color: White (Reflective) with Grey Bands. Sheeting thickness is 10 mil with the bands at 20 mil. Bands allow for the nailing of the sheeting and are designed to prevent tearing.
200 Ea., Plastic-Capped Roofing Nails to attach sheeting to roof. Plastic-capped nails help to keep moisture from entering at the point of nail puncture.
1 Ea, Claw Hammer with Wood Handle.
12 Ea, Elasticized Bungie Ties—These ties include an anchoring head which enables the sheeting to be secured to studs or scaffolding whenever the use of nails is not practical.
1 Ea, Utility Knife allows the installer to cut the sheeting to size.
1 Pair, Safety Goggles.
1 Pair, Leather Work Gloves.
1 Ea, Tool Belt to hold roofing nails, elasticized ties and claw hammer during installation.
Sheeting is rolled on a sturdy cardboard core which allows the user to pull the desired length from the roof-mounted box which will then be secured to the damaged area with the plastic-capped roofing nails or elasticized bungie ties anywhere on the anchoring bands of the sheeting. Sheeting should be installed from the lower part of the roof upwards with each successive row overlapped by at least 6″ which will help prevent moisture and wind from entering the structure.

Claims
1. A temporary emergency protection system for weather damaged roofs which incorporates the following components functioning together to facilitate repair:
- 1. Corrugated cardboard box designed to be temporarily secured to the roof during installation.
- 2. Plastic sheeting of woven high density polyethylene black fibers laminated on both sides with low density polyethylene with anchoring bands made of woven black fibers. These anchoring bands are a key component to the system as they enable the plastic sheeting to be secured to the roof without fear of tearing.
- 3. Plastic-capped roofing nails help to keep moisture from entering at the point of nail puncture.
- 4. Claw hammer.
- 5. Elasticized bungie ties.
- 6. Utility knife.
- 7. Safety goggles.
- 8. Work gloves.
- 9. Tool belt.
- 10. Sturdy cardboard core on which plastic sheeting is rolled and allows for the sheeting to be easily dispensed from the box.
