Protector for hair cutting

Abstract

A visor, including a shield having a front edge, a back edge, a right edge, a left edge, a top surface and a bottom surface, the shield having longitudinal perforations extending from the back edge to the front edge; an attachment rim joined to the shield; and a connector joined to the rim and a method of protecting the eyes of a person including the steps of tearing a shield along longitudinal, latitudinal and vertical perforations to fit a person's forehead; removing an adhesive protector from the shield; and adhesively joining the shield to a person's forehead such the entire shield from a right edge to a left edge are located outside a person's hairline.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to hair cutting and more particularly to devices and methods for keeping snips of hair out of the eyes and face of the person getting the hair cut.

BACKGROUND

Hair cutting is common in nearly all cultures. Scissors and shears are tools of the trade and hair snips spread across a client's face, eyes, lips and ears is the embarrassing, result. Vacuum type hoses, clothes, aprons, brushes and other tools are needed to attempt to keep the hair snips off a client. Still the hair snips find their way into the client's clothes and stick to the person's skin in a wide variety of locations.

Some visors have been use to deflect the hair snips away from the person's face. These visors need a manner of securing to the person and visors are commonly provided with a strap that goes around the back of the person's head. This pins the hair against the person's head at a time when a hair stylist is trying to comb and cut the hair. These visors are of a poor design that, while keeping snips of hair off a person's face, cause problems in that they obstruct the hair dresser's ability to do their job.

These visors tend to come in one size. The visors are not adjustable between people having different size heads. The size made for adults is the sized used on children. That is, while the strap will adjust and secure the visor, the visor itself does not change.

What is needed is a visor that holds to a person's forehead, but does not do so with a strap. The visor should be positioned on the person outside the hairline. Desirably, the visor is reusable and adjustable in size.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a visor, that holds to a person's forehead, but does not do so with a strap. The visor may be positioned on the person outside the hairline to avoid interfering with a hair stylist's activities. The visor is disposable, reusable and adjustable in size.

The present visor is provided with an attachment rim and a connector. The shield may have a front edge, a back edge, a right edge, a left edge, a top surface and a bottom surface. The shield may further have longitudinal weakened lines extending from the back edge to the front edge. The attachment rim may be joined to the shield and the connector may join the attachment rim to a user.

The present invention is also provided with a method of protecting the eyes of a person comprising the steps of: tearing a visor along longitudinal, latitudinal and vertical perforations to fit a person's forehead; preparing the connector and visor combination; and adhesively joining the visor to a person's forehead such the entire visor from a right edge to a left edge are located proximal a person's temples.

Advantageously, the present invention joins to a person's forehead proximal to the temples to not overlap or otherwise interfere with the hair being cut.

As a further advantage, no parts of the present invention hold down the hair being cut.

As still yet another advantage, the present invention is adjustable to fit the foreheads of small children on up to large heads of adults.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

A visor 10 is provided with a shield 12, an attachment rim 30 and a connector 50. The visor 10 is particularly suited for keeping hair snips out of the face 72 of a user 70, positioning forward of the temple area 76 or ears 78, e.g. outside the hairline 82. Each component will be discussed in serial fashion.

The shield 12 may have a front edge 14, a back edge 16, a right edge 18, a left edge 20, a top surface 22 and a bottom surface 24. Desirably, the shield 12 is formed of paper, cardboard or an inexpensive plastic. In a particular situation, it may be desirable to adjust the size of the shield 12 to fit the particular user 70. Accordingly, the shield 12 may have longitudinal weakened lines 26, such as perforations, extending from the back edge 16 to the front edge 14. This allows the width of the shield 12 to be adjusted from a manufactured width of perhaps ten inches, to a particular use size, perhaps of eight inches. One may also desire to adjust the distance from which the shield 12 extends, perhaps from a manufactured three inches to a in-use length of two inches, to assist the barber in clipping. Accordingly, the shield 12 may have latitudinal weakened lines 28, such as perforations, lines directing a scissors or other method of marking and/or cutting/tearing, extending from the right edge 18 to the left edge 20. Adjusting the width may be of more importance in that it keeps the hair 80 out of the user's 70 face 72.

The attachment rim 30 may have a front surface 32, a back surface 34, a right edge 36, a left edge 38, a top edge 40 and a bottom edge 42. The bottom edge 42 of the attachment rim 30 may be joined to the back edge 16 of the shield 12, homogeneously, integrally, e.g., both part of the same piece of material, with adhesive, with welding or in any other matter known in the art of joining two thin pieces together. The attachment rim 30 may have vertical weakened lines 44, such as perforations, extending from the top edge 40 to the bottom edge 42 of the attachment rim 30. The vertical weakened lines 44 may join to the longitudinal weakened lines 26. Should a user desire to alter the width of the shield 12, the attachment rim 30 may be resized along the vertical weakened lines 44.

In a first embodiment, the connector 50 may include an adhesive layer 52 and an adhesive protector 58. The adhesive layer 52 may have an attachment side 54 and a protector side 56, such that the attachment side 54 of the adhesive layer 52 may be joined to the attachment rim 30 and the protector side 56 of the adhesive layer 52 may be joined to the adhesive protector 58. The adhesive protector 58 may have an adhesive side 60 and an exposed side 62. The adhesive side 60 of the adhesive protector 58 preferably is joined to the adhesive layer 52. The expose side 62 may be unconnected or may be joined to a second, third, fourth, etc. alternating layers of adhesive layers 52 and adhesive protectors 58. Alternating layers allow the shield 12 to be reused between users 70 by peeling the next below adhesive protector 58 and exposing an unused adhesive layer 52. The adhesive layer 50 may be perforated or otherwise cuttable to fit an adjusted size of the rim 30.

In a preferred embodiment, the connector 150 may be constructed at least in part by the user 70. The adhesive layer 152 may have an attachment side 154 and a protector side 156, such that the attachment side 154 of the adhesive layer 152 may be joined to the attachment rim 30 and the protector side 156 of the adhesive layer 152 may be joined to the adhesive protector 158. The barber sticks the adhesive layer 152 to the rim 30 and removes the adhesive protector 158 for use. Once used, the barber may apply a second adhesive layer 152, over the top of the first adhesive layer 152. The attachment side 154 of the second adhesive layer 152 should be of a stronger adhesive than on the protector side 156 such that the second adhesive layer 152 does not become dislodged when the adhesive protector 158 is removed or when removing the visor 10 from the user 70. Several adhesive layers 152 may be used in this manner.

In operation, the eyes an face 72 of a person 70, getting a haircut may be protected through the following steps. First, one tears a shield 12 along longitudinal, latitudinal and vertical weakened lines, 26, 28, and 44 respectively, to fit a person's forehead 74. An adhesive protector 58 may be removed from the shield 12. The shield 12 preferably is adhesively joined to a person's forehead 74 such the entire shield 12 from a right edge 18 to a left edge 20 and the connector 50 are located proximal a person's temples 76 outside a person's hair line. The shield 12 may be removed after cutting a person's hair 80. A second adhesive protector 58 may be removed from the shield 12 and the shield 12 may be adhesively joined to another's person's forehead 74.

Although the present invention has been described with reference to preferred embodiments, workers skilled in the art will recognize changes may be made in form and detail without departing from the spirit, and scope of the invention. For instance the visor 10 may come in a variety of colors with or without decorations and a couple standard sizes, e.g., adult and child, from which a proper fit may be obtained through cutting along the weakened lines.

Claims

1) A visor, comprising:

a shield having a front edge, a back edge, a right edge, a left edge, a top surface and a bottom surface, the shield having longitudinal perforations extending from the back edge to the front edge, the shield having latitudinal perforations extending from the right edge to the left edge;

an attachment rim having a front surface, a back surface, a right edge, a left edge, a top edge and a bottom edge, the bottom edge of the attachment rim being joined to the back edge of the shield, the attachment rim having vertical perforations extending from the top edge to the bottom edge of the attachment rim, the vertical perforations joining to the longitudinal perforations; and

a connector joined to the attachment rim.

2) A visor, comprising:

a shield having a front edge, a back edge, a right edge, a left edge, a top surface and a bottom surface, the shield having longitudinal weakened lines extending from the back edge to the front edge adapted for cutting the shield to size;

an attachment rim joined to the shield; and

a connector secured to the attachment rim.

3) The device of claim 2 wherein the shield has latitudinal weakened lines extending from the right edge to the left edge.

4) The device of claim 3 wherein the longitudinal weakened lines are perforations and wherein the latitudinal weakened lines are perforations.

5) The device of claim 2 wherein the attachment rim further includes a front surface, a back surface, a right edge, a left edge, a top edge and a bottom edge.

6) The device of claim 5 wherein the bottom edge of the attachment rim is joined to the back edge of the shield.

7) The device of claim 5 wherein the attachment rim has vertical weakened lines extending from the top edge to the bottom edge of the attachment rim.

8) The device of claim 7 wherein the vertical weakened lines are perforations.

9) The device of claim 7 wherein the vertical weakened lines join to the longitudinal weakened lines.

10) The device of claim 2 wherein the connector comprises an adhesive layer and an adhesive protector.

11) The device of claim 10 wherein the adhesive layer has an attachment side and a protector side.

12) The device of claim 11 wherein the attachment side of the adhesive layer is joined to the attachment rim.

13) The device of claim 11 wherein the protector side of the adhesive layer is joined to the adhesive protector.

14) The device of claim 10 wherein the adhesive protector has an adhesive side and an exposed side.

15) The device of claim 14 wherein the adhesive side of the adhesive protector is joined to the adhesive layer.

16) The device of claim 14 wherein the exposed side of the adhesive protector is joined to an attachment side of a second adhesive layer.

17) A method of protecting the eyes of a person comprising the steps of:

providing a visor having a shield and a connector,

tearing the shield along longitudinal, latitudinal and vertical weakened lines to fit a person's forehead;

removing an adhesive protector from the connector; and

adhesively joining the visor to a person's forehead such that the entire visor is located outside a person's hairline.

18) The method of claim 17 further comprising the step of:

removing the shield after cutting a person's hair.

19) The method of claim 18 further comprising the step of:

applying a second connector to the first connector.

20) The method of claim 19 further comprising the step of:

adhesively joining the shield to another's person's forehead.
