Laptop DrawerDrop

Abstract

The Laptop DrawerDrop is a new solution to a computer space problem so there is nothing to compare it to. It is a one piece (excluding the thumbscrew) non-technological accessory for laptops that can be constructed from polymers, hard rubber, leather, or fine woods. The DrawerDrop uses the existing space of a desk without taking up the work surface of the actual desktop or unavailable floor space. It is completely portable and no assembly is required. This invention allows left handed people an option in the placement of their computers.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention is an endeavor to provide a non-technical laptop computer accessory that will not take up the work space on top of a desk. The twist of a thumbscrew attaches it to the desk. The Drawe Drop can be put in place or removed quickly.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention will provide a space saving temporary but sturdy work surface for laptop computers that stores easily, is removed or placed quickly, and provides a workspace option for left- handed or right-handed people while it leaves desk top work space free.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

This invention is designed to fit securely over the top of an opened desk drawer in order to provide the option of placing a laptop computer on the left or the right side of the user and off of the actual desk top workspace. It takes up no floor space. If access to the drawer becomes necessary the Laptop DrawerDrop is simply lifted up and set back down. There is no assembly required. It is a reasonable efficient solution to the problem of space saving.

FIG. 1A: This invention is a 13″×16″×¼″ flat rectangular top. The outside of a stationary strip is 1¾″ from the 13″ platform edge and allows room to open the center desk drawer. The strip runs parallel to the 13″ edge of the platform and perpendicular to the 16″ side of the platform.

FIG. 2A: This overhead drawing demonstrates that the invention takes up no more floor space than an open drawer. The - - - demonstrates that since the edge of the invention is actually under the desktop the invention cannot flip out.

If selected material is wood the invention can be made by cutting one 13″×16″ rectangle from a piece of ¼″ thick wood. Next cut one 13″×1″ strip from ¼″ thick wood. Attach that strip 1¾″ from outside 13″ edge. 4″ from the outside 13″ edge route out a ⅛″ T track from the bottom of the platform piece, insert a t-based thumbscrew into the track. The thumbscrew allows 4″ of adjustment for varied drawer widths.

If selected material is solidifying gel, rubber, or a polymer material or metal that can be molded a plaster mold could be made of a completed wooden prototype.

From that a pouring mold could be constructed of the entire unit as a one solid piece item excluding the thumbscrew.

Claims

01. I claim as my invention the Laptop DrawerDrop which is a platform constructed to use the top drawer of an existing desk to provide a temporary, safe work surface on which to place a laptop in order not to occupy valuable desktop workspace or take up additional floor space.

02. I claim this invention is easily used by left or right-handed persons.

03. I claim there is no assembly and no tools are required, choose which side of the desk to use, open the top drawer, drop in the DrawerDrop tighten the thumbscrew.

04. I claim the length of the unit that extends from the desk body over the opened drawer to the drawer face is nestled beneath the overhang of the desktop to prevent it from being bumped off vertically.

05. I claim the strip that runs the length of the underside and straddles the inside drawer side panel and the thumbscrew on the opposite side provide stoppage to prevent the unit from slipping off the sides.
