Garment steamer
There is provided a garment steamer for domestic use that cooperates with a variety of different attachments to provide a variety of different steam or vapor emitting effects. The garment steamer also has an ionic and/or ozone generating/emitting feature to facilitate neutralizing odor and removing undesirable particulate from a garment. The garment steamer may also have a hanger and rod assembly in which a collapsible hanger selectively cooperates with a telescopic rod, which is connected to a base, such that the hanger can be selectively positioned at any location along the height of the rod and/or disengaged from the rod. The garment steamer also includes a fluid heating assembly enclosed in the base, a separable fluid container in separable fluid communication with the fluid heating assembly, and a separable hose in separable fluid communication with the fluid heating assembly, as well as with the variety of different attachments.

1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a garment steamer. More particularly, the present invention relates to a transportable garment steamer providing improved efficiency, effectiveness and convenience in use.
2. Description of the Prior Art
Garment steamers for use in the home are well known. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 5,609,047, U.S. Pat. No. 5,123,266, U.S. Pat. No. 4,426,857 and EP 0 079 866 each disclose a different variation on such a device.
None of the above, provide for a garment steamer that cooperates with a variety of different attachments to create a variety of different steam or vapor emitting effects, generates/emits a concentration of ions and/or ozone, and has a variety of other advantageous features. Such features include a collapsible/telescopic hanger/rod assembly, a separable fluid container, a separable insulated hose, as well as various safety features for improving safety in use. Thus, there is a need for a portable home garment steamer having the aforementioned features to provide greater flexibility, convenience, and efficiency in use. Also, preferably the steamer has a body that is sleek, compact, lightweight, and easily transportable.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIt is an object of the present invention to provide a garment steamer for use in a home.
It is another object of the present invention to provide such a garment steamer that is sleek, compact and lightweight.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide such a garment steamer that improves flexibility and efficiency in use.
It is yet another object of the present invention to provide such a garment steamer that cooperates with a variety of different attachments for producing a variety of different steam or vapor, emitting effects.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide such a garment steamer that has a selectively adjustable and collapsible telescopic hanger/rod assembly.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide such a garment steamer that has an ion and/or ozone generating/emitting feature.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention are achieved by a garment steamer having a housing or base, a separable fluid container in separable fluid communication with a fluid heating assembly, a fluid heating assembly, a separable hose in separable fluid communication with the fluid heating assembly as well as with a variety of attachments, an adjustable and collapsible telescopic hanger/rod assembly, and at least one ion/ozone generator/emitter assembly.

Preferably, base 10 has a wide relatively flat lower portion 12 and a tall relatively cylindrical upper portion 14 configured to distribute the weight of steamer 1 such that the center of gravity thereof is lowered closer to the ground thereby improving the overall stability of the device. Also preferably, lower portion 12 and upper portion 14 each enclose a portion of fluid heating assembly 30.
Lower portion 12 preferably has a number of transport structures 16 mounted to a bottom surface thereof. Preferably, transport structures 16 have at least four lightweight wheels made preferably of a durable plastic material. However, transport structures 16 can be of any type known to facilitate easy transport of steamer 1. Lower portion 12 preferably also has a cord reel (not shown) for selectively retaining or storing a power chord (not shown). Alternatively, lower portion 12 can have a cord wrap 18 that allows a user to wrap and store a power cord (also not shown). In addition, lower portion 12 preferably has a control 19 disposed thereon for controlling one or more operative functions, including powering the device. Control 19 can be of any type known and sufficient to provide the user with effective access and easy use.
Upper portion 14 preferably is centrally disposed above lower portion 12. Upper portion 14 preferably has a recess 11 with a first connector 13 for receiving fluid container 20 and connecting fluid container 20 to fluid heating assembly 30, a second connector 15 for connecting fluid heating assembly 30 to hose 40, and a third connector 17 for connecting hanger/rod assembly 50.

Having identified and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is appreciated that details may be modified in a variety of ways and that alternative embodiments are also within the scope of the present invention. In another example, it is preferably possible to situate an ion and/or ozone generator and a corresponding ion and/or ozone emitter (not shown), having at least the attributes previously preferably described with respect to each, in base 10 proximate fluid outlet 36. In this embodiment, the ion and/or ozone emitter is preferably situated to effectively infuse or introduce ions and/or ozone into the vaporized fluid exiting fluid outlet 36. It is noted that infusing the vaporized fluid with ions and/or ozone can have a beneficial cleansing effect thereon to reduce the build up of dust and other debris, thereby improving efficiency and effectiveness of garment steamer 1 as well as extending the useful life thereof.
The present invention having been thus described with particular reference to the illustrated embodiments thereof, it will be obvious that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the present invention as defined herein.
Claims
1. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said fluid container being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said hose being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a rod telescopically connected to said base; and
- a hanger being connected to said rod to collapsibly cooperate therewith.
2. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said hanger is integral with said rod.
3. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said hanger is slidable along said rod such that said hanger can be selectively positioned at any height along said rod.
4. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said hanger is separable from said rod.
5. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said rod has one or more locks for selectively positioning and securing said rod at a variety of different vertical positions.
6. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said rod cooperates with a hose retaining mechanism for storing said hose.
7. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said hose has an inner heat conducting tube and an outer insulating tube.
8. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said rod is telescopically received and said base.
9. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said rod is separably connected to said base.
10. The garment steamer of claim 9, wherein said rod has a stand.
11. The garment steamer of claim 10, wherein said stand is selectively separable from said rod.
12. The garment steamer of claim 10, wherein said stand is integral with said rod.
13. The garment steamer of claim 10, wherein said stand collapsibly cooperates with said rod to enable said rod to stand alone separate from said base, and to be selectively received in said base, wherein said base serves as a support for said rod.
14. The garment steamer of claim 1, wherein said fluid heating assembly has a fluid inlet for receiving a fluid from said fluid container, a boiler for receiving said fluid from said fluid inlet and for boiling said fluid, and a fluid outlet for receiving a portion of said fluid that is vaporized by said boiling and for conveying said vaporized fluid through said hose, thereby allowing a user to control the emission of said vaporized fluid.
15. The garment steamer of claim 14, wherein said hose cooperates with a variety of different attachments to provide a variety of different vapor emitting effects.

17. The garment steamer of claim 15, further comprising an ionic assembly with a UV light source for producing and emitting ions and/or ozone.
18. The garment steamer of claim 17, wherein said ionic assembly has a device being selected from the group consisting of an ion generator, an ozone generator, an ion emitter, an ozone emitter, and any combinations thereof.
19. The garment steamer of claim 18, wherein said device is situated to infuse or introduce said ions and/or ozone into a garment.
20. The garment steamer of claim 14, further comprising an ionic assembly for generating ions and/or ozone.
21. The garment steamer of claim 20, wherein said ionic assembly has a first ion and/or ozone generator, said first ion and/or ozone generator for generating ions and/or ozone of different polarity and/or intensity and a second ion and/or ozone emitter operatively connected with said first ion and/or ozone generator for emitting said ions and/or ozone.
22. The garment steamer of claim 20, wherein said ionic assembly has a UV light source for producing and emitting ions and/or ozone.
23. The garment steamer of claim 19, wherein said device is situated to infuse or introduce said ions and/or ozone into said vaporized fluid.
24. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said fluid container being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said hose being separable from said fluid heating assembly; and
- an ionic assembly for generating and/or emitting ions and/or ozone.
25. The garment steamer of claim 24, wherein said ionic assembly has an ion generator for generating ions and an ozone emitter operatively connected with said ion generator for emitting said ions and/or ozone.
26. The garment steamer of claim 24, wherein said ionic assembly has a UV light source for producing and emitting ions and/or ozone.
27. The garment steamer of claim 24, wherein said fluid heating assembly has a fluid inlet for receiving a fluid from said fluid container, a boiler for receiving said fluid from said fluid inlet and for boiling said fluid, and a fluid outlet for receiving a portion of said fluid that is vaporized by said boiling and for conveying said vaporized fluid through said hose, thereby allowing a user to control the emission of said vaporized fluid.
28. The garment steamer of claim 27, wherein said hose cooperates with a variety of different attachments to provide a variety of different vapor emitting effects.
29. The garment steamer of claim 28, wherein said ion and/or ozone emitter is situated to infuse or introduce ions and/or ozone into said vaporized fluid.
30. The garment steamer of claim 28, wherein said ion and/or ozone emitter is situated to infuse or introduce ions and/or ozone directly into a garment.
31. The garment steamer of claim 24, wherein said ionic assembly selectively generates ions and/or ozone with said ions and/or ozone having a different polarity, said ionic assembly providing a variety of voltage outputs.
32. The garment steamer of claim 31, wherein said ionic assembly emits ions and/or ozone of different polarity and/or intensity.
33. The garment steamer of claim 24, further comprising a garment support assembly cooperating with said base.
34. The garment steamer of claim 33, wherein said garment support assembly has a rod and a hanger.
35. The garment steamer of claim 34, wherein said rod is connected to said base to telescopically extend therefrom.
36. The garment steamer of claim 34, wherein said hanger is connected to said rod.
37. The garment steamer of claim 36, wherein said hanger is integral with said rod.
38. The garment steamer of claim 36, wherein said hanger is separable from said rod.
39. The garment steamer of claim 36, wherein said hanger cooperates with said rod to enable said hanger to collapsibly operate alone separate from said rod, and to collapsibly operate with said rod such that said rod selectively and adjustably supports said hanger.
40. The garment steamer of claim 34, wherein said rod is separable from said base and has a stand.
41. The garment steamer of claim 40, wherein said stand is connected to said rod to collapsibly cooperate therewith to enable said rod to stand alone separate from said base, and to cooperate with said base such that said base serves as a support for said rod.
42. The garment steamer of claim 34, wherein said hanger is slidable along said rod such that said hanger can be selectively positioned at any height along said rod.

57. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said fluid container being separable from said fluid heating assembly; and
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said hose being separable from said fluid heating assembly, wherein said base has an enlarged base portion having a frontal base side and a distal base side, wherein at least one of said frontal base side and said distal base side has a first structure protruding therefrom, said first structure for wrapping a power cord therearound.
58. The garment steamer of claim 57, further comprising a rod telescopically connected to said base, and further comprising a cord reel biasing device for biasing said power cord around said first structure.
59. The garment steamer of claim 58, further comprising a hanger being connected to said rod to collapsibly cooperate therewith.
60. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said fluid container being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said hose being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a rod being telescopically connected to said base; and
- a hanger being connected to said rod to collapsibly cooperate therewith, wherein said base has a controller connected thereto for controlling operation of the garment steamer, wherein said controller may be toggled from a first condition to a second condition by a user's foot.
61. The garment steamer of claim 60, wherein said controller operates a function of the garment steamer, wherein said function is selected from the group consisting of on, off, vaporizing, non-vaporizing, steaming, non-steaming, ionic steaming, ozone emission, ion emission and any combinations thereof.
62. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly and being separable therefrom;
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly and being separable therefrom;
- a rod being telescopically connected to said base;
- a hanger being connected to said rod to collapsibly cooperate therewith, wherein said fluid heating assembly has a fluid inlet for receiving a fluid from said fluid container, a boiler for receiving said fluid from said fluid inlet and for boiling said fluid, and a fluid outlet for receiving a portion of said fluid that is vaporized by said boiling and for conveying said vaporized fluid through said hose, thereby allowing a user to control the emission of said vaporized fluid, wherein said hose cooperates with an attachment to provide a vapor emitting effect, and wherein said fluid outlet has a nozzle, and said nozzle has a “T” shape.
63. A garment steamer comprising:
- a base having a fluid heating assembly;
- a fluid container in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly, said fluid container being separable from said fluid heating assembly;
- a hose in fluid communication with said fluid heating assembly and being separable therefrom; and
- a cord reel being in or in said base having a spindle for wrapping a power cord therearound.
64. The garment steamer of claim 63, wherein said cord reel is biased.
65. The garment steamer of claim 64, wherein said cord reel is biased by a spring for retracting said power cord around said spindle through said base.
66. The garment steamer of claim 65, further comprising a device for selectively retracting said cord reel around said spindle.
67. The garment steamer of claim 66, wherein said device is connected to a foot pedal, said foot petal for conveniently selectively retracting said power cord around said spindle, and for selectively unwinding said power cord.
