Toilet seat

Abstract

The toilet seat is adapted to be pivotally mounted on a toilet bowl and is specially configured for a person with large buttocks, disabled persons or children. The toilet seat includes a generally planar seat plate, and oval hole in the plate's central region. The plate is adapted to the pivotally mounted to the toilet bowl. Side extensions laterally extend from the seat plate. Each side extension has a lateral outboard end region disposed at an acute angle upwards from the generally planar seat. Each side extension includes a cut-out forming a handle for the person.

Description

The present invention relates to a toilet seat specially configured for a person with large buttocks, persons with a disability and children.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide a specially configured toilet seat, configured for a person large buttocks, which permits that person to better raise or lower himself or herself from the toilet seat.

It is an additional object of the present invention to provide lateral extensions permitting the person, either a large person or a person with a physical disability or children, to better lower himself or herself or raise himself or herself from the seat.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The toilet seat is adapted to be pivotally mounted on a toilet bowl and is specially configured for a person with large buttocks, disabled people and children. The toilet seat includes a generally planar seat plate, and oval hole in the plate's central region. The plate is adapted to the pivotally mounted to the toilet bowl. Side extensions laterally extend from the seat plate. Each side extension has a lateral outboard end region disposed at an acute angle upwards from the generally planar seat. Each side extension includes a cut-out forming a handle for the person.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The present invention relates to a toilet seat adapted to be pivotally mounted on a toilet bowl and especially configured for a person with large buttocks. Additionally, disabled persons may find the toilet seat useful. Further, children may find the seat more useful.

FIG. 1 diagrammatically illustrates a perspective view of toilet seat 20. Toilet 20 is rotatably attached to a toilet bowl (not shown) via hinge system 22 and rearward extensions 24 shown in FIG. 3. Toilet 20 includes a generally planar seat 26 having an oval hole 28 in its central region. In addition, toilet cover 30 is pivotally mounted to seat 20 via hinge system 22. Toilet seat 20 includes side extensions 32, 34 extending in regions 36, 38 from the generally planar seat plate 26. Side extensions 32, 34 laterally extend from seat plate 26 and each side extension has a laterally outboard end region 40 (shown in FIG. 4) which is disposed at an acute angle upwards from the generally planar seat plate. Angle A shown in FIG. 4 is less than 10 degrees from the plane defined by seat plate rear surface 26. Each side extension has a cut-out 42, 44 which provides a handle on the respective side extension 32, 34 thereby forming handles for either the person with large buttocks or the disabled person.

FIG. 2 diagrammatically illustrates a top view of the toilet seat. Similar numbers designate similar items throughout the figures. FIG. 2 also shows that the total lateral dimension of toilet seat 20 is 24 inches and the lateral dimension of the oval hole is 8 inches. Hence, the lateral dimension of each side extension is approximately the same as the lateral dimension of oval hole 28.

The length of oval hole 28 in FIG. 2 is 10 ¼ inches. Alternatively, the length of oval hole 28 may be 12 inches.

FIG. 3 diagrammatically illustrates a side elevational view of the toilet seat. Further, FIG. 3 shows that side extension 41 rises above seat plate 26.

FIG. 4 diagrammatically illustrates that the end region 41 of side extension 34 is disposed at an acute angle rising upwards above seat plate 26. Angle A is less than 10 degrees. The thickness of seat plate 26, that is thickness B, is 17/30 inches. The dimensional rise from seat plate 26 to the upper surface of upwardly disposed end region 41, that is dimension C in FIG. 4, is 1 and 9/16 inches.

Claims

1. A toilet seat adapted to be pivotally mounted on a toilet bowl and specially configured for users such as a person with large buttocks, disabled persons or children comprising:

a generally planar seat plate, said seat plate having an oval hole in its central region to permit passage of discharge into said toilet bowl, said seat plate adapted to be pivotally mounted on said toilet bowl;

side extensions laterally extending from said seat plate, each side extension having a laterally outboard end region disposed at an acute angle upwards from said generally planar seat plate; and

each side extension having a cut-out thereby forming a respective handle for said user.

2. A toilet seat as claimed in claim 1 wherein said oval hole in said seat plate has a lateral dimension and each lateral extension has a lateral dimension which is approximately the same as said lateral dimension of said oval hole.

3. A toilet seat as claimed in claim 2 wherein said cut-out has a length which equals of exceeds one-half of the length of said oval hole.

4. A toilet seat as claimed in claim 3 wherein the acute angle is less than 10 degrees.
