Extension module for aluminum collapsible boats
A foldable extension is provided for foldable aluminium boats. The extension is mounted to the boat in place of the transom or rear of the boat, which itself is then mounted at the back of the extension. The boat and extension are connected together by friction interlocking formed profiles on each part. The extension is preferably provided with a bench.
This application claims priority from German Patent Application No. 10 2004 027 020.1 filed Jun. 2, 2004.
BACKGROUNDThere are foldable boats of different manufacturers and designs. The starting point for the invention is the collapsible boat U.S. Pat. No. 5,488,922, the complete specification of which is hereby incorporated herein by reference.
Boats of this type have the advantage of being relatively easy to store and transport but the size and capacity of the boat is also similarly limited by what can be relatively easily transported and stored.
BRIEF DESCRIPTIONAccording to the invention, this size and capacity limitation of known collapsible boats is overcome by an extension module. The extension module can be optionally assembled together with the collapsible boat without wasting any component of the original boat in that the boat and extension module share the same transom or rear part. In this regard, the extension module is dimensioned with the same cross section as the rear portion of the collapsible boat. The extension module preferably also includes at least one bench to provide the extension module, and thereby to provide the extended collapsible aluminum boat with the necessary rigidity for stability and seaworthiness.
DRAWINGS
The Figures generally depict assembly of an extended collapsible boat 10 in accordance with the invention.
Extension module 14 preferably includes at least one bench 24 in order to provide sufficient rigidity and structural integrity to extension module 14 to make boat 10 seaworthy. Of course, more than one bench 24 may be provided as desired or as necessary based on the length of extension module 14.
Rear edge 20 of boat 12 is provided with a profile 30 as shown in
Claims
1. A foldable extension module for foldable aluminum boats which is provided with a matching dimension and shape as a rear portion of the boat so that it can be connected to the boat in mating fashion.
2. The foldable extension module according to claim 1, including a particularly formed profile on a front edge of the extension which provides a frictional interlocked connection and simultaneous sealing with the boat.
3. The foldable extension module according to claim 2 in which a rear edge of the boat includes a profile which matches the profile on the front edge of extension module.
4. The foldable extension module for foldable aluminum boats according to claim 1, including a stern mount which has a profile for mounting the stern.
5. The foldable extension module for foldable aluminium boats according to claim 4, wherein the stern mount has a second profile for forming a frictional interlocked connection with a rear edge of the extension module.
6. The foldable extension module for foldable aluminium boats according to claim 5, wherein the second profile matches and could alternatively provide a frictional interlock with a rear edge of the boat.
7. The foldable extension module for foldable aluminum boats according to claim 1, including at least one bench.
8. A foldable aluminum boat having a profile on a rear edge for mounting a extension module which is provided with a matching dimension and shape as a rear portion of the boat so that it can be connected to the boat in sealed, mating fashion, the extension module having a profile on a front edge for forming a frictional interlock with the profile on the rear edge of the boat.
9. The foldable aluminum boat according to claim 8, including a stern mount which has a profile for mounting the stern.
10. The foldable aluminium boat according to claim 9, wherein the stern mount has a second profile for forming a frictional interlocked connection with a rear edge of the extension module.
11. The foldable aluminium boats according to claim 10, wherein the second profile matches and could alternatively provide a frictional interlock with the profile on the rear edge of the boat.
12. The foldable aluminum boat according to claim 8, wherein the extension module includes at least one bench.
