Safety tub insert

What I claim is new about my invention is that the Safety Tub Insert will eliminate getting the patient in and out of the bottom of the fixed tub, which is unsafe at the very best. This will eliminate sitting on a stool and tripping on the same. When the safety tub insert is installed, the caretaker can help the patient sit on the edge of the tub and slide back to the center of the 4″ inch deep safety tub insert. The caretaker can then swing the patient's legs into the center of the tub. Now the patient is sitting and soaking their most likely spot to get a bed sore. Their bottom is in two to two and one-half inches of warm bath water. The caretaker can drain the safety tub insert into the fixed tub drain and dry 90% of the patient's body, swing legs out and the patient bottom will be 14″ to 22″ above the floor. It is much safer to stand from that height than the bottom of the fixed tub. The patient won't have to step over the side of the tub to get in or out of a tub ever again.

This application claims priority over provisional application no. 60598474

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to bath tubs. Many types of bath tubs are found in the home, hospitals, hotels and motels. These tubs do not have a very good safety record. The idea about the safety tub insert, is to have the bottom of the safety tub insert higher, above the bottom of the fixed tub so that a disabled person or patient can sit on the edge and slide back and down four inches minimum, then sit and soak in two to two and one-half inches of warm water. The disabled person or patient will not need as much assistance in getting in or out of the safety tub insert as would be needed to get in or out of the bottom of the fixed tub. Also, the caretaker will not be in as much danger of back injury from the assistance.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert so the bather doesn't have to get in and out of the full depth of the fixed bath tub.

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert that is light enough for one person to install and remove from the fixed tub.

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert strong enough to whole a two hundred pounds plus a person safely.

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert so that a disabled person doesn't have to get all the way down into the bottom of the fixed tub for a bath.

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert so that the disabled person's caretaker doesn't have to lift or try to lift the wet disabled person or patient from the bottom of the fixed tub.

It is the object of this invention to provide a safety tub insert that will provide a more safe way for the caretaker to assist the disabled patient in taking a bath.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

FIG. 1 shows a top elevation of the safety tub insert in accordance with a drain 1 top flange 2 sides 3 and bottom 4.

FIG. 2 shows a side elevation of the safety tub insert in accordance with a drain 1 top flange 2 sides 3 and bottom 4.

FIG. 3 shows a side elevation of the fixed bath tub with a drain 1 top flange 2 sides 3 and bottom 4.

Claims

A) A safety tub insert that can fit the undersides of its flanges over the top flanges of the fixed bath tub.

B) A safety tub insert to fit into the inner dimensions of the fixed bath tub light enough for one person to be able to install and remove, yet strong enough to hold two hundred plus pounds.

C) A safety tub insert with a depth, determined by the patient's deficits.
