Finger grip for tweesers and nail-clippers

FINGER GRIP FOR TWEESERS AND NAIL-CLIPPERS is an improvement to current tweezers and nail-clippers by the addition of finger grips on the levers of the devices. Finger grip is defined as a grip for the thumb or finger tip(s) and consists of hole(s) or depression(s) in the lever(s). The finger grips provide lateral constraint and prevent lateral slipping of the thumb and finger tip(s) on levers of tweezers and nail-clippers. Consequently, the tweezing and nail-clipping operation can be performed with greater accuracy and precision in less time because the lateral constraint facilitates improved control of device manipulation.

This application claims the benefit of prior filed provisional application for patent titled FINGER GRIP FOR TWEESERS AND NAIL-CLIPPERS, Application No. 60/598997, Filing Date of Aug. 5, 2004, filed by Milton Thomas Mellon, a citizen of the United States of America who resides at 2416 Roper Mountain Road, Simpsonville, S.C. 29681.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Tweezers, also called tweezer, is a hand-held device used to grasp objects that are too small to be grasped by the thumb and finger(s). Actuation of the tweezer is accomplished by direct manual compression of two levers that are each directly connected to one of two grasping members; the two levers are resiliently fastened at the end opposite the grasping members. The common tweezer device fall under U.S. Patent Classification Class 606, Surgery, Subclass 210, Tweezers, or Class 294, Handling: Hand And Hoist-line Implements, Subclass 99.2, Handheld (e.g., tweezer, tongs).

Nail-clippers, also called nail-clipper, are cutters with two opposing blades that meet edge to edge to perform the nail-cutting operation and are actuated by direct manual compression of two levers that drive the blades together. The common nail-clipper device fall under U.S. Patent Classification Class 30, Cutlery, Subclass 28, Nippers, or Class 132, Toilet, Subclass 75.5, Plural Cooperating Blade.

The problem with tweezers and nail-clippers in the prior art is the difficulty in positioning and actuation of these devices because they slip about the thumb and finger tip(s) transversely to the direction of grip and compression. Tweezers and nail-clippers do not possess a grip that restrict lateral slipping of the thumb and finger tip(s) to the extent necessary for quick, easy, and precise operation. Simple functionality of these devices have been neglected in the prior art.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention is an improvement by modification of existing tweezers or nail-clippers such that finger grips are provided on the levers of the devices. Finger grip is defined as a grip for the thumb or finger(s). The finger grips provide lateral constraint and prevent lateral slipping of the thumb and finger(s) on levers of tweezers and nail-clippers. Consequently, the tweezing and nail-lipping operation can be performed with greater accuracy and precision in less time because the lateral constraint facilitates improved control of device manipulation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Typical tweezers or nail-clippers have two pivoting levers that are compressed toward each other with the thumb and finger(s) in order to execute the tweezing or clipping operation. The levers tend to slip on the thumb and finger(s) lateral to the direction of compression and result in lack of control or loss of control of the tweezing or clipping operation.

This invention provides a finger grip in the form of a curvilinear hole, 2 in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, or holes in one lever, 1 in FIG. 1, FIG. 2, FIG. 3, and FIG. 4, or both levers or a curvilinear depression, 3 in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, or depressions in one or both levers or a combination of hole(s) and depression(s) in one or both levers of tweezers or nail-clippers. The thumb and finger tip(s) are inserted over the hole(s) or depression(s) of the levers and the levers are compressed toward each other. The projection of the flexible tissue of the thumb or finger(s) into the hole or depression provides a lateral constraint against the thumb or finger(s) slipping along or off the levers.

With respect to the above description, it is to be realized that the optimum relationships for the parts of the invention in regard to the configuration of hole(s) or depression(s), size, location on the lever, shape, form, materials, function and manner of operation, assembly and use are deemed readily apparent and obvious to those skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention. The present invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways.

It is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting. Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. The finger grip, consisting of hole(s) or depression(s) in the lever(s), prevent the lateral clip of thumb and finger tip(s) on levers of tweezers and nail-clippers; therefore; facilitate faster, easier controlled manipulation of these devices and promote accurate positioning and precise actuation of the tweezing and nail-clipping operation.
