Padded clothes hanger cover

A padded garment hanger cover is presented that is made of a single piece of thick fabric with ends sewn together to form a complete circle. There is a ½″ hem running lengthwise along the underside of both outer edges. The hemline is slightly gathered to give the finished padded hanger cover elasticity. The finished, circular body of the padded hanger cover has a small vertical slit, approximately 1″ in length that allows the hook of the hanger to be fed through the opening. Once the hanger hook is fed through the slit, the padded hanger cover may be stretched along the shoulders and along the bottom of the hanger, until the padded hanger cover completely covers the entire hanger. The padded hanger cover conforms to the shape of the entire hanger creating a padded cover. The hanger cover may be removed and re-applied on any conventional hanger.

Description

The present invention is designed to turn any conventional hanger into a padded hanger. The padded clothes hanger cover completely covers any standard wood, plastic, or wire hanger. It is removable and may be reapplied to any other conventional hanger.

The suggested fabric is one of heavy weight faux fur, faux leather, suede, terry cloth, or fleece due to the bulk of these fabrics and their ability to require no additional padding. Since the present invention is intended to also be fashionable, animal prints, furs, or bright colors are also recommended.

The present invention is unique in that it covers the entire hanger—not only the shoulder area—and eliminates hanger lines and creases on shirts, blouses, and sweaters, as well as slacks.

The padded clothes hanger cover is constructed of a piece of heavy weight fabric, (previously mentioned in paragraph 2), cut to 43″ long and 5″ wide. A ½″ hem is sewn along each of the 43″ sides on the back side of the fabric. The fabric is slightly gathered when creating the hem in order to create elasticity and easy application when stretching the padded hanger cover over the conventional hanger during the application process. The 5″ ends are stitched together to form a complete and continuous circle. There is a 1″ opening left in the center of the 5″ seam in order for the hook of the hanger to pass when applying the padded clothes hanger cover.

The padded clothes hanger cover is easy to apply by simply passing the hook of the conventional hanger through the 1″ opening on the back side of the padded hanger cover and stretching the hanger cover along the shoulders and bottom of the conventional hanger until it is secure.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The overall shape of the padded hanger cover is formed when a 43″ long and 5″ wide piece of fabric is sewn together on the 5″ ends to form a continuous circular piece, and a 1″ opening is left in the middle of the 5″ seam line in order for the hook of a hanger to pass through prior to stretching the padded hanger cover over the entire body of the hanger to form the padded clothes hanger cover.

The padded hanger cover of the present invention is both a functional and fashionable item. The selection of preferred heavy weight fabrics such as faux fur, faux leather, suede, cotton, terry cloth or fleece give the hanger cover natural padding to protect shirts, blouses, sweaters or pants from clothing hanger lines.

A total hanger cover, as described in the present invention, is unique and affords several advantages over present day padded hangers. The padded hanger cover of the present invention covers the entire hanger, including the pant hanging section of the hanger. Padded hangers sold today only protect the shoulder area of shirts and sweaters, not the pant hanging area. Present padded hangers are not re-moveable and re-attachable from hanger to hanger. The padded hanger cover of the present invention may be removed and reapplied to any full size hanger.

The padded hanger cover of the present invention is constructed in a universal size that is easy to apply by inserting the hook of the hanger through the 1″ opening on the backside of the padded hanger cover, and then stretching the body of the padded hanger cover over the shoulders and around the bottom of the hanger forming a complete padded hanger cover for any wood, plastic, or wire hanger.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a padded clothes hanger cover which completely covers an entire standard size wire, plastic, or wood hanger, and once in position, is stable, but may be removed and re-attached to other standard hangers.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

A conventional wood, plastic, or wire hanger has a tendency to leave hanger points in the shoulder area of shirts and sweaters, and leave creases in slacks; it can also damage the shape of fine silks, sweaters, and blouses. Furthermore, many garments slip off of a conventional hanger because of spaghetti straps or wide necklines.

The present invention makes it possible to turn any conventional hanger into a padded hanger by simply slipping the hook of a conventional hanger through the 1″ slit in the body of the padded clothes hanger cover, and stretching the padded clothes hanger cover over the body of the conventional hanger until it completely encapsulates the wire, plastic, or wood hanger. This padded clothes hanger cover creates padding and slippage protection for both shirts and sweaters, and protects pants from hanger lines and creases.

The present padded clothes hanger cover invention is not only functional, but also fashionable. It is intended to be constructed out of heavy weight faux fur, leather, suede, or fleece, in animal prints or bright colors. The heavy weight fabric serves as padding and adds bulk to eliminate the slippage of garments.

EXPLANATION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a reverse angle view of the padded clothes hanger cover as one piece of fabric 43″ in length and 5″ in width, with a ½″ hemline down each of the 43″ sides.

FIG. 2 is a reverse angle view illustrating the padded hanger cover sewn together along the 5″ side to form a continuous circle, yet leaving a 1″ opening in the center of the seam for the hook of the hanger to pass through during application.

FIG. 3 illustrates a front view of the padded hanger cover showing the 1″ vertical opening in the body of the hanger cover intended for the hanger hook to pass through in order to stretch the hanger cover over entire body of clothes hanger when applying to a conventional hanger.

FIG. 4 illustrates the hook of the clothes hanger passing through the backside of the padded hanger cover to begin the application process.

FIG. 5 illustrates the padded hanger cover stretched over entire clothes hanger, fully covering hanger shoulders and entire bottom of clothes hanger

Claims

1. A cover for a garment hanger that is comprised of

a) a single piece of thick fabric, approximately 43″ in length and 5″ in width
b) a ½″ hem that runs lengthwise on the underside of the fabric along both of the 43″ sides and is sewn slightly gathered to create elasticity when the loose ends of the fabric are stitched together to form a continuous circle
c) a 1″ vertical opening in the circular body of the padded hanger cover in the center of the 5″ seam for the hook of the hanger to pass through, wherein once the hook of the hanger is passed through the 1″ slit in the hanger cover, the hanger cover may be stretched to conform to the shape of a clothes hanger, creating a total hanger cover.

2. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the fabric selected is heavy enough to provide padding and eliminate shoulder points and hanger lines on garments that would rest on the hanger; preferable fabrics would be faux fur, faux leather, suede, cotton, terry cloth, or fleece.

3. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the hanger cover completely covers the entire body of the hanger providing padding for shirts, blouses, and sweaters as well as pants, since the cover also encapsulates the pant hanger portion of the hanger

4. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the heavy weight fabric helps keep clothes from slipping off of the ends of the hanger.

5. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the padded hanger cover is completely removable and may be re-applied to any wood, plastic, or wire hanger.

6. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the padded hanger cover is a universal size and conforms to the size of any full size wood, wire, or plastic hanger.

7. The clothes hanger cover of claim 1, wherein the fabric selected is stylish, thus creating a market for this hanger cover as a fashionable item, as well as functional hanger.
