A display device. The display device with multi-directional adjustment comprises a main body and a spherical base. The spherical base is connected to the main body to support the main body. The spherical base is hollow and comprises a filling filled therein for adjusting angles of the display device, and the filling maintains the balance of the display device.

Description
BACKGROUND

The invention relates to display devices, and in particular to multi-directional adjustment display devices by positioning fillings.

Display devices, such as TVs, liquid crystal displays, and notebook screens, have become thin and light due to innovation. Not only are size and quality required, convenience and delicate appearance are also important for customers.

Slim-sized displays are often used in an office or home work area. Some users would like to move the display to any place he or she likes, places such as a table or carpet in a living room. Since the conventional display is tall and wide with a small stand, however, the display is easily tilted and falls down if the display is disposed on a place other than on an ordinary desk. Thus, it is usually inconvenient for most users. Additionally, some conventional displays have an angle-adjusting portion to slightly adjust the angle thereof. However, the conventional adjusting mechanism is an engagement or insertion means which restrict the tilt angle of the screen.

SUMMARY

Display devices are provided. An exemplary embodiment of a display device with multi-directional adjustment comprises a main body and a spherical base. The spherical base is connected to the main body, to support the main body. The spherical base is hollow and comprises a filling filled therein for adjusting angles of the display device, and the filling maintains the balance of the display device.

The spherical base further comprises an upper cover and a circular bottom portion. The main body is disposed on the upper cover, and the display device further comprises a containing portion formed between the upper cover and the circular bottom portion for holding the filling.

The filling comprises a plurality of movable grains, held inside the circular bottom portion.

The grains take substantially 60% to 90% of the volume of the circular bottom portion.

The circular bottom portion can be made from flexible materials.

The main body comprises a first engaging portion, and the spherical base further comprises a second engaging portion. The first engaging portion is engaged with the second engaging portion to connect the main body and the spherical base.

The first engaging portion has an opening, and the second engaging portion has a locking portion; when the main body and the spherical base are connected, the locking portion is locked in the opening.

The display device comprises a liquid crystal display, television, plasma display panel, or organic light emitting display.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Display devices are provided. Some embodiments of prevent invention are described in the following. A liquid crystal display is given as an example of the invention. The embodiments can be applicable in other types of display devices such as TVs, plasma display panels (PDPs), organic light emitting displays (OLEDs), and others.

FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an embodiment of a display device 100 with multi-directional adjustment. FIG. 2A is a side view of an embodiment of the display device 100.

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2A, the display device 100 comprises a main body 10 and a spherical base 20. The main body 10 is detachably disposed on the spherical base 20 and connected thereto. The spherical base 20 for supporting the main body 10 can adjust tilt angles of the display device 100 to keep the display device 100 in balance. Details are described hereinafter.

FIG. 2B is a front view of the embodiment of the display device 100. As shown in FIG. 2B, the spherical base 20 has an arc cross-section.

In another embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2C, the spherical base 20 has a half-elliptical cross-section.

FIG. 3 is a schematic exploded view of the embodiment of a display device 100. The main body 10 comprises a first engaging portion 10, and the spherical base 20 comprises a second engaging portion 22. The first engaging portion 10 is engaged with the second engaging portion 20 to connect the main body 10 and the spherical base 20.

The spherical base 20 further comprises an upper cover 201, a lower cover 203, and a circular bottom portion 202. The main body 10 is disposed on the upper cover 201, which can comprise metal to increase total strength thereof. The lower cover 203 can comprise plastics. The upper cover 201, the lower cover 203, and the circular bottom portion 202 can be connected via a plurality of screws 26.

In another embodiment, the upper cover 201, the lower cover 203, and the circular bottom portion 202 can be integrally formed.

The spherical base 20 further comprises a filling filled therein. The display device 100 further comprises a containing portion 24 formed between the upper cover 201 and the circular bottom portion 202 for holding the filling. In an embodiment, the filling comprises a plurality of grains 25, movably disposed in the hollow circular bottom portion 202. Additionally, since the circular bottom portion 202 has an arc-shape, when the filling is moved to a position therein, the arrangement of the grains 25 maintains the balance of the display device 100 such that the display device 100 can be adjusted to any tilt angle according to demand.

Note that the grains 25 can not fully fill the containing portion 24. The grains 25 can take substantially 60% to 90% of the volume of the circular bottom portion 202, preferably between 75% and 85%. The spherical base 20 comprises two holes 231 and 232 corresponding to each other, and a plastic cover 23. After assembly of the spherical base 20, the grains 25 can be filled therein through the holes 231 and 232. The quantities and the ratio of the grains 25 can also be adjusted via the holes 231 and 232. The plastic cover 23 covers the holes 231 and 232 to keep the grains 25 in the circular bottom portion 202.

Note that the circular bottom portion 202 can comprise flexible or rigid materials.

Furthermore, FIGS. 4A to 4C are different side views of the display device 100. As shown in FIG. 4A, the display device 100 is positioned upright. When a user adjusts the display device 100 to a specific tilt angle, the grains 25 move in a direction as shown by an arrow of FIG. 4B to a balanced position. The display device 100 can maintain at the specific tilt angle. Moreover, as shown in FIG. 4C, when the user moves the display device 100 to another tilt angle, the grains 25 move in a direction of the arrow to another balanced position. Thus, the display device 100 can be maintained and viewed at any tilt angle.

Hence, the tilt angle of the display device can be adjusted by movement and the filling in the circular bottom portion, and the display device can be viewed from multiple directions.

While the invention has been described by way of example and in terms of preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto. To the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and similar arrangements (as would be apparent to those skilled in the art). Therefore, the scope of the appended claims should be accorded the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and similar arrangements.

Claims

1. A display device with multi-directional adjustment, comprising:

a main body; and
a spherical base, connected to the main body, to support the main body; the spherical base is hollow and comprises a filling filled therein for adjusting angles of the display device, and the filling maintains the balance of the display device.

2. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the spherical base further comprises an upper cover and a circular bottom portion; the main body is disposed on the upper cover, and the display device further comprises a containing portion formed between the upper cover and the circular bottom portion for holding the filling.

3. The display device as in claim 2, wherein the filling comprises a plurality of movable grains, disposed inside the circular bottom portion.

4. The display device as in claim 3, wherein the grains take substantially 60% to 90% of the volume of the circular bottom portion.

5. The display device as in claim 2, wherein the circular bottom portion is made from flexible materials.

6. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the main body comprises a first engaging portion, and the spherical base further comprises a second engaging portion; the first engaging portion is engaged with the second engaging portion to connect the main body and the spherical base.

7. The display device as in claim 6, wherein the first engaging portion has an opening, and the second engaging portion has a locking portion; when the main body and the spherical base are connected, the locking portion is locked in the opening.

8. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the display device comprises a liquid crystal display.

9. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the display device comprises a television.

10. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the display device comprises a plasma display panel.

11. The display device as in claim 1, wherein the display device comprises an organic light emitting display.
