Finishing joint and method

A finishing joint and method to install the finishing joint forming an impenetrable seal around of a bath fitting and to wall edge to prevent the water from infiltrating between the bath fitting and the standard bathtub. The structural body member is fixed by means of a series of screws underneath the bath fitting and to wall edge before to be installed thereon a standard bathtub. Again the structural body member includes a flexible band located at its rear portion, a front opening to receive the edge of the bath fitting, a groove to engage a central fold of a finishing rigid band, and before of engaging the finishing rigid band therein the groove the user may apply a light line of silicone above and in bottom of the structural body member.

Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to joints and, more particularly, to a finishing joint and method to install the finishing joint forming an impenetrable seal around of a bath fitting and to wall edge.

2. Description of the Related Art

Many flowable silicone products are capable of sealing joints. These products are disadvantageous with respect to the preferred application of the present invention, in that it requires to be replaced because of the mould and/or the change of color.

Accordingly, it is desirable to provide a finishing joint which will intalled to form an impenetrable seal around of the bath fitting and to wall edge to prevent the water from infiltrating between the bath fitting and the standard bathtub.

Of course, it is also desirable that the finishing joint be capable to be adapted to a kitchen or vanity counter, and to a shower.

A search of prior art records has unveiled the following patent:

1. U.S. Pat. No. 5,902,444 issued in 1999 to Falkner and al.

As can be seen the patent to Falkner describes a flowable silicone product and process for producing and applying that product in order to create an impenetrable seal between a new bathtub liner and an old bathtub.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

More specifically, in accordance with the present invention, there is provided a finishing joint and method to install the finishing joint forming an impenetrable seal around of the bath fitting and to wall edge.

The finishing joint comprises:

means for installing the finishing joint around of the bath fitting and to wall edge to prevent the water from infiltrating between the bath fitting and the standard bathtub;

a structural body member having a front opening, a groove, a flexible band, and a finishing rigid band; and

characterized in that:

said structural body member is fixed by means of a series of screws underneath the bath fitting and to wall edge before to be installed thereon a standard bathtub; wherein said structural body member includes a flexible band located at its rear portion, a front opening to receive the edge of the bath fitting, a groove to engage a central fold of the finishing rigid band and before of engaging said finishing rigid band therein said groove the user may apply a light line of silicone above and in bottom of said structural body member.

The objects, advantages and other features of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading of the following non restrictive description of preferred embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the installation of the finishing joint around of a bath fitting and to wall edge.

FIG. 2 is a plan view of the finishing joint installed to the bath fitting which is laid out on a standard bathtub;

FIG. 3a is a perspective view of the finishing joint of FIG. 2;

FIG. 3b is an exploded view of FIG. 3a.

FIG. 4 is a plan view of the finishing joint installed to the standard bathtub;

FIG. 5a is a perspective view of the finishing joint of FIG. 4; and

FIG. 5b is an exploded view of FIG. 5a.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to the drawings and FIGS. 1 to 3 in particular, the finishing joint comprises:

means for installing the finishing joint around of a bath fitting (4) and to wall edge to prevent the water from infiltrating between the bath fitting and the standard bathtub;

a structural body member (1) having a front opening, a groove, a flexible band (3), and a finishing rigid band (2); and

characterized in that:

said structural body member (1) is fixed by means of a series of screws (8) underneath the bath fitting (4) and by screws (7) to wall edge (6) before to be installed thereon a standard bathtub (5)—as shown in dotted lines—;

wherein said structural body member (1) includes a flexible band (3) located at its rear portion, the front opening to receive the edge of the bath fitting (4), the groove to engage a central fold of the finishing rigid band (2) and before of engaging said finishing rigid band (2) therein said groove the user may apply a light line of silicone above and in bottom of said structural body member (1).

Referring to the drawings and FIGS. 4 to 5 in particular, it is shown that the lower portion of a structural body member (10) is cut so as to be installed to the standard bathtub (5).

Whereas, the present invention has been described in relation to the drawings attached hereto, it should be understood that other and further modifications, apart from those shown or suggested herein, may be made within the spirit and scope of this invention.

Claims
