Description

The invention relates to a device for display under a transparent rigid surface, comprising a deformable plastic film.

The invention relates in particular to a device comprising a deformable plastic film forming a back panel for display under a transparent rigid surface, such as glass framing.

The invention also relates to a box lid.

PRIOR ART

In the field of framing under a transparent rigid surface, such as passe-partout mounting, those skilled in the art know how to hold a substantially flat object, such as for example a photograph or a poster, by pressure between a back panel and a transparent surface such as a pane of glass.

In this type of display, the back panel is usually a flat surface consisting of a rigid material, such as a board or an equivalent material, to apply a pressure on the object to be displayed in order to hold the object against the glass. If this pressure is insufficient, the object to be displayed slips. In the field of glass framing, it is important that the object to be displayed is held in the required place to obtain the required visual effect.

The object to be displayed is usually placed centrally on the transparent surface. This placement may be different when there are several objects to be displayed.

Unfortunately, the type of glass framing of the prior art cannot be used to display objects other than those that are substantially flat such as a photograph, a poster, a lithograph, a drawing, etc.

Any person wishing to display an object that is not substantially flat would not think of displaying this object under glass. Such a display would make no sense in the light of the devices of the prior art since the person displaying the object:

    • risks damaging or even breaking the transparent surface which is usually glass;
    • risks damaging or even breaking the back panel;
    • risks damaging the object to be displayed, particularly if the latter is fragile.

Also, the person wishing to display this object will have great difficulty in adjusting the retention means fixedly attaching the back panel to the transparent surface. These retention means, by their function, do not allow themselves to be laid out easily when the object to be displayed is not substantially flat, particularly since the board warps.

It would be possible to display an object that is not substantially flat by setting the rigid back panel apart from the transparent rigid surface and by fixedly attaching, for example by bonding or gluing, the object to be displayed onto the rigid back panel. However, this solution is not satisfactory because it would damage the object to be displayed and would not allow the object to be reused after the display.

PURPOSES OF THE INVENTION

The main purpose of the invention is to resolve the novel technical problem consisting in the supply of a device forming a frame back panel for framing an object that is not substantially flat beneath a transparent rigid surface such as a pane of glass.

For this purpose, the invention makes it possible in particular for the person wishing to frame the object that is not substantially flat to easily position the retention means such as the metal clips to ensure that the back panel is fixedly attached to the transparent rigid surface such as a pane of glass.

A further object of the invention is to supply a back panel that is not likely to be damaged, or even broken, nor to damage, or even break, the transparent surface which is usually glass, during the framing of the object that is not substantially flat. The invention also has the purpose of not damaging the object to be displayed and of not leaving any mark on this object after the framing system has been dismantled.

A further purpose of the invention is to use products directly available off the shelf, particularly in order to reduce the production costs.

A further purpose of the invention is to resolve the technical problem consisting in supplying a device that can be used as a frame back for the framing under glass of an object having a length or width lying between 0.5 and 200 cm that is not substantially flat.

Finally the purpose of the invention is to resolve the new technical problem consisting in supplying a device that can be used for the display of an object that is not substantially flat inside a box lid comprising a transparent rigid surface, particularly in a simple manner, while ensuring a safe and reliable display and retention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

According to the present invention, “an object that is not substantially flat” is defined as an object whose thickness is preferably greater than 1 mm, more preferably greater than 1 cm.

According to the present invention, “framing under glass” or “display under glass” is understood to be any framing system used by transparency to display an object, particularly an industrial product. These framing systems are not limited particularly to panes of glass, such as mineral or organic panes, but are aimed at any transparent, even translucent, surface known to those skilled in the art of framing. These surfaces also include transparent or translucent coloured surfaces. A glass or a plexiglas® is usually used, in the knowledge that what is important is to have a sufficient rigidity so that the transparent surface does not deform substantially under the pressure exerted by the object to be displayed that is held in place by the deformable plastic film. The present invention has made it possible to solve the novel technical problem set out hereinabove and the various technical problems also set out hereinabove.

The deformable plastic film according to the present invention embraces stretchable films and extensible films.

According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to the use of a deformable plastic film to form an element of a back panel for display under glass.

Advantageously, the deformable plastic film is a film made of polyurethane, polyethylene (low density polyethylene), polypropylene, polybutylene or a stretchable film, such as a stretchable film for palletization, this film preferably being a polyurethane film.

Advantageously, the deformable plastic film has a thickness lying between 100 and 1000 μm, preferably between 100 and 400 μm to optimize the transparency of the deformable plastic film.

According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a method of producing a frame back panel comprising the following steps:

    • making at least one recess of a rigid back panel for a frame, such as a frame back panel made of fibreboard, pulp board, wood board, medium density fibreboard, corrugated flyweight board, flyweight board (flyweight board made of expanded polystyrene), plywood, or laminate board;
    • fixedly attaching a deformable plastic film as previously defined onto the rigid back panel in order to cover the recess.

The deformable plastic film is advantageously fixedly attached thanks to the use of a fixed attachment means, such as a glue or a double-sided adhesive surface.

According to the present invention, the rigid back panel is defined as being rigid in comparison with the deformable plastic film. The rigid back panel for a frame corresponds to the back panel according to the prior art, usually made of board like those described hereinabove. Preferably the back panel consists of a board that is fairly thick (2 to 4 mm), even very thick (4 to 5 mm) and sufficiently rigid to serve as a hanging support to the assembly once mounted and so that this back can be used to position the retention means. The retention means are used to exert a pressure between the back panel and the rigid transparent surface to keep them fixedly attached. The retention means are the retention means known to those skilled in the art which are usually metallic, such as clips, plastic or metal corners, a rigid binding, or a strip into which the transparent rigid surface and the back panel according to the present invention are slid. The contact area between the transparent rigid surface and the recessed rigid back panel should preferably be at least 5 mm to allow for the installation of the retention means.

The use of a rigid back panel as a support for the deformable plastic film makes it possible to avoid damaging the deformable plastic film and to fixedly attach the back panel according to the present invention to the transparent surface by using the known fixed attachment methods of the prior art.

The back panel according to the present invention is fixedly held on the transparent surface, which is usually a pane of glass, by a retention means, which is often a plurality of metal pieces placed along the outer periphery of the back panel in sufficient numbers to exert a pressure holding the object to be displayed between the back panel and the transparent surface (glass).

These retention means are positioned according to the known methods of the prior art, that is to say for example by spacing each attachment means approximately 15 cm apart, so as to ensure a relatively uniform pressure when the back panel is applied to the pane of glass.

Advantageously, according to the method of the present invention, the deformable plastic film is applied to the recessed rigid back panel with the aid of a fixed attachment means, such as a glue, or a double-sided adhesive surface.

According to a variant of the present invention, the deformable plastic film has the same dimensions as the dimensions of the rigid back panel comprising a recess.

According to another variant of the present invention, the deformable plastic film has dimensions smaller than the dimensions of the rigid back panel comprising a recess, but greater than the dimensions of the recess itself.

The recess made on the rigid back panel is usually substantially square or substantially rectangular. It may however have a different shape. The recessed rigid back panel has a dimension D (FIG. 9) usually lying between 2 and 10 cm.

The dimensions of the back panel depend on the object to be displayed: the larger the dimensions of an object, the more preferable it will be to have a back panel also having large dimensions, and vice versa.

According to a variant of the present invention, the rigid frame back panel may comprise several recesses. In this case the device forming the frame back panel according to the present invention may comprise a single deformable film to cover all the recesses but may also comprise several deformable plastic films, each one used to cover at least one recess.

According to a third aspect, the present invention relates to a device forming a frame back panel (8) for framing under glass, characterized in that it comprises a deformable plastic film (1) held by a fixed attachment means (3) on a rigid frame back panel (2), such as fibreboard, pulp board, wood board, medium density fibreboard, corrugated flyweight board, flyweight board made of expanded polystyrene, plywood or laminate board, the deformable plastic film (1) being disposed so as to cover the recess.

Advantageously, the deformable plastic film (1) has a thickness lying between 100 and 1000 μm, preferably between 100 and 400 μm, a length lying between 1 and 200 cm, and a width lying between 1 and 200 cm.

According to a variant, the deformable plastic film is transparent or translucent.

According to another variant, the deformable plastic film is coloured. These variants may be combined.

The thickness of the object to be displayed is limited by the limit of deformation of the deformable plastic film. The length and width of the deformable plastic film will have to be adapted to suit the volume of the object to be displayed, particularly to suit the thickness of the object. The thickness of the film also takes account of the presence of sharp corners on the object to be displayed so that the film is not damaged or torn.

The deformable plastic film according to the present invention may deform to a certain degree without suffering damage, that is to say that the plastic film returns to its initial position after deformation. Beyond a certain deformation, that is to say when the thickness of the object to be displayed is relatively large, the plastic film after deformation returns to its initial position but keeps a slight trace of the deformation. In the latter case, it is possible to reuse the frame back panel according to the present invention, but the user may decide not to reuse it for an aesthetic reason.

The present invention, according to a fourth aspect, relates to a device comprising a polyurethane film of a thickness lying between 100 and 400 μm, the film being fixedly attached to a rigid back panel, such as board, preferably fibreboard, comprising a recess making it possible to display at least one industrial product, such as a perfume bottle, spectacles, a book, a wallet, the film and the back panel being fixedly attached by a fixed attachment means, such as glue or a double-sided adhesive surface, so that the film covers the recess.

The device according to the present invention relates particularly to a back panel for framing under glass making it possible to display an object that is not substantially flat. These objects are of all types and may for example be bottles such as perfume bottles, spectacles, wallets, pens, books, mobile telephones, luxury products, etc. The device according to the present invention can be used to display one or more objects. The dimensions of the device according to the present invention are not limited and may vary depending on the object to be displayed.

Advantageously, the device according to the present invention forming a frame back panel is used for a display under glass of an object, such as an industrial product, that is not substantially flat.

Advantageously, the device according to the present invention makes it possible to benefit from the known advantages of framing under glass to display objects that are not substantially flat. These advantages are mainly the protection of the displayed object and the limitation of reflections (particularly when using non-reflective glass).

So it is that the present invention, according to a fifth aspect, relates to a device for framing under glass comprising a back panel as previously defined.

The present invention, according to a sixth aspect, relates to a device for framing under glass comprising an industrial product held in place by pressure between a transparent or translucent surface, such as a pane of glass, and a device forming a back panel for a frame as previously defined.

The device for framing under glass according to the various aspects of the present invention may or may not comprise a frame.

The technique of framing under glass consists in having a document on a back panel and in protecting it with a pane (transparent surface), with or without passe-partout. This technique makes it possible in the context of the present invention to have an object that is not substantially flat.

The passe-partout is a window made in the framing system to set off the object to be displayed. It may be made of drawing paper, bristol board or more or less thick board, even very thick board (4 to 5 mm).

The back panel, the passe-partout, the object to be displayed and the pane may be assembled in different ways known to those skilled in the art by using retention means such as:

    • the clips that are the fastest and most effective means of mounting something under glass. These clips may be installed with a key, or be fitted to the board in a small notch (swiss clips);
    • plastic or metal corners;
    • adhesive tapes.

According to another aspect, the present invention relates to a box lid comprising first a transparent rigid surface, such as a pane of glass, and secondly an element comprising the deformable plastic film according to the present invention. Advantageously, this makes it possible to display an object that is not substantially flat in the lid of a box, thus producing a completely original display.

Thus, the invention relates to a device forming a box lid for the display of an object that is not substantially flat, the said device forming a box lid comprising:

first, a transparent box lid comprising a transparent rigid surface, such as a pane of glass, fixedly attached to a box lid and,

secondly, a lid base comprising a deformable plastic film, as previously defined, fixedly attached to a base support for displaying an object that is not substantially flat inside the said device forming a transparent box lid, the said object being capable of being placed between the transparent rigid surface and the deformable plastic film.

Advantageously, the transparent box lid comprises at least one retention means, the said retention means interacting with at least one side flap of the lid base to keep the lid base fixedly attached to the transparent box lid, particularly so that a displayed object does not move substantially between the transparent rigid surface and the deformable plastic film.

The invention further relates to a box lid base comprising a base support comprising at least one recess, the said box lid base also comprising a deformable plastic film, as previously defined, fixedly attached to a base support, the said base support also comprising at least two side flaps intended to keep the box lid base fixedly attached to a transparent box lid comprising a transparent rigid surface to display an object that is not substantially flat inside the said device forming a box lid.

Advantageously, the box lid base comprises at least two side flaps disposed on two opposite sides of the lid base.

The shape of the lid base is adapted to the shape of the transparent box lid. According to a variant, the transparent box lid is polygonal in shape. According to another variant, the lid is round or oval.

Advantageously, the base support has a polygonal shape such as for example a square shape, rectangular shape, hexagonal shape or octagonal shape. Advantageously, the base support has a round or oval shape.

The box lid, for example made of board, comprises a recess. A transparent rigid surface with a surface area greater than the surface area of the recess is fixedly attached to the said box lid.

Advantageously, the deformable plastic film, as previously defined, is fixedly attached to the base support, for example made of board, recessed by at least the dimension of an object to be displayed, the said deformable plastic film covering at least the recessed surface, and the said base support also comprising at least two side flaps. The side flaps are used in interaction with a retention means placed on the aforementioned transparent box lid to keep the transparent box lid and the lid base fixedly attached; thus the displayed object does not move substantially between the transparent rigid surface and the deformable plastic film, when it is placed between the two, and the base support is held fixedly attached to the transparent lid.

It is possible to identify in this figure the presence of a passe-partout (96) which is optional.

FIG. 10 represents a box lid (100) that can be used to display an object that is not substantially flat.

To produce a transparent box lid (109), it is possible to cut out a box lid (107) made in a conventional manner having a front wall (107′) and side walls (117) defining an internal space (137) making it possible to house therein at least one object to be displayed such as the object (110). In the box lid (107), made for example out of board, a cut-out is made to form a window (127) and define a surface of fixed attachment on the front wall (107′), to fixedly attach thereto via a fixed attachment means (106), such as a double-sided adhesive surface, a transparent rigid surface (105) intended to form a portion of the front wall (107′) of the transparent box lid (109). The said transparent box lid (109) comprises, on at least two side walls (117), preferably on all the side walls, at least one retention means (104) used to keep the transparent box lid (109) and the lid base (108) fixedly attached.

The retention means (104) consists for example of a board element having a thickness substantially equal to the thickness of the side flaps (118) of the lid base (108). The retention means (104) is for example fixedly attached to the transparent box lid (109) by bonding.

According to a particular embodiment, the retention means (104) forms an integral part of the side wall (117) of the box lid (107) via an extension which is here folded towards the inside of the side wall (117) and held in place by a fixed attachment means.

The lid base (108) comprises the previously described deformable plastic film (101) and a means of support (102). The means of support (102) comprises a recess intended for the display of the object that is not substantially flat (110). The means of support (102) comprises side flaps (118) intended to keep the lid base (108) and the transparent box lid (109) fixedly attached, interacting with the retention means (104). The lid base (108) comprises a means of fixed attachment (103), such as for example a double-sided adhesive surface, fixedly attaching the deformable plastic film (101) to the means of support (102).

The side flaps (118) of the means of support (102) are advantageously made by a partial cut-out parallel to the edges of the support (102) along an axis perpendicular to the said means of support (102), such as for example along fold lines (112).

Advantageously, to position an object within the lid (100) according to the display, the object (110) to be displayed is placed on the internal portion (105′) of the transparent rigid surface (105) of the transparent box lid (109) in order to be positioned inside the transparent box lid (109). Then, the lid base (108) is positioned to keep the object (110) in place using the deformable plastic film (101) with sufficient pressure that the object (110) does not move substantially between the transparent rigid surface (105) and the deformable plastic film (101) when a movement is made. To position the lid base (108), it is possible for example to position a side flap (118) so that the side flap (118) is held between a positioning means (104) and the front wall (107′) of the box lid (107). The same procedure is followed for the other side flaps (118). In this way, the lid base (108) is held fixedly attached to the transparent box lid (109), the side flaps (118) of the lid base (108) being immobilized between the retention means (104), the front wall (107′) and the side wall (117) of the transparent box lid (109).

Advantageously, the lid base support (102) and the box lid (107) are made of board.

FIG. 11 represents the transparent box lid (109) and the lid base (108) held fixedly attached by the interaction of the retention means (104) with the side flaps (118) of the lid base (108). It is thus possible to display an object (110) that is not substantially flat.

FIG. 12 represents the transparent box lid (109) and the lid base (108) keeping fixedly attached an object (110) that is not substantially flat. The lid according to the present invention (100) may be positioned on a box base (150) as shown.

Other objects, features and advantages of the invention will clearly appear to those skilled in the art after reading the explanatory description which makes reference to examples that are given for illustrative purposes only and which could in no way limit the scope of the invention.

The examples form an integral part of the present invention and any feature appearing to be novel relative to any prior art from the description taken as a whole, including the examples, forms an integral part of the invention in its function and in its generality.

Thus, each example has a general significance.

Exemplary Embodiment 1: Method of Producing the Device Forming a Frame Back Panel for a Three-Dimensional Object

A polyurethane deformable plastic film having a thickness lying between 100 and 400 μm is cut out so as to have a length of approximately 40 cm and a width of approximately 30 cm. This film is applied to a fibreboard having a thickness of approximately 3 mm, and substantially the same dimensions in width and length. The recess made by cutting out, according to the methods known to those skilled in the art, in the fibreboard has a length of approximately 35 cm and a width of approximately 25 cm so as to leave only a strip of fibreboard approximately 5 cm wide. This surface must be sufficient to allow the retention means to be attached. The deformable plastic film is fitted to the fibreboard by double-sided adhesive tapes (fixed attachment means) which have been previously placed on the fibreboard.

The dimensions of the frame back panel according to this embodiment of the present invention make it possible to display an object having a thickness of up to approximately 7 cm.

Exemplary Embodiment 2: Device Forming a Transparent Box Lid for a Three-Dimensional Object

The dimensions indicated are for illustration purposes only and in no way limit the dimensions of the box lid.

A transparent box lid is made in a board box lid having a length and a width of approximately 30 cm making it possible to receive the lid base described above in its internal portion. The box lid is recessed in its front wall to make a recess having a length and a width of approximately 25 cm in order to leave only a strip of board approximately 5 cm wide, the said strip of board being used for positioning fixed attachment means such as a double-sided adhesive surface to hold a transparent rigid surface such as a pane of glass which has as its dimensions a length and a width of approximately 25 cm. The retention means is then bonded to the side walls of the box lid, the said retention means being made of board of a thickness substantially equal to that of the side flaps of the lid base support. In this manner, it is possible to produce a transparent box lid.

In parallel, a deformable plastic film made of polyurethane having a thickness lying between 100 and 400 μm is cut out so as to have a length and a width of approximately 30 cm. This film is applied to a lid base support made of board, having a thickness of approximately 2 mm, and substantially the same dimensions in width and in length as the deformable plastic film so that the assembly is suitable to be housed within the transparent box lid. The board forming the lid base support, preferably having a square shape, comprises chamfered corners thus forming an octagon. Side flaps are made by partially cutting out the board forming the lid base support, particularly along fold lines parallel to the edges of the base support. The board forming the lid base support comprises a recess made by cutting out, according to the methods known to those skilled in the art, having a length and a width of approximately 27 cm so as to leave only a strip of board approximately 3 cm wide. The deformable plastic film is fixedly attached to the board by double-sided adhesive tapes (fixed attachment means) which have been previously placed on the said board, to obtain a lid base.

The dimensions of the lid according to this embodiment of the present invention are used to display for example an object having a thickness of up to approximately 5 cm.

Then, the lid base is fixedly attached to the box lid by inserting a first side flap between the front wall of the transparent box lid and the side wall of the transparent box lid, the said side flap being held in position by the retention means of the transparent box lid.

The procedure is the same for the other side flaps. This produces a fixed attachment between the lid base and the transparent box lid making it possible to hold an object, that is not substantially flat, between the transparent rigid surface and the deformable plastic film when this object is present.
