BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

There is no claim regarding federally sponsored research.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Description of Related Art

Reversible clothing is known in the art. U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,182,296, 5,204,995, and 4,481,683 all disclose various types of reversible garments. Reversible garments are designed such that the two surfaces of the garment have a different pattern, color, or texture. Therefore, the user is provided with two choices of pattern, color, or fabric texture with each side of the garment.

Some types of reversible garments are constructed using two different types of fabrics. The two fabrics are sewn together such that a different fabric faces outward when the garment is turned inside out and vice versa. Other reversible garments have been designed using a two-sided, single fabric. By utilizing a single fabric that is lightweight, significantly reduces a major environmental issue associated with manufacturing jeans—pollution. Consider the impact of one pair of reversible jeans for men and women compared with two traditional pairs of jeans. The amounts of arable land, water, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, thousands of tons of chemicals used to make the dye to color the cotton blue, copper, and detergents used in manufacturing jeans will be significantly reduced, thereby reducing pollution on a worldwide scale. Another problem commonly found in reversible pants concerns the difficulty in using belts or other fastening devices to secure the pants to the wearer. Belts, buttons, or zippers that are accessible from one side of the garment must be just as easily accessible when the pants are reversed. Similarly, pockets used in the pants must be easily accessible when either side of the fabric is outward facing. Further, the pants must be easily accessible when either side of the fabric is outward facing. Furthermore, the pockets of the reversible garment must not cause or increase any bulkiness in dual fabric configurations. Furthermore, the reversible garment must not cause or increase any overall bulkiness, and must be lightweight as to ensure maximum comfort to the wearer.

What is needed is an improved reversible garment that addresses the aforementioned problems and provides the aforementioned desirable features.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A reversible garment for covering the bottom portion of at least the waist and upper thighs of the wearer made for both men and women, which is a new and useful improvement.

The denim material used to make the reversible jeans is both lightweight and uniquely stylish. The garment material used is darker in color on the first side and lighter on the second side. The first and second sides of the material used for the reversible jeans have a weathered and worn look. The reversible jeans give the illusion of being able to see the actual threads in the material. The material is slightly more faded in certain areas than in others. The second side of the reversible jeans uses the darker material for the front pockets and the rear pocket, which are sewn onto the second side of the garment. The waist band and the bottom hem are darker in color than the rest of the material on the second side.

The stitching on both sides of the jeans appears as original stitching. The thread used for stitching on the pockets, seams, belt loops, pockets, and fly mechanism is comprised of more than one color on the garment, further adding to the new improvement of the reversible jeans.

The seams are finished on both sides, utilizing more than one color of thread.

The material and design of the reversible jeans alleviates the problem of the material bunching and alleviates any bulkiness to the garment. The reversible jeans do not have a bulky look or feel to them.

The reversible jeans have a universal zipper that can be zipped up and down from the first side and the second side. The top portion of the universal zipper can be accessed from the first side and the second side of the garment, as the hand held portion of the universal zipper easily slides across the top portion of the zipper mechanism.

The universal snap mechanism at the top portion of the waistband of the garment to secure the jeans is visible from the first side and the second side of the reversible jeans. Color variations and a weathered and worn look are attributes of the universal snap mechanism.

There is a universal belt loop that is secured at the bottom of the waistband on both sides of the garment, loops over the waistband, and is sewn down over the top portion of the waistband. This unique technique gives the appearance of separate belt loops on the first side and the second side of the garment.

The upper front portion of the first side of the reversible jeans is comprised of at least two pockets, and the upper front portion of the reversible jeans is comprised of at least two pockets. The reversible jeans also utilize an improved universal flap that enables the wearer to access the front upper pockets from the first side and the second side of the garment. The shape of the upper front pockets is unique; allowing easy access from the first side and the second side of the reversible jeans and alleviates bulkiness. The shape and stitching of the upper front pockets are unique and add style and flair to the reversible jeans.

There is at least one pocket on the rear right side of the first side and at least one pocket on the rear right side of the second side of the reversible jeans. The stitching on the first side and the second side of the garment appears to be original stitching. There is one rear pocket on the right hand side of the first side and one rear pocket on the right side of the second side of the reversible jeans. There is no pocket on the left rear side of the first side and no pocket on the left rear side of the second side; instead, there is shadow stitching on the left rear pocket that shows through on the first side and shadow stitching on the left rear pocket that shows through on the second side. The shadow effect of the stitching, as well as the stitching design on the rear right pockets, is unique and adds improvement to the reversible jeans.

The reversible jeans of the present invention are fashionable, comfortable, and perfect for today's on-the-go market. The overall appearance is substantially the same with either side out, with the exception of color and color combinations, and the reversible jeans have good structural integrity throughout, with no bulky or uncomfortable areas in the reversible jeans resulting from the reversibility.

One pair of reversible jeans for men and women compared to two pairs of traditional jeans will significantly reduce pollution to the environment by significantly reducing the usage of chemicals, dyes, detergents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Thereby, also conserving fertile land in third world countries that would be better utilized for growing food, and conserving valuable drinking water resources that would otherwise be used to irrigate cotton fields. Conservation efforts to the environmental are a growing concern to the world, as all things are connected. By wearing reversible jeans for men and women, the wearer becomes environmental conscience.
