Table with inclined work surface
A table has a work surface that may incline in a number of different angles. The inclination is provided at one end of the work surface about a pivot at the other end of the work surface.
None.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the InventionThe present invention is a table having a work surface, which may be inclined and supported, at several angles with respect to the horizontal.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is a table having a work surface, which can be inclined from horizontal to approximately 80°. The table has an open space beneath the work surface so that the user's legs can comfortably fit beneath the work surface when the user is in a sitting position. The table is constructed with two side supports, which are cross-braced at one end to form a stable base. This creates an open space between the side supports and the other end of the supports. A work surface is pivotally attached to the tops of both side supports at points in proximity to the open space. The work surface also pivots on two support arms attached to the bottom of the work surface at points in proximity to the cross braced end of the base. These arms hold the work surface at adjustable angles with respect to the horizontal. The work surface pivots upward and arms hold the surface at the desired angle. The arms have a plurality of apertures therein corresponding to different angles of work surface support. The apertures receive pins, which hold the work surface at the desired angle by the pin against the tops of the side support.
A principal object of the invention is to provide a work table having a work surface which may be inclined at different angles with respect to the horizontal.
A further object of the invention is the provision of table of the class described which may be used by a person in a sitting or a standing position.
The foregoing, as well as further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from a review of the following detailed description of my invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The working surface is pivotally mounted to the upper horizontal members at 8. The structure of the pivot mechanism is shown in
As shown in
As shown in
It will be understood that the pivot 8 and the angle bracket 9 may be located on the exterior of the members 1 and 2 or internally thereon for appearance. It will be further understood that while only one of the structures of
The invention provides an easily adjustable and moveable table for use at different positions.
Further modifications to the apparatus of the invention may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention; accordingly, what is sought to be protected is set forth in the appended claims.
Claims
1. A table comprising a work surface having two ends, one of said ends being capable of being raised relative to the other of said ends, support means mounted to said work surface for supporting said work surface at a desired distance above a floor, pivot means attached to said work surface and to said support means in proximity to the other of said ends to enable said raising, and means attached to said work surface in proximity to said raised end for adjustably supporting said raised end at different angles.
2. The table of claim 1 wherein said support means includes a pair of supports.
3. The table of claim 2 wherein said pivot means includes two brackets attached to said work surface and a first side bracket attached to one of said supports and a second side bracket attached to the other of said supports, and pin means attaching each of said brackets to respective ones of said side brackets.
4. The table of claim 3 wherein said means for adjustably supporting said raised end includes a pair of brackets attached to said work surface, a pair of arms pivotally attached to respective ones of said brackets, each of said arm having a plurality of apertures formed corresponding to different angles of elevation of said raised end, and pin means for mounting in said apertures to hold said raised end at the desired angle by a portion of said pin means resting on said supports.
5. A table having a working surface which is angularly adjustable comprising: a work surface having two ends, one of said ends being capable of being raised above the other of said ends, a pair of supports attached to said work surface for supporting said work surface above a floor, pivot means attached to said work surface in proximity to one of said ends for enabling said work surface to pivot about said end; adjustable arm means attached to said work surface in proximity to the other of said ends for adjustable supporting said end about said pivot means, said arm means including a plurality of apertures formed therein corresponding to different angles of inclination, and pin means cooperating with said apertures and said supports for mounting within said apertures and resting on said supports to hold said work surface at the desired angle.
