Hanger with decorative member
A hanger for hanging an object comprising a body having means for attaching at least one interchangeable member and a hook for suspending the object is described.
The present invention relates generally to devices for displaying objects, particularly devices used to hang an object that can also display a decorative member.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONVarious hanger devices have been used for hanging objects, such as artwork, photographs, calendars, and the like. Some hangers have a body portion that is secured to a surface, such as a wall, and may also have a hook attached to the body portion. These hangers may be formed from one piece or assembled as separate pieces. The hook portion typically suspends an object by hanging the object on the directly hook, or by attaching a second securing device, such as a clip, which suspends the object from the hook. The body of the hanger is sometimes attached to a wall, but may be attached to other surfaces, such as a metal surface with the use of a magnet. Hooks may range from simple items, such as a nail, to elaborately formed pieces that may include curves and flourishes.
A hanger must be securely attached to the surface such that the hanger holds the object without the object and or the hanger detaching from the surface. The object may have a preformed hole or a user may create a hole in the object to use the hook portion of the hanger to display the object. Alternatively, a clip may be attached to the hanger to display the object without the need for a hole.
Some hangers are used to hang typically flat items of interest, such as artwork, pictures, photographs, calendars and the like. These hangers may be as simple as a nail for objects with preformed holes; objects without holes require a clip to secure the object without creating a hole to affix the object to a surface, such as a wail. Users sometimes desire to attach an object to a metal surface, such as a file cabinet, refrigerator, or other office or home metal display area. Hanging an object on a metal surface requires a magnet strong enough to hold the weight of the calendar. Other surfaces, such as cloth and wood require other types of fastening mechanisms.
Existing hangers are usually drab. The object typically hangs below the hanger, leaving a portion of the hanger exposed to view. Many users desire a more attractive hanger to liven their environment. Some users desire embellishments that denote something of interest to the user, such as organizational affiliation, hobbies, special occasions, seasons, holidays, and the like. A need exists for a hanger that hangs an object that can also display a decorative member.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is a hanger comprising a body having means to fasten the hanger to a surface, such as a wall. The body has a first and a second side surface. The first side surface of the body has means for releasably attaching at least one interchangeable member. The member may be ornamental. The present invention comprises a hook that extends from the first side surface for hanging an object. Alternatively, the present invention includes a clip having a first end with an opening corresponding to the hook and a second end used to releasably secure the object.
The present invention further comprises a kit including the hanger described above and a set of interchangeable members. The set comprises a selection of members grouped by a theme.
