Sleeper bag garment
A garment having a layer of predetermined clothing having a first section and second section connected to a middle section. A portion of the top edge of the first section connects to a portion of the top edge of the middle section, and a portion of the side edge of the first section connects to a portion of the first edge of the middle section to define a first arm hole between said first section and middle section. A portion of the top edge of the second section connects to a portion of the top edge of the middle section, and a portion of the side edge of the second section connects to a portion of the second edge of the middle section to define a second arm hole between said second section and middle section. A zip fastener attaches onto the garment to releasably join the lower portion of the side edge of the second section to the lower portion of the second edge of the middle section, the bottom edge of the second section to the bottom edge of the middle section, and the lower portion of the first edge of the middle section and front edge of said first section to the front edge of the second section. In a closed position of the zip fastener, a neck hole is defined between the first arm hole and second arm hole by the relevant portions of the top edges of the first section, second section, and middle section.
1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to garments, and more particularly, this invention relates to a garment, which is an improved sleeper bag for a child.
2. Description of the Prior Art
There are several types of garment known in the prior art which is a sleeping bag for a child. One such sleeping bag is taught in U.S. Pat. No. 4,674,130 issued to Coudron. This patent teaches a children's sleeping bag having a layer of covering material which has a neck opening and a body insertion opening. The sides of the body insertion opening are removeably adhered by hook and loop fasteners so that that at least two limb openings are defined along the body insertion opening. Another blanket for an infant is taught in U.S. Pat. No. 6,839,924 issued to Sims. The blanket of Sims has a central receiving section with a first flap and second flap extending therefrom. The baby is placed on the central receiving section and the first flap wraps over the baby's right arm and torso, and the second flap wraps over the left arm, torso, and first flap and is secured to the first flap with hook and loop fasteners.
Another sleeper bag for a child known in the prior art is a bag having a pair of opposed arm holes and a neck hole. The bag has a front opening, which can be opened and closed with a zip fastener. The zip fastener extends from the middle portion of the base of the neck hole to the middle bottom edge of the bag straight down the front of the bag. A disadvantage of this sleeper bag is in the lack of ease of placing a child into the bag through the front opening.
There is no known garment in the prior art as the garment taught in the present invention.
It is a primary objective of the present invention to provide a garment which is an ideal sleeper bag for a child. It is another objective of the present invention to provide a sleeper bag for a child, which allows for a quick and easy placement of a child into the bag and simple closure of the bag with the child therein.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is a garment, which is an ideal sleeper bag for a child. The garment has a layer of predetermined clothing material having a first section and second section connected to a middle section. The first section has a front edge, side edge, and top edge, and the middle section has a bottom edge, first edge, second edge, and top edge. A portion of the top edge of the first section connects to a portion of the top edge of the middle section, and a portion of the side edge of the first section connects to a portion of the first edge of the middle section to define a first arm hole between said first section and middle section. The second section has a bottom edge, front edge, side edge, and top edge.
A tab attaches to the first section adjacent the corner of the top edge and front edge to cover a zipper head of the zip fastener when the zip fastener is in the closed position.
The first section, second section, and middle section are sized so that when the zip fastener is in the closed position, the first section and second section combined substantially covers the middle section. Also, it is important that the second section be of a larger size at least two times larger than the size of the first section to allow a child to be easily placed in the garment when the zip fastener is in a open position.
The garment according to the specifications as taught in this invention, has the zip fastener following a path along side of the garment at the bottom edges, then continuing along the side of the garment at the lower portion of the first edge of the middle section, and then crossing through the front of the garment between the front edges of the first and second section as the zip fastener is closed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSWith the above and additional objects and advantages in view, as will hereinafter appear, this invention comprises the devices, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described, by way of example, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings of a an embodiment in which:
The present invention as shown in FIGS. 1 to 6 is a garment 10 which can be used as a sleeper bag for a child. The garment has a layer of predetermined clothing material 12 which has three sections: 1.) first section 13 2.) middle section 14 and 3.) second section 15. The predetermined clothing material is not a limiting factor and may be any material known in the art suitable for being used as safely as a sleeper bag for a child.
The first section 13 is joined to the middle section 14, and the middle section 14 is joined with the second section 15. As shown in
The second section 15 has a bottom edge 28, front edge 29, side edge 30, and top edge 32. A portion of the top edge 32 of the second section 15 connects to a portion of the top edge 25 of the middle section 14, and a portion of the side edge 30 of the second section connects to a portion of the second edge 23 of the middle section 14 to define a second arm hole 33 between said second section 15 and middle section 14.
As illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 6, a zip fastener 35 attaches onto the garment 10 to extend along all of the following: 1.) the front edge 16 of the first section 13; 2.) a lower portion of the first edge 22 of the middle section 14 just below the termination of the connection between the first edge 22 of the middle section 14 with the front edge 16 of the first section 13; 3.) the bottom edge 21 of the middle section 14; 4.) the front edge 29 of the second section 15; 5.) the bottom edge 28 of the second section 15; 6.) a lower portion of the second edge 23 of the of the middle section 14; and 7.) a lower portion of the side edge 30 of the second section 15. The zip fastener 35 opens and closes the garment 10.
The first section 13 has a surface area of a first predetermined size, and the second section 15 has a surface area of a second predetermined size. The second predetermined size is at least two times larger than the first predetermined size. The middle section 14 has a surface area of a third predetermined size. As shown in the illustrations, when the zip fastener 35 is in the closed position, the first section 13 and second section 15 combined should substantially cover the middle section 14. In the illustrations shown, the first predetermined size combined with the second predetermined size is substantially equivalent to the third predetermined size. Also, it is important that the second predetermined size be at least two times larger than the first predetermined size in order for the garment to allow a child to be easily placed therein when the zip fastener is in the open position. In the illustrations shown, the second predetermined size is at least four times larger than the first predetermined size.
While an embodiment of the invention has been described and illustrated for purposes of clarity and example, it should be understood that many changes, substitutions and modifications to the described embodiment will be apparent to those having skill in the art in light of the foregoing disclosure without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention which is defined by the claims which will follow.
