Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Clothing designers have long created garments to enhance not only the size of certain body parts, but also the presentation of these parts. Undergarments, such as girdles, have been used for hundreds of years to reshape a person's figure. To a certain extent, the clothing worn can change the shape and proportions of body parts, in order to give a more desirable presentation.

U.S. Pat. No. 5,708,986 (Belardinelli) discloses an undergarment to be worn by a person on the lower torso area. The undergarment includes an opening to support each buttock of the wearer. The undergarment creates an uplifting support without flattening the buttocks. The material 30 between the openings, however, will have a flattening effect.

There is a need in the art for an undergarment that provides support for the wearer's buttocks, but still allows a natural shape. It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an undergarment enhancing the presentation of the buttocks by uplifting, but allowing a natural shape. It is another object of the invention to provide an undergarment which enhances the wearer's natural figure. It is another object of the invention to provide an undergarment that improves the appearance of the wearer.

These and other objects of the invention will become apparent after reading the disclosure of the invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An undergarment has a front panel and back panel connected to one another and having a pair of leg openings. The back panel has a central aperture that provides uplifting support, but does not flatten the buttocks. The undergarment provides support, but allows the nature shape of the wearer's figure.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a front view of the undergarment;

FIG. 2 is a back view of the undergarment; and

FIG. 3 is a side view of the undergarment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to FIG. 1, the front portion 12 of the undergarment can be seen. The front portion has a first side 14 and second side 16. The front portion also has a top edge 18 and bottom edge 19. Seen in this view are the first leg opening 32 and second leg opening 34. As can be seen from this view, the front portion of the undergarment does not differ significantly from a conventional undergarment.

The rear view of the undergarment can be seen from FIG. 2. The rear portion 22 of the undergarment has a first side edge 24 and a second side edge 26. A top edge 28 runs between the two side edges 24, 26 and a bottom edge 29 is defined between the two leg openings 32, 34. The front portion first side edge 14 is connected to the rear portion side edge 24. Likewise, the second side edge 16 of the front portion is connected to the rear portion second side edge 26. To complete the undergarment, the bottom edge 19 of the front portion connects to the bottom edge 29 of the rear portion.

The side and bottom edges can be connected to one another along a seam or the garment can be a seamless garment formed by conventional processes.

The rear portion has a central opening 45 that encircles and supports the wearer's buttocks. The opening supplies support from below the buttocks to provide an uplifting support. However, the opening prevents the flattening of the wearer's buttocks and preserves a more natural shape. The edge of the opening is reinforced to enhance the lifting ability of the garment.

FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of the undergarment having leg extensions 53 and 55 extending downwardly from the leg openings 32, 34. The leg extensions provide a firming action for the upper part of the leg below the buttocks.

The undergarment can be made of any suitable material, including natural fibers and synthetic fibers. Such fabrics include cotton, silk, polyester and nylon. Preferably, the garment is constructed from elastic fibers that expand but return to their original shape and size. The use of elastic fibers enhances the lifting aspect of the undergarment.

While the invention has been described with reference to a preferred embodiment, modifications and variations would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art without departing from the scope of the invention. The disclosure is intended to cover all such modifications and variations.
