Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a pump and, more particularly, to a compact pump.

2. Related Prior Art

Disclosed in Taiwanese Patent M267345 is a conventional pump. This conventional pump includes a cylinder 10 and a handle 30. The handle 30 always extends beyond the cylinder 10 no matter the pump is in use or not. The handle 30 occupies quite some space in addition to what the cylinder 10 occupies. That is, the smallest entire length of the pump is the length of the handle 30 plus that of the cylinder 10. The pump is bulky, and causes inconvenience for a user trying to store it.

The present invention is therefore intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

According to the present invention, a pump includes a cylinder, a nozzle connected to an end of the cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring installed at an opposite end of the cylinder, a connector connected to the rod and a handle for connection to the connector in an active position where the handle extends beyond the cylinder and in an idle position where the handle shields the cylinder.

The primary advantage of the pump of the present invention is that when the pump is not in use, the handle shields the cylinder so that the entire pump occupies a little space, and can conveniently be stored.

Other advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description referring to the attached drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown a pump according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The pump includes a cylinder 20, a nozzle 25 connected to an end of the cylinder 20, a piston 22 positioned in the cylinder 20, a rod 21 connected to the piston 22, a ring 23 installed at an opposite end of the cylinder 20 in order to retain the piston 22 in the cylinder 20, a connector 24 connected to the rod 21 and a handle 10 connected to the connector 24.

Referring to FIG. 2, the cylinder 20 includes a plurality of grooves 201 on an internal side. The ring 23 includes a corresponding number of ribs 231 on an internal side. The ribs 231 are fit in the grooves 201 in order to firmly attach the ring 23 to the cylinder 20.

The connector 24 is formed with a thread 241. The handle 10 includes a first thread 11 on an internal side near an end and a second thread 12 on the internal side near an opposite end. The first thread 11 and the second thread 12 are both for engagement with the thread 241. The handle 10 is rotated on the connector 24 in order to properly engage the first thread 11 of the former with the thread 241 of the latter.

Referring to FIG. 3, the first thread 11 of the handle 10 is in engagement with the thread 241 of the connector 24 in order to connect the handle 10 to the connector 24.

Referring to FIG. 4, the handle 10 is operated in order to move the piston 22 in the cylinder 20 through the rod 23. By means of moving the piston 22 back and forth in the cylinder 20, pumping is done.

Referring to FIG. 5, the handle 10 can further be rotated on the connector 24 so that the first thread 11 of the former is disengaged from the thread 241 of the latter. Now, the handle 10 can be pushed toward the cylinder 20. Finally, the second thread 12 of the handle 10 can be engaged with the thread 241 of the connector 24. The handle 10 shields the cylinder 20, and adds almost nothing to the entire length of the pump.

Referring to FIG. 6, the entire pump occupies only a little space.

Referring to FIG. 7, there is shown a pump according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The second embodiment is like the first embodiment except a few things. Firstly, there is used a connector 51 instead of the connector 24. The connector 51 includes a rib 511 instead of the thread 241. Secondly, there is used a handle 40 instead of the handle 10. The handle 40 includes a first groove 41 instead of the first thread 11 of the handle 10 and a second groove 42 instead of the second thread 12 of the handle 10.

Referring to FIG. 8, the rib 511 of the connector 51 is fit in the first groove 41 of the handle 40 in order to connect the connector 51 to the handle 40. The handle 40 is operable in order to operate the pump.

Referring to FIG. 9, the handle 40 is pushed toward the cylinder 20 really hard so that the rib 511 of the connector 51 is moved from the first groove 41 of the handle 40. Now, the rib 511 of the connector 51 can be fit in the second groove 42 of the handle 40. The handle 40 shields the cylinder 20, and adds almost nothing to the entire length of the pump.

The pump of the present invention exhibits at least two advantages. Firstly, when the pump is not in use, the handle shields the cylinder so that the entire pump occupies a little space. Secondly, the change of the positions of the handle on the connector is easy since threads are used in an aspect and a rib and two grooves are used in another aspect.

The present invention has been described through the illustration of the embodiments. Those skilled in the art can derive variations from the embodiments without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the embodiments shall not limit the scope of the present invention defined in the claims.

Claims

1. A pump comprising a cylinder, a nozzle connected to an end of the cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder, a rod connected to the piston, a ring installed at an opposite end of the cylinder, a connector connected to the rod and a handle for connection to the connector in an active position where the handle extends beyond the cylinder and in an idle position where the handle shields the cylinder.

2. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a connection portion for connection with the connector in the active position.

3. The pump according to claim 2 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the connection portion of the handle.

4. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a thread, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the thread of the handle.

5. The pump according to claim 3 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a groove, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the groove of the handle.

6. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a connection portion for connection with the connector in the idle position.

7. The pump according to claim 6 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the connection portion of the handle.

8. The pump according to claim 7 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a thread, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the thread of the handle.

9. The pump according to claim 7 wherein the connection portion of the handle is a groove, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the grove of the handle.

10. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the handle comprises a first connection portion for connection with the connector in the active position and a second connection portion for connection with the connector in the idle position.

11. The pump according to claim 10 wherein the connector comprises a connection portion for connection with the first and second connection portions of the handle.

12. The pump according to claim 111 wherein the first and second connection portions of the handle are threads, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a thread for engagement with the first and second threads of the handle.

13. The pump according to claim 111 wherein the first and second connection portions of the handle are grooves, wherein the connection portion of the connector is a rib for fitting in the first and second grooves of the handle.

14. The pump according to claim 1 wherein the cylinder comprises at least one groove, wherein the ring comprises at least one rib fit in the groove of the cylinder.
