BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Previously it was difficult and expensive to affix picture and sign frames and decorative moldings to interior and exterior walls and ceilings of houses, stores, offices, etc., because they had to be nailed, screwed, or cemented. Often such frames and moldings were hung on screws or picture hooks which meant they could be stolen, knocked off, or fall off in an earthquake which would be a safety hazard. This invention eliminates those problems because it uses a sturdy material backed by a self-adhesive that permanently affixes it flush to the wall or ceiling surface, with no tools or any other materials.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

This invention is a type of applique that can be affixed to interior or exterior walls or ceiling for purposes of decoration and/or utility. It can be configured in any color, shape, size, or pattern. It can be used to frame photographs, signs, mirrors, or art, or to hold light-weight items for display, such as necklaces and jewelry, among many other possible applications. The invention includes a self-adhering backing so that it can be affixed to a surface with no tools or any other materials.

In FIG. 1A, A indicates the adhesive peel-away paper backing, B indicates the industrial strength adhesive, C indicates the beveled edge which prevents a lip from forming when the invention is coated with a primer and/or paint, thus ensuring that the invention presses totally and flatly against the surface, such as a wall. Without the bevel, a lip is usually formed around the edge which prevents the invention from totally adhering to the wall over its entire surface. D indicates the material used in the invention which is trupan, a multi-density fibreboard. Typical thicknesses would range from ¼″ to 1″, or more.

In FIG. 2A, E indicates a typical surface, such as a wall, that invention would be affixed to. H indicates a photograph, not included in the invention, which can be inserted into the invention when configured in a picture frame format. C indicates a beveled edge which is used for the purpose of holding the photograph in place behind the frame and against the surface, such as a wall.

In FIG. 2B, F indicates the primer that is applied to, and is a part of, the invention.

G indicates the layer of paint that is applied over the primer.

In FIG. 3, I shows an example of the use of the invention on doors.

In FIG. 4, J shows the use of the invention on an interior wall.

In FIG. 5, K shows a front view of the invention used as a store display fixture upon which a necklace can be hung while the interior of the frame displays the price.

Claims

a. The invention is made out of multi-density fibreboard with an industrial strength self-adhesive on the back surface.

b. The invention is produced using a laser cut so that there is no tooling cost and can be reproduced cost-effectively in one or any number of copies.

c. The invention has a primer base which gives a better adhesion to the final coating of paint.

d. The invention has a beveled edge on the back which allows the invention to adhere flush with the wall surface so that a potential bead from the primer and final coat of paint does not prevent the invention from adhering flush to the wall surface. This beveled edge also allows a flexible picture or sign to be inserted into the invention when in a picture frame configuration, and held in place by the pressure of the frame.

e. The invention's thickness and composition allow it to be affixed to an interior as well as exterior wall surface, or on an interior ceiling surface.

f. The invention can be fabricated in various thicknesses, up to one inch, or more.
