ANIMAL GAME CALL

Abstract

A call is provided which can be use for calling Whitetail Deer and the like. The call includes a body, a mouth piece, a core piece disposed within at least one of the body and the mouth piece, a first opening in the mouth piece to accept incoming air, an opening in the core to divert a portion of the incoming air, and the core piece and the body are shaped to create an air path way such that air traveling through the path way produces a nasal sound without use of a reed. The nasal sound preferably is a snort wheeze sound associated with a Whitetail Buck.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. § 119 to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 60/755,160, filed Dec. 30, 2005, herein incorporated by reference in its entirety.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to an animal game call, and more particularly, but without limitation, to a deer calling/attracting mouth blown call.

One of the problems with game calls is that they can be difficult to use and produce inconsistent results. Often times, proper use of a call can only be performed by someone who has skill in its use after significant practice. Sometimes this involves specific mouth, lip and tongue movements or contortions. This can be difficult for some to learn and can produce inconsistent results even for those who are trained.

When mouth pieces use reeds, there are other factors that can lead to inconsistent results. The reed can become cracked or damaged over time. The reed may perform differently in different environmental conditions (such as cold temperatures). What is needed is call that does not require any special skill yet produces consistent and reliable results for attracting deer and the like.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Therefore, it is a primary object, feature, or advantage of the present invention to improve over the state of the art.

It is another object, feature, or advantage of the present invention to provide an animal call which can be used to assist in the hunting of deer and similar animals.

A further object, feature or advantage of the present invention is to produce a snort wheeze sound associated with bucks.

It is another object, feature, or advantage of the present invention to provide a call that does not require training the user to make specific mouth and lip movements to create a desired animal sound.

A further object, feature, or advantage of the present invention of the present invention to provide a call that does not require any reeds to produce vibrations.

One or more of these and/or other objects, features, or advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the specification and claims that follow.

In a preferred form, the present invention is intended to be used as a hunting call/aid while hunting Whitetail Deer. It is of three-piece construction with an air diversion in the core piece that when blown through emits the desired sound. This deer calling device or blower emits a sound which can be described as FFF_FFF_FFFFFFFFF! Such a sound is known as a “snort wheeze” and is associated with dominant bucks. It is a sound a buck makes by blowing air through its nose when trying to intimidate another buck. The snort wheeze is the highest form of aggression and is primarily performed by bucks before a charge, leg kick or fight. It may scare off lesser bucks, while attracting a dominant buck.

The animal call of the present invention does not require reeds or vibrating pieces to make the snort wheeze sound. A person blows through the mouthpiece and the air travels into the core piece where it goes through holes. That air then flows through the body of the call which when escaping produces a distinct nasal blow. The combination of air restriction or diversion and the size and shape of the core of the call along with the design of the body of the call is what makes the desired nasal wheeze sound that makes this call function. The call does not require any reeds or gyrations of the mouth and lips to make the desired sound. No matter who blows this call or how hard he or she blows, the sound will remain constant. The call is preferably 1 inch in diameter and 5 inches long. It is preferably tube shaped with a distinct sway or curve in the body of the call.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention. The deer calling device 10 has a body 12 and a mouth piece 14. A core piece is disposed within the body 12 and the mouth piece 14. The body 12 is preferably tube shaped with a distinctive sway or curve in the body of the call. The body 12 can also be described as being concave or having an hourglass shape.

FIG. 2 illustrates a front view of one embodiment of the present invention and FIG. 3 illustrates a section view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2. The body 12 is shown with the mouth piece 14 and a core piece 16 disposed within at least one of the body 12 and the mouth piece 14. A first opening 18 is shown in the mouth piece 14 for receiving incoming air from a user. A second opening 22 is located on an opposite end of the body 12 for outgoing air. A hole 24 is also provided in the core piece 16 for air.

FIG. 4 is a section view of the mouth piece 14, and FIG. 5 is a section view of the core piece 16 disposed partially within the body 12. Note that an opening 24 is shown in the core piece 16 at the end of the core piece 16 nearest the mouth piece 14. FIG. 6 illustrates another perspective view of the deer calling device 10.

In operation, the call 10 is to be used as a hunting call or aid to assist in hunting Whitetail Deer and the like. A user blows through the device to emit a desired sound. The call 10 emits a sound which can be described as FFF_FFF_FFFFFF which is a polysyllabic sound of three syllables with a first syllable of a first duration, a second syllable of a second duration substantially equal to the first duration, and a third syllable of a third duration substantially greater than either of the first duration or the second duration and preferably about twice as long as the first duration or twice as long as the second duration.

Note that the call or blower does not use reeds to make the sound. The person blows through the mouth piece 14 and the air travels into the core piece 16. In the preferred embodiment, there are ⅛ inch holes 24 opposite one another in the core piece 16. The present invention contemplates, however, that only one hole may be used or a plurality can be used. The number and size of holes merely determine the volume of air. The air then flows through the body 12 of the call which when escaping produces a distinctive nasal blow. The combination of air restriction or air diversion and the size and shape of the core of the call along with the design of the body of the call provides the desired nasal wheeze sound that makes this call function without the need to use reeds or otherwise create vibrations. The call also does not require gyrations of the mouth and lips to make the desired sound. The sound is produced no matter how hard or who blows his call the sound will remain constant. It is preferred that the call is 1 inch in diameter and 5 inches long and formed of plastic. Of course, the size of the call can be altered in a manner that will produce the same results.

The present invention is in no way to be limited to the preferred embodiment set forth herein, as the invention contemplates numerous variations. The invention as disclosed herein is only limited by the claims.

Claims

1. An animal game call, comprising:

a body having a first end and an opposite second end;

a mouth piece operatively connected to the first end of the body and having an inlet to accept incoming air;

a core piece disposed within at least one of the body and the mouth piece and having at least one aperture for receiving the incoming air;

the core piece and the body shaped to create an air pathway such that air traveling through the pathway produces a nasal sound without use of a reed.

2. The call of claim 1 wherein the nasal sound is a polysyllabic sound associated with Whitetail Deer.

3. The call of claim 1 wherein the body has a generally concave shape.

4. The call of claim 1 further comprising an annular notch in a surface of the body.

5. The call of claim 1 wherein the nasal sound is a snort wheeze.

6. The call of claim 1 wherein the body is shaped to provide a bell at the second end.

7. The call of claim 1 wherein the core piece includes a closed end nearest the mouth piece with an annular sidewall extending therefrom, and the at least one aperture is formed in the sidewall.

8. The call of claim 1 wherein the mouthpiece, core piece and body are integrally formed.

9. A call for producing a snort wheeze sound associated with a buck without using a reed, comprising a body, a mouthpiece operatively connected to the body, and a core piece disposed within the body whereby air received through the mouth piece diverts through the body of the call to produce the snort wheeze sound without use of a reed.

10. A method for calling wild animal game, comprising:

providing a call having a body, a mouthpiece operatively connected to the body, and a core piece disposed within the body, the call having no reed; and

blowing air into the mouth piece.
