Light-in-weight golf club holder and GREENSIDETM golf bag supplement

Reference: My U.S. Pat. No. 6,471,055 B1, LIGHT-IN-WEIGHT GOLF CLUB HOLDER, Patent document attached, is modified with an additional auxiliary device, namely, a spring loaded clip attached to top of Central Support Member 12 of U.S. Pat. No. 6,471,055 B1, for the purpose of expanding the use of said Patent, to also be used as a GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement when riding carts are used. The also claimed spring loaded dip allows U.S. Pat. No. 6,471,055 to be securely fastened flush to a golf bag on a riding cart, thus functioning as a golf bag supplement. The spring loaded clip method of fastening a golf bag supplement to a golf bag differs from other golf bag supplements where a simple loose fitting hook over the top of the golf bag is used, which is a disadvantage described in more detail in BACKGROUND OF INVENTION: Description of the Prior Art.

Description
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates, generally, to devices commonly known as golf bag supplements or attachments. These golf bag supplements are attached to conventional golf bags on a riding golf cart, and are used to hold a golfers around-the-green golf clubs for play around-the-green.

2. Description of the Prior Art

Conventional golf bag supplements, or attachments, generally employ a loose fitting hook arrangement placed over-the-top of the golf bag to secure the golf bag supplement to the golf bag on a riding golf cart.

The disadvantage of any such hook arrangement is that a hook over the top of the golf bag is loose fitting and does not firmly secure the golf bag supplement to the golf bag on a riding cart, thus allowing the possibility of movement of the golf bag supplement and possible separation from the golf bag and falling to the ground when the golf cart is bouncing while traveling over rough terrain. The GREENSIDE™ “Clip” eliminates the possibility of any golf bag supplement movement while allowing easy removal of the golf bag supplement when golf cart is parked for play around-the-green. It is the flare design feature at the spring loaded clip's end which allows it to slide and spring open when placed over the top of the golf bag for easy attachment and removal of the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement from the golf bag, while allowing the spring loaded feature to hold the golf bag supplement firmly in place when attached flush to the golf bag during movement of the golf cart. For added stability during movement of the cart, the “Clip” is designed to allow the bottom end of the Central Support Member 12 of the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement to also rest on the golf cart pad along with the golf bag. By simply reversing the process, (that is by lifting vertically the golf bag supplement), allows the “Clip” to slide free from the golf bag for easy removal of the attached GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement from the golf bag for play around-the-green. As more and more golf courses require riding carts to be limited to traveling on cart-paths-only, the need for a golf bag supplement to securely hold a golfer's around-the-green clubs is a practical solution to a golfer hand carrying those around-the-green clubs when exiting the riding cart to play an approach shot to the green and subsequent putting. The advantages of containing a golfer's around-the-green clubs in a golf bag supplement, such as the GREENSIDE™, are that when removed from the golf bag and standing in an upright position, the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement not only keeps the golf clubs off the ground and dry during wet course conditions, but also allows the GREENSIDE™ to be placed and stand upright at the edge of the green without danger of course damage, which might otherwise occur with the spike arrangement used on other golf bag supplements, holders or carriers. Additionally, the incidence of forgetting unused clubs when hand carried to the green and placed on the ground is greatly diminished, as several around-the-green dubs standing upright in the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement are more visible and less likely to be overlooked and forgotten as compared to hand carried clubs left on the ground, only to be remembered by the golfer at the next hole played. Returning to find lost clubs at a previous hole played not only is an embarrassment to the golfer, but also slows down normal play of a round of golf.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The growing Cart-Path-Only rule mandated by most golf courses today, places golfers using riding golf carts in the awkward position of carrying several around-the-green clubs by hand, as they exit the riding golf cart on their way to playing approach shots around-the-green, and subsequent putting.

The long-standing, but heretofore unfulfilled need for a golf bag supplement of light-in-weight construction having the versatile stand means of my “Patent” with a “Clip” arrangement which securely attaches the golf bag supplement to a golf bag on a riding cart, is now met by a new and useful invention of simple design. The novel GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement, which holds a golfers around-the-green clubs, is made possible by attaching the “Clip” in FIG. 1, to the top of Central Support Member 12 of my “Patent”, as illustrated in FIG. 2 & FIG. 3, for easy attachment and removal from a golf bag on a riding golf cart, for play around-the-green. The result of the attached “Clip” to my “Patent” is the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement.

BRIEF HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

The origin of the GREENSIDE™ resulted from the need for an ultralite golf bag supplement of sturdy construction, design simplicity, and ease of operation, which stands upright on all golf course conditions and terrain without causing course damage that occurs when a spike stand is used to penetrate the ground, which damage must be avoided when play on and around-the-green occurs. My “Patent”, known commercially as Golf-D'Lite®: the LITEGOLF® Club Carrier, was designed for golfers that walk, or need to walk. Some of my “Patents” defining features are: ultralite design, sturdy construction, design simplicity, ease of operation, a non-destructive stand, perfect balance, resulting health benefits from construction, design simplicity, ease of operation, a non-destructive stand, perfect balance, resulting health benefits from use, and it pays for itself from the savings of only 3 or 4 riding cart rentals.

With the addition of the “Clip” to my “Patent”, its use is expanded to fill the very unfulfilled need for a golf bag supplement for golfers who prefer using riding golf carts, as described under SUMMARY OF INVENTION, resulting in the novel GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement invention.

LIGHT-IN-WEIGHT GOLF CLUB HOLDER AND GREENSIDE™ GOLF BAG SUPPLEMENT, is known commercially as Golf-D'Lite®: the GREENSIDE™ Club Carrier and Golf Bag Supplement, or for brevity, the GREENSIDE™. It weighs less than 35 ounces.

In addition to a “Clip” arrangement which securely attaches the golf bag supplement to a golf bag on a riding cart, some defining features of the GREENSIDE™ are: Ultralite design, sturdy construction, design simplicity, ease of operation, a non destructive stand, perfect balance and resulting health benefits from use, thus fulfilling the golf industry's very need for a golf bag supplement to simplify the cart-path-only limitations for play around-the-green described under SUMMARY OF INVENTION.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a front and side view of the GREENSIDE™ “Clip”. When attached to my “Patent” as shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, this additional auxiliary device, the “Clip”, permits the spring loaded action of the “Clip” to function as desired, that is, to slide smoothly over the top of the golf bag while applying adequate pressure against the golf bag for a secure hold to the golf bag of my “Patent” while the golf cart is in motion. This expanded use of my “Patent” is made possible by the attachment of the “Clip” of FIG. 1 to the top of Central Support Member 12 of my “Patent”. My “Patent”, with the “Clip” attached, is known commercially as: Golf-D'Lite®: the GREENSIDE™ Club Carrier and Golf Bag Supplement, or, the GREENSIDE™.

FIG. 2 is a side elevation view of my “Patent” modified with the GREENSIDE™ “Clip” attached to Central Support Member 12 of my “Patent”, and the stand means of the club holder in a secure position as it would be when attached flush to a golf bag on a riding golf cart, and holding the golfers desired 4 to 6 around-the-green golf clubs. (Golf clubs are not shown in FIG. 2 holder.). For added stability during movement of the cart, the “Clip” is designed to allow the bottom end of the Central Support Member 12 of the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement to also rest on the golf cart pad along with the golf bag. It is the flare design feature at the spring loaded clip's end which allows the “Clip” to slide and spring open when placed over the top of the golf bag for easy attachment and removal of the GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement from the golf bag, while allowing the clips spring loaded feature to hold the golf bag supplement firmly in place when attached flush to the golf bag during movement of the golf cart.

By simply reversing the process, (that is by lifting vertically the golf bag supplement), the “Clip” is allowed to slide free from the golf bag for easy removal of the attached GREENSIDE™ golf bag supplement from the golf bag for play around-the-green. FIG. 3 is a side elevation view of my “Patent” with the GREENSIDE™ “Clip” attached, and the stand means deployed in its free standing position when play around-the-green occurs.
