Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to an impact protection device for a nail driver, more particularly to an impact absorber mounted on a nail-punching-depth adjusting sleeve connected between a securing slide rod and a knocking rod to absorb impact passing from the knocking rod to the securing slide rod when the nail driver is accidentally dropped.

A securing slide rod and a knocking rod are interconnected in a nail driver. The securing slide rod provides an end capable of reaching an inner trigger of the nail driver and the knocking rod provides an end protruding out of the nail driver and close to the opening of the punching channel to contact a workpiece. Therefore, the securing slide rod can push on the inner trigger to release the trigger for activation of the nail driver when the knocking rod presses against on the surface of the workpiece.

Furthermore, mostly a sleeve for adjusting the nail punching depth is used to connect with the securing slide rod or the knocking rod or therebetween. The sleeve can adjust a protruding length of the knocking rod to control the punching depth of nail. Especially for the thinner workpiece, usually the sleeve has to be adjusted to make the nail expose its head standing out of the workpiece to ensure the fastness.

However, if the nail driver is accidentally dropped to have the knocking rod hit on the ground. The impact may cause the knocking rod or the securing slide rod bended or even broken.

A conventional way to solve the problem is using larger sized knocking rod or securing slide to enhance the strength. However, the impact still exists and will distribute to other components of the nail driver to cause damage.

Others, a spring is provided between the securing slide rod and nail driver body to push back the knocking rod or provided to the sleeve for resilient adjustment. However, the spring still can not absorb the impact.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is to provide an impact protection device for a nail driver so that the securing slide rod and the knocking rod and the nail driver can be protected when the nail driver is accidentally dropped.

Accordingly, the nail driver of the present invention includes a nail-punching-depth adjusting sleeve connected between a securing slide rod and a knocking rod. At least one absorber is mounted on an exterior surface of the sleeve. The securing slide rod has one end able to reach an inner trigger for activation of the nail driver by a trigger and the other end formed a receiving portion. The knocking rod has one end formed a bolt and the other end protruding out of the nail driver to press against a workpiece for lifting the securing slide rod to push on the inner trigger. The sleeve is rotatably and moveably received in the receiving portion and the bolt is screwed therein to interconnect the securing slide rod and the knocking rod.

Furthermore, the absorber can be a rubber bushing or a compressible spring to absorb impact passing from the knocking rod to the securing slide rod.

Various objects and advantages of the present invention will be more readily understood from the following detailed description when read in conjunction with the appended drawing.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In order that those skilled in the art can further understand the present invention, a description will be described in the following in details. However, these descriptions and the appended drawings are only used to cause those skilled in the art to understand the objects, features, and characteristics of the present invention, but not to be used to confine the scope and spirit of the present invention defined in the appended claims.

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a pneumatic nail driver 1 of the present invention includes a securing slide rod 3, a knocking rod 4, a nail-punching-depth adjusting sleeve 5 and an impact absorber 6.

The securing slide rod 3 has one end 30 capable of reaching an inner trigger 21 for the activation of the nail driver 1 by a trigger 2 and the other end 31 formed a receiving portion 310.

The knocking rod 4 has one end integrally or coordinately formed a bolt 41 as the connecting portion and the other end as a contact end 42 protruding out of the nail driver 1 and close to the opening 101 of a punching channel 10.

The sleeve 5 is connected between the securing slide rod 3 and the knocking rod 4 by screwing the bolt 41 therein and being rotatably and movably received in the receiving portion 310 of the securing slide rod 3.

The absorber 6, which can be made of flexible material like rubber or spring, is mounted on an exterior surface of the sleeve 5 to absorb impact passing from the knocking rod 4 to the securing slide rod 3.

As such, the securing slide rod 3 can push on the inner trigger 21 to rotate a swing component 22 for releasing the trigger 2 and the nail driver 1 can be triggered by the trigger 2 to push a lever 231 of a trigger valve 23 so that high-pressure air will drive a punch rod 11 in the punching channel 10 to shoot nail 12 when the knocking rod 4 is presses against on the surface of a workpiece to lift up the securing slide rod 3.

The receiving portion 310 includes two parallel supporting plates 311 and 312 for the sleeve 5 securely and stably received in the receiving portion 310. A rubber bushing 32 is installed on the sleeve 5 between these two supporting plates 311 and 312 to enhance the strength thereof against the impact.

A nut 43 is used to screw on the threaded end of the bolt 41 to fix the position of sleeve 5 after the punching depth of the nail is determined.

The sleeve 5 includes a head 52 to rest on the upper supporting plate 311 and a cylindrical body 51 to penetrate two supporting plates 311 and 312 with a distal portion protruding from the lower supporting plate 311 wearing the absorber 6.

The head 52 of the sleeve 5 has a cavity 53 for receiving the nut 43 and a compressible spring 54 to press against the sleeve 5. Therefore, the knocking rod 4 can go back to its normal position after the contact end 42 does not press against the workpiece. The existing of the spring 54 can also provide stable operation for rotating the head 52 of the sleeve 5 to adjust the punching depth of the nail.

A washer 7 is further mounted on the distal portion of the cylindrical body 51 right beneath the absorber 6 to disperse the interaction caused between the bolt 41 and the absorber 6 and a C-ring 8 is then used to secure the absorber 6 and the washer 7 mounted on the cylindrical body 51 of the sleeve 5.

Accordingly, when the nail driver 1 is used to fasten a thinner workpiece 9, as shown in FIG. 3, a user can rotate the sleeve 5 through the head 52 so that the bolt 41 screwed in the sleeve 5 can move forward or backward to obtain a proper protruding length of the knocking rod 4 out of the nail driver 1. In is case, a vertical distance H measured from the opening 101 of the punch channel 10 to the contact end 42 of the knocking rod 4 should be larger than a lifting height h of the securing slide rod 3. Such that, as shown in FIG. 4, after the knocking rod 4 presses against the workpiece 9, due to the force exerted on the knocking rod 4 is still within an endurance of the absorber 6, that is, the force can not deform or only slightly deform the absorber 6, thus the sleeve 5 does not move with respect to the receiving portion 310 of the securing rod 3 and the securing rod 3 is lifted up with the distance h to push on the inner trigger 21 to rotate the swing component 22 for releasing the trigger 2. Moreover, the contact end 42 of the knocking rod 4 still remains a vertical distance h′ measuring from the opening 101 equal to or larger than a size S of the nail 12. Therefore, the nail driver 1 can be triggered by the trigger 2 to push the lever 231 of the trigger valve 23 and the high-pressure air drives the punch rod 11 in the punching channel 10 shooting the nail 12 to the workpiece 9 and have the nail head 121 of the nail 12 stand out of the surface of the workpiece 9 to enhance the fastness of nail 12 on the workpiece 9, as shown in FIG. 5.

As shown in FIG. 3, if the nail driver 1 is accidentally dropped to have contact end 42 of the knocking rod 4 hit on the ground 90, the knocking rod 4 will be pushed to have the contact end 42 leveled to the opening 101, as shown in FIGS. 6 or 7. Due to the impact will make the absorber 6 deformed, that is, the absorber 6 will absorb the impact, the sleeve 5 will move up with respect to the receiving portion 310 of the securing slide rod 3 and the securing slide rod 3 will substantially remain unmoved. As in FIGS. 6 or 7, a rubber bushing 6 or a spring 60 is used to absorb the impact by the compressibility. Moreover, the washer 7 can uniformly distribute the impact to the rubber bushing 6 or spring 60 for better absorption. Therefore, the securing slide rod 3 and the knocking rod 4 can be protected from the impact to prolong the lifetime.

The present invention is thus described. It will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the present invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims.
