Abstract

A wearable infant blanket that is formed in the shape of a fabric bag equipped with an elasticized top opening such that it can be worn on an infants body up to the waist or chest.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally relates to an infant wear and more particularly, relates to a wearable infant blanket in the shape of a fabric bag with an elasticized top opening that tightens around an infant's waist or chest.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

For most families that have infants, the task of taking care of an infant requires a great deal of effort from the parents, and particularly, from new parents. One of such effort is to keep the infant warm during sleep at nighttime such that the infant does not catch a cold which may lead to pneumonia or other serious diseases. A most frequently used article for keeping an infant warm either during the day, or at night is an infant blanket. However, such blanket even when adequately covers the infant by the parent when placing the infant to sleep, the blanket can be easily kicked off or thrown off when the infant turns his or her body in the crib. Unless the parents constantly checking on the infant, it is very likely that the infant will catch a cold or otherwise becomes sick for not being kept warm.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to keep an infant warm by a blanket that does not have the drawbacks or shortcomings of the conventional infant blankets.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an infant blanket that can be securely used to cover an infant either during the awake time or during the sleep time.

It is a further an object of the present invention to provide a wearable infant blanket that can be securely fastened to an infant's body.

It is another further object of the present invention to provide a wearable infant blanket that is equipped with an elasticized top opening such that it securely wraps around an infant's waist or chest.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with the present invention, a wearable infant blanket that can be wrapped around an infant's waist or chest by an elasticized top opening is provided.

In the preferred embodiment, the present invention wearable infant blanket is constructed by a fabric bag that forms a body for the wearable infant blanket, the fabric bag has a top opening and a sealed bottom; and an elastic member formed integrally with a periphery of the top opening such that the top opening has a first width that is at least 20% smaller than a second width of the sealed bottom.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The present invention discloses a wearable infant blanket in the shape of a fabric bag equipped with an elasticized top opening for wrapping around an infant's waist or chest.

The present invention wearable infant blanket is a wearable blanket-like accessory for infants and young toddlers. The wearable infant blanket is designed to replace the use of standard blankets in an infant crib. Infants and toddlers cannot kick it off during the night, and it does not become a suffocation hazard like loose blankets sometimes can.

The present invention wearable infant blanket is produced from washable blanket materials such as cotton flannel, wool, or fleece. It is a sack-like accessory in the shape of a bag that fits over an infant's lower body up to the waist or chest. An elastic member formed integrally with the top opening hold the wearable blanket in place. The present invention wearable blanket measures approximately twenty-five inches long and twenty-two inches wide. It can be fabricated in different fabric weights that would be suitable for both cold weather and warm weather use. Different colors and different patterns may also be used in the present invention wearable blanket.

The present invention wearable blanket fulfills the need for a blanket-like accessory that can be worn by an infant or young toddler and cannot be kicked off during the night. The appealing features of the wearable blanket is its convenient design, ease of use, safety, as well as comfort and warmth it provides for the infant. The wearable blanket allows parents to dress their infant in a blanket and then be rest assured that the infant would stay covered up and warm throughout the night. Contrary to standard blankets, wherein an infant's movement can cause the blanket to fall off either because it is kicked off or slips off when the infant moves in bed. The present invention wearable blanket stays on the infant's body and keeps the infant warm. The fact that the wearable blanket does not fall off the infants body during night ensures a good night sleep for the infant.

The present invention wearable blanket further enhances safety in the infant crib. The design of the wearable blanket helps to prevent crib deaths associated with suffocation or strangulation sometimes caused by loose bedding in the crib. Even the incidents of sudden infant death syndrome may be reduced since there would be no loose bedding that can possibly bunch around the infants' mouth and nose.

Referring initially to FIG. 1, wherein a present invention wearable infant blanket 10 is shown. The wearable blanket 10 is formed by a fabric bag 20 that forms a body for the wearable blanket 10 which has a top opening 22 and a sealed bottom 24. An elastic member 30 (such as an elastic cord) (shown in FIG. 3) is integrally formed, or situated inside a pocket 26, such as that shown in FIG. 3, in the periphery of the top opening 22. As a result, the width of the top opening 22 is smaller than a width of the sealed bottom of the fabric bag 20. Preferably, the width of the top opening should be at least 20% smaller that the width of the sealed bottom 24. More preferably, the width of the top opening should be at least 30% smaller than the width of the sealed bottom.

FIG. 2 further shows a perspective view of the present invention wearable infant blanket 10 with the top opening 22 facing the front, while FIG. 3 is a partial, cross-sectional view of the top opening 22 of the fabric bag 20 illustrating the incorporation of the elastic member 30. It should be noted that the elastic member 30, which may be an elastic cord, may be either sewn to the top opening 22 along a periphery, or be situated in a pocket 26 formed along the periphery of the top opening 22, as shown in FIG. 3.

The application of the present invention wearable infant blanket 10 is shown in FIG. 4 where it is fitted over an infant's body up to the waistline.

The present invention wearable infant blanket has therefore been amply described in the above descriptions and the appended drawings of FIGS. 1-4.

While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been described above, it will be recognized and understood that various modifications can be made in the invention and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications which may fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A wearable infant blanket comprising:

a fabric bag forming a body for said wearable infant blanket, said fabric bag having a top opening and a sealed bottom; and

an elastic member formed integrally with a periphery of said top opening such that said top opening having a first width that is at least 20% smaller than a second width of said sealed bottom.

2. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said fabric bag is formed in a material selected from cotton, wool, cotton flannel, and fleece.

3. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said elastic member is an elastic cord.

4. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, further comprising a pocket portion formed along the periphery of said top opening for receiving an elastic cord therein.

5. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said first width is at least 30% smaller said second width.

6. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said fabric bag having a length that covers an infant's waist line.

7. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said fabric bag having a length that covers up to an infant's chest.

8. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said fabric bag is washable.

9. The wearable infant blanket according to claim 1, wherein said fabric bag further comprising two sides that are sealed.
