Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(a) Technical Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to knife sharpening device, and in particular, a knife sharpening device which is used to sharpen both of the edge of a knife.

(b) Description of the Prior Art

FIGS. 1 and 2 show conventional knife sharpener which is generally a cylindrical sharpening rod 10. The surface of the rod 10 is a polishing surface 15 which is used to sharpen the edge of the knife 1 in the course of knife sharpening. The drawback of such sharpening rod 10 is that the efficiency of sharpening a knife is poor.

FIGS. 3 and 4 shows a conventional knife sharpening device 20 published in Taiwan Patent Publication No. 368921. The knife sharpening device 20 has a handle 21 with a front end being a polygonal shape tungsten-steel plate 25. The corners of the tungsten-steel plate 25 are the sharpening corners 26 for use in maintaining the sharpness of the edge 1 of a knife. Such conventional knife sharpening device can enhance the sharpening efficiency, however, only one sharpening corner 26 can be used and therefore, the applicability of this conventional device 20 is not restricted. Further, the wear out of the sharpening corner 26 is too fast, therefore, the longevity of the conventional sharpening device is short.

In view of the above drawback, it is an object of the present invention to provide a knife sharpening device which could overcome the drawbacks as stated.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The primary purpose of the present invention is to provide a knife sharpening device having an elongated body with cornered edge on the surface thereof, characterized in that at least one corner of the device is a cornered slot extended axially and the connection between the top end of the two walls of the cornered slot with the circumferential surface forms into a first sharpening edge and a second sharpening edge, and the first and the second sharpening edge are in contact with the edge of a knife.

Yet another of the present invention is to provide a knife sharpening device, wherein at least one end of the sharpening device is a converging conic for sharpening the edge of a small knife.

Another further object of the present invention is to provide a knife sharpening device which is a cylindrical elongated body, characterized in that the circumferential edge of the device has at least a sectional slot which is axially extended, and the connection between the top end of the two lateral wall of the sectioned slot forms into a first sharpening edge and a second sharpening edge, and the first and the second sharpening edge can contact with the first edge of a knife at the same to sharpen the knife.

The foregoing object and summary provide only a brief introduction to the present invention. To fully appreciate these and other objects of the present invention as well as the invention itself, all of which will become apparent to those skilled in the art, the following detailed description of the invention and the claims should be read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Throughout the specification and drawings identical reference numerals refer to identical or similar parts.

Many other advantages and features of the present invention will become manifest to those versed in the art upon making reference to the detailed description and the accompanying sheets of drawings in which a preferred structural embodiment incorporating the principles of the present invention is shown by way of illustrative example.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

The following description are of exemplary embodiment only, and are not intended to limit the scope, applicability or configuration of the invention in any way. Rather, the following description provides a convenient illustration for implementing exemplary embodiments of the invention. Various changes to the described embodiments may be made in the function and arrangement of the elements described without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

Referring to FIGS. 5 and 6, there is shown a knife sharpening device 70 which is a cornered elongated body having a first and a second end. The first end can be mounted with a handle (not shown), and the second end has a converging sloping section 78 for use on the edge 1 of a small knife.

In accordance with the present invention, at least one corner of the knife sharpening device 70 has a cornered slot 71 which extends axially, and the connection between the top end of the side of the corner slot 71 and the circumferential surface form into a first sharpening edge 75 and a second sharpening edge 76. The first and the second sharpening 75, 76 can contact closely with the edge 1 of the knife, as shown in FIG. 6 so that the first and second sharpening edge 75, 76 can sharpen the edge 1 of a knife.

Accordingly, the present knife sharpening device improves sharpening efficiency in sharpening a knife or the like.

The application of the knife sharpening device is shown in FIG. 6. The first sharpening edge 75 and the second sharpening 76 at the lateral sides of any of the cornered slot 71 of the knife sharpening device 70 are at the same time in contact with the edge 1 of a knife and the first and second sharpening edge 75 and 76 are moved to and fro to sharpen the edge 1 of the knife. Due to the dual polishing action of the sharpening edge 75, 76, the efficiency of sharpening a knife is improved.

In another preferred embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the knife sharpening device is a cylindrical rod and the circumferential edge of the rod is provided with at least one sectioned slot 51 and the sectioned slot 51 is extended axially, and the connection between the top end of the two lateral walls of the sectioned slot 51 and the circumferential edge is formed into a first sharpening edge 55 and the second sharpening edge 56, wherein the first sharpening edge 55, 56 can at the same time in contact with the edge of the knife 1, as shown in FIG. 8, such that the first and second sharpening edge 55, 56 can at the same time sharpen the edge 1 of the knife in to and fro movement. Furthermore, at least one end of the knife sharpening device 50 has a converging conic section 58 for application on the edge of a smaller knife. The efficiency of sharpening on the edge of knife is significantly improved as compared to the conventional knife sharpening device.

In a preferred embodiment, the shape of the knife sharpening device is a four cornered elongated body.

It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together may also find a useful application i other types of methods differing from the type described above.

While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claim, it is not intended to be limited to the details above, since it will be understood that various omissions, modifications, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing in any way from the spirit of the present invention.
