Disposable Deflector Eyepiece
This invention is directed to a disposable deflector eyepiece to protect the face and particularly the eyes of its wearer from light flying particles, splashed liquids, dust, paint, aerosol emissions and the like. The disposable deflector eyepiece for the human head preferably comprises a transparent flexible sheet, an absorbent elongated part and a resilient band. The high flexibility of the transparent flexible sheet follows perfectly the curvature of the forehead thus leaving no gap between the sheet and the forehead when the disposable deflector eyepiece is worn on the head of a user.
There is no cross-reference to related applications.
FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention generally relates to devices designed to protect the face.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONRelatively expansive heavy duty face shields are available in the market for such construction workers, painters or generally for workers who have to protect their eyes and face from particles in the air such as dust, paint, splashed liquid or the like. In U.S. Pat. No. 5,138,714 the optical device is in contact with forehead but only with the sides thereof thus it does not prevent sweat, dust and other particles to get into the eyes through the upper part of the optical device.
The present invention is related to optical devices serving as protective eye devices or covering and the like and, more particularly, is directed to a disposable low cost deflector eyepiece.
Various foreign solid, liquid, and gaseous materials may present a poisonous, caustic, or toxic danger to the human eye, and accordingly protective eye coverings or shields have been proposed to eliminate or reduce the risk of danger. Simple eye glasses designed primarily with corrective lenses may provide some protection against foreign materials but are vulnerable if exposure of foreign materials is introduced over the top or around the sides of the frame for the glasses. Furthermore, they may become stained or scratched by such material.
Various goggles may provide protection for the immediate area of the eye yet expose the forehead and facial area of a user and they can also be uncomfortable. The majority of these goggles are permanent and as a result more expensive. For heavy works implicating materials or that can irreversibly alter goggles, the cost become very high.
The disposable deflector eyepiece of the present invention is designed to eliminate or minimize such disadvantageous features of prior art protective eye wear.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTIONAccordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece to prevent dust, paint or else to get into in the eyes.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which is totally in contact with the forehead of the wearer.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which is disposable.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which is inexpensive.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which can be worn with glasses, under a hat, a scarf or the like.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which retains sweat from the forehead.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which adapted to display an advertisement, image or other message.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which can be installed over a protective face shield or protective glasses.
Still, another object of the present invention is to provide a deflector eyepiece which will reduce mist caused by nasal expiration.
Other and further objects and advantages of the present invention will be obvious upon an understanding of the illustrative embodiments about to be described or will be indicated in the appended claims, and various advantages not referred to herein will occur to one skilled in the art upon employment of the invention in practice.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThis invention is directed to a disposable deflector eyepiece to protect the face and particularly the eyes of its wearer from light flying particles, splashed liquids, dust, paint, aerosol emissions and the like. According to the present invention, there is provided a disposable deflector eyepiece for the human head comprising a clear film, an absorbent elongated strip like part and a resilient band. It is particularly useful when painting or sanding a ceiling. The flexible transparent sheet (clear film) has a sufficient length to cover the region comprised between the forehead and the lower part of the nose and at least part of the sides of a human face. A resilient band is preferably attached to both sides of the transparent flexible sheet and the tension in the band is sufficient to flex the sheet to perfectly fit the forehead thus leaving no gap between the sheet and the forehead when the disposable deflector eyepiece is worn on the head of a user. However, other known attachment means may be used to hold the deflector in place. The high flexibility of the sheet accommodates different facial structures and follows the curvature of the head to protect the sides of the head from being soiled.
A main cause of condensation in this kind of device is due to the exhalation by nose and mouth. In the present invention, these both are generally outside the disposable deflector and thus reduce condensation.
The elongated strip like part is preferably made of an absorbent material to absorb retain sweat and oil of the skin of the forehead. It also helps to keep the disposable deflector eyepiece in place even if the skin is humid.
The elongated strip like part is preferably made of a printable material adapted to display an advertisement, image or other message.
The disposable deflector eyepiece may also comprise at least one tear-off part to create different lengths to adapt to different facial structures.
It is important to note that the disposable deflector eyepiece is not a protective shield and the main goal is to stop light particles and not to protect the wearer from physical impacts, corrosive products or the like.
The disposable deflector eyepiece can be worn alone or over a protective face shield, protective goggles or even normal glasses. It can be used in construction work to protect against materials like paint, sprayed liquids, varnish, etc. . . .
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims.
