Roofer's lifesaver

Abstract

A Roofer's Lifesaver is a set of (2) units. These units attach to any pitch roof using adjustable roof pads (34),(36),(40), and (42). There is a handle with a nut attached (22) used to tighten Roofer's Lifesaver to the roof. A pipe is then placed between the units and used to tie safety rope and harness to. This Invention is designed for roofers safety. This invention is also designed for efficiency for roofers as it requires no tools to attach to roof. Also two roofers can work off the same tool and work both sides of the roof.

BACKGROUND

1. Field of Invention

This invention relates to roofers, specifically to the safety of roofers.

2. Prior Art

There have been many inventions proposed to roofers safety, many of which are being used today. Many of the inventions are used with a harness and rope system. A few solutions to the problem of roofers safety are listed below:

(1) U.S. Pat. No. 7,028,990 to Shorey (2006) discloses Temporary rooftop And Safety Rail System. This system has parts to assemble, and uses a board system. While Roofer's Lifesaver has no parts to assemble. Roofer's Lifesaver is an all in one convenient tool absolutely no parts to assemble.

(2) U.S. Pat. No. 373,718 to Rondeau (1996) discloses “Combined Staging Bracket And Double Sided Clamp Back Rail”. This system requires tools to install, as it needs to be nailed or cleated to roof. This also needs to be moved up the roof for another span. Roofer's Lifesaver once again requires no tools at all to mount to roof. Also a roofer can save time, you only have to mount Roofer's Lifesaver one time and you can complete the entire roof. Roofers can work both sides of the roof, and 2 people can work off the same tool.

(3) U.S. Patent No. 2002/0109059A1 to Giglio (2002) discloses “Roofing Bracket”. This system once again needs tools to install. Roofers get a pendulum effect while on the roof and working with this tool. There is no way to keep a safety harness and rope attached at all times. Roofer's Lifesaver once again requires no tools. Roofer's get no pendulum effect, Roofer's Lifesaver you can work the entire edge of the roof. The safety harness and rope can stay attached at all times.

SUMMARY

The current invention is a unit using a pipe to tie off while working on the roof. Roofer's Lifesaver provides several advantages over other safety devices.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 shows the front view, and FIG. 2 shows the side view of the present invention.

FIG. 3 shows an exploded view of nut (28); this part is used to tighten the Roofer's Lifesaver down to the roof.

FIG. 4 shows an exploded view of pad (34). This is an adjustable pad used to adjust to the pitch of the roof and clamps down with nut (28).

FIG. 5 shows an exploded view of pad (40). This is an adjustable pad used to adjust to the pitch of the roof. The pressure exerted by pad (34) holds pad (40) in place.

FIG. 6 shows an exploded view of holder (24). Roofer's Lifesaver is attached to opposite ends of roof. A pipe up to 16 feet goes thru holder (24) on each tool, the pipe is then used to attach up to 2 safety ropes and harnesses to.

FIG. 7 is the present invention attached to an unfinished roof.

Operation—FIGS. 3,4,5,6,7

The operation of this invention is simple as it is an all in one tool. Place (1) Roofer's Lifesaver on the roof place in the roof vent and turn at a 90 degree turn. Then use (28) adjustment nut with handle to tighten the Roofer's Lifesaver to the roof. The upper roof pads (34), (36), and the lower roof pads (36), (40) will automatically adjust when tightening to roof with adjustment nut with handle(28). Repeat instructions above to install second Roofer's Lifesaver the desired distance apart, up to 16′. Now place the pipe up to 16′ long with safety rings, thru pipe holder (24) of each Roofer's Lifesaver. Then attach up to 2 safety ropes and harnesses to the pipe. Roofers may now work both sides of roof, up to a 16′ span using one set of (2) Roofer's Lifesaver. If needed you can place another Roofer's Lifesaver every 16′ and place a pipe as long of span as you need. This is the only tool that can go the span of the entire roof.

Advantages

From the operations and background prior arts above a number of advantages become evident

(a) All other inventions require additional tools to attach to roof.

(b) Roofer's Lifesaver has no pendulum effect, as other inventions do.

(c) Roofers can work both sides of the roof without moving the present invention.

(d) Roofers can work the entire edge of the roof

(e) Two roofers can work off the same set of the present invention.

(f) Adjusts from a 2/12 to 12/12 pitch with no modifications to tool.

(g) Roofers are able to work a 16′ span with one set of the present invention.

Accordingly anyone can see that this is an all in one, easy to use convenient invention.

Although the description above contains many specificities, these should not be used to limit the scope of this invention. The above listed description should only be used merely to provide illustrations for the presently preferred uses.

Claims

1. A Roofer's Lifesaver comprising:

a. adjustable roof pads without removable parts or tools;

b. no pendulum effect in rope

c. two roofers can work off the same tool;

d. roofers can work both sides of roof;

e. handle with nut attached to tighten to roof easy with no tools required;
