CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims priority to provisional patent application having Ser. No. 60/818,035, filed Jun. 30, 2006, which is herein incorporated in its entirety.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to finishing interior and exterior walls in building construction, and more particularly to interior and exterior corner beads or corner supports that aid in finishing interior and exterior corners of buildings during construction.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Several corner beads and corner supports exist in the prior art for aiding in the finishing of corners during building construction. Corner beads and corner supports are typically used in drywall construction between adjacent sheets of drywall. The corner bead or corner support aids in adjoining the ends of adjacent sheets of drywall to form a corner.

The corner support of the present invention may be used to assist in finishing any interior or exterior corner in the construction of buildings.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention is generally directed to a corner support for aiding in the finishing of interior or exterior corners of buildings. In one exemplary embodiment, the corner support includes three leg members having first and second ends and opposite sides where their first ends are connected perpendicular to one another to form a three way corner section. The corner support also includes a plurality of shelf members which each extend outward from, and along a length of, each side of the leg members. The corner support further includes three lip members where there is a lip member extending from the second end of each leg member such that the lip member is greater than or equal to a width of the leg member.

A plurality of shelf members may include three shelf members where each shelf member extends from the sides of two adjacent leg members. The three shelf members may form an “L” shape, a square shape, a triangular shape, or a five sided polygon shape. Each of the shelf members may also include a plurality of apertures contained therethrough.

Another exemplary embodiment of the corner support of the present invention includes lip members that extend from an end of one or more of the shelf members. In one aspect of the invention, each lip member may extend along the width of a leg member and the leg members adjacent shelf members. Any embodiment of the corner support of the present invention may be formed from a continuous piece of molded plastic. However, any embodiment of the corner support of the present invention may also be formed from any other type of rigid, durable material, capable of being used as a corner support such as metal, fiberglass, ceramic type material, and other various polymer materials.

The present invention is also directed to a method for making the corner support previously described above.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The present invention is hereafter described in conjunction with the following drawing figures, wherein like numerals denote like elements, and:

FIGS. 1-5 illustrate various sides of the corner support shown in FIG. 6 taken from various angles.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of one exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 6 is a side view of another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 7 is a side view of yet another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 8 is a side view of still another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 9 is a side view of yet another exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
