MULTIPURPOSE PRYING TOOL
A multipurpose prying tool, which has a handle, a prying head, which is fixedly connected to one end of the handle and has two jaws of different lengths arranged in parallel and a mouth defined between the two jaws and extending with the handle in horizontal, and a prying tip made in the form of a claw and obliquely extended from the other end of the handle for pulling out nails.
(a) Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a hand tool and more particularly to a multipurpose prying tool, which is practical for holding and turning wooden plates, pulling out nails, and driving in nails.
(b) Description of the Prior Art
Various lumber turning tools are known. U.S. Pat. No. 4,762,303 discloses a lever type tool, which comprises an elongated handle, and a head having two opposed and spaced apart claws projecting in generally the same direction at opposite sides of a space to closely receive a portion of a rectangular cross section of a lumber member. One of the claws at one side of the space is substantially shorter in length than the other of the claws at the opposite side of the space. U.S. Pat. No. 4,826,136 is substantially similar to U.S. Pat. No. 4,762,303 with the exception that the claws have first inner surfaces; one claw has an outward convex outer surface to engage a work surface, and a second inner surface offset relative to the first inner surface thereof and toward the convex outer surface.
The aforesaid two conventional designs can only be used to turn lumbers and to pull out nails. Further, these two designs are not orthopedically engineered. Because the head and the handle are aligned in line, the user must employ much effort when operating the tool to turn a lumber.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. According to one aspect of the present invention, the multipurpose prying tool comprises a handle, a prying head at one end of the handle, and a prying tip at the other end of the handle. In one embodiment of the present invention, the prying tip is made in the form of a claw and curved from one end of the handle for pulling out nails. Further, the prying head has a mouth adapted for holding and turning wooden plates.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the mouth extends from the handle at substantially 0° or 180° relative to the handle so that the prying tool can conveniently be used for different purposes with less effort.
According to still another aspect of the present invention, two protruding blocks are bilaterally provided in the mouth so that the mouth can be used to hold and turn wooden plates of different thicknesses.
According to still another aspect of the present invention, the prying tip curves outwards to fit a right-handed user, or inwards to fit a left-handed user.
According to still another aspect of the present invention, the prying head has a face at one side for driving in nails.
According to still another aspect of the present invention, the prying tip has a nail-prying hole for pulling out nails, and a beveled work edge on the distal end. Alternatively, the prying tip has a nail-prying hole and a V-notch for pulling out nails.
Referring to
The handle 1 is a long bar having an I-shaped cross section. Further, an anti-slip grip 11 may be bonded to the periphery of the handle 1 (see
The prying head 2 comprises a long jaw 211, a short jaw 212, and a mouth 21 defined between the longjaw 211 and the shortjaw 212. The mouth 21 extends from the handle 1 at substantially 0° or 180° relative to the handle 1. The long jaw 211 and the short jaw 212 each have parallel teeth 221 or 222 arranged on the inner side and facing the mouth 21. The long jaw 211 has one end, namely the fixed end, joined with the fixed end of the short jaw 212 to the handle 1, and the other end, namely the free end, provided with a V-notch 23 for pulling out nails. Further, the long jaw 211 has a face 24 at one side of the fixed end for driving in nails, etc.
The prying tip 3 according to the embodiment shown in
Further, the prying tip 3 can be curved from the handle 1 toward an outer side to fit a right-handed user (see
A prototype of multipurpose prying tool has been constructed with the features of
Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
