TOWEL FOR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES

Abstract

A towel for athletic activities is disclosed. The towel comprises an inner layer made out of a moisture absorbing material secured on a bicep of an athlete and an outer layer made out of a flexible moisture absorbing material affixed to the inner layer. An opening defined between the inner and outer layers permits inserting a hand, stretching the outer layer and using it to wipe sweat off of the forehead and other parts of the body.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a towel for athletic activities for absorbing and removing sweat on the forehead and body of an individual during sporting activities, such as playing basketball or a great variety of other sports.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Conventionally, athletes use sweat bands worn on the forehead for absorbing sweat on the forehead and preventing it from rolling down the face into the eyes. Another variety of sweat bands is worn on a wrist and used for wiping sweat off of the forehead.

However, the head and wrist sweat bands lack the capacity to absorb massive amounts of sweat generated by many professional athletes, such as basketball players, during sporting events. In fact, only a towel is up to the task. However, carrying a towel during sporting activities is not practicable. Accordingly, what is needed is a towel for athletic activities providing sufficient sweat absorption and convenience in use.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The towel for athletic activities according to this invention satisfies this need. Specifically, it comprises an inner layer made out of a moisture absorbing material and an outer layer made out of a flexible moisture absorbing material, both having a substantially rectangular shape, such as the long sides of inner and outer layers form an opening between them. The inner layer is secured on a bicep of an athlete by way of two flaps comprising Velcro strips, for absorbing sweat from the athlete's bicep. The outer layer can be stretched and used to wipe sweat off of the forehead.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

This invention will be better understood with the reference to the drawing figures FIG. 1 through FIG. 3. The same numerals refer to the same elements in all drawing figures.

Viewing now, simultaneously, FIG. 1 and 2, numeral 10 indicates an outer layer. Outer layer 10 has a substantially rectangular shape and is made out of a flexible moisture absorbing material, such as terrycloth elasticized for stretching. Outer layer 10 comprises a pair of opposite short sides indicated by number 10a and a pair of opposite long sides indicated by numeral 10b.

Numeral 20 indicates an inner layer. Inner layer 20 is made out of a moisture absorbing material, such as terrycloth. Inner layer 20 is shaped and sized substantially identically to outer layer 10 and also comprises a pair of opposite short sides indicated by numeral 20a and a pair of opposite long sides indicated by numeral 20b. Inner layer 20 is affixed to outer layer 10 along short sides 10a and 20a, such that long sides 10b and 20b define an opening between inner layer 20 and outer layer 10.

Numeral 30 indicates flaps. Flaps 40 have a substantially rectangular shape and are disposed in an opposite fashion affixed to short sides 10a and 10b.

Flaps 30 comprise attachment means releasably coupling flaps 30. The preferred embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 shows the attachment means as two pairs of mating strips which when placed in contact with each other form a releasable fastening, such as Velcro strips, indicated by numeral 40. At least one such pair of mating strips is necessary.

Numeral 50 indicates an elastic cord. Elastic cord 50 is disposed along long sides 10a and functions to assist stretching of outer layer 10 and maintaining the shape of outer layer 10 when it is not stretched.

Viewing now FIG. 3, numeral 60 indicates an athlete using the towel for athletic activities according to this invention. Velcro strips 40 (not visible in FIG. 3) engage each other releasably coupling flaps 30, thereby securing inner layer 20 around a bicep of the wearer.

Inner layer 20 is fitted directly snugly around the bicep and serves to absorb sweat generated by and near the bicep. Outer layer 10 works by inserting a hand in the opening defined between outer layer 10 and inner layer 20, stretching the elastic material of outer layer 10 and using outer layer 10 to wipe sweat off of forehead and other parts of the body.

While the present invention has been described and defined by reference to the preferred embodiment of the invention, such reference does not imply a limitation on the invention, and no such limitation is to be inferred. The invention is capable of considerable modification, alteration, and equivalents in form and function, as will occur to those ordinarily skilled and knowledgeable in the pertinent arts. The depicted and described preferred embodiment of the invention is exemplary only, and is not exhaustive of the scope of the invention. Consequently, the invention is intended to be limited only by the spirit and scope of the appended claims, giving full cognizance to equivalents in all respects.

Claims

1. A towel for athletic activities comprising:

(a) a substantially rectangular outer layer made out of a flexible moisture absorbing material comprising a pair of opposite short sides and a pair of opposite long sides;

(b) an inner layer made out of a moisture absorbing material shaped and sized substantially identically to the outer layer, affixed to the outer layer along the short sides, such that the long sides define an opening between the inner layer and the outer layer, wherein the inner layer is fitted directly snugly around a bicep of the wearer;

(c) a pair of opposite substantially rectangular flaps affixed to the short sides comprising attachment means releasably coupling the flaps, thereby securing the inner layer around the bicep.

2. A towel for athletic activities as in claim 1, wherein the attachment means comprises at least one pair of mating strips which when placed in contact with each other form a releasable fastening.

3. A towel for athletic activities as in claim 2, further comprising an elastic cord disposed along the long sides of the outer layer.
