Constantine exhibition drill training bayonet

The Constantine Exhibition Drill Training Bayonet is a soft steel, smooth rounded edge bayonet that would be welded directly to a drill rifle component. It would be used primary for rifle exhibition drill team practices, providing added safety and durability unlike standard bayonets.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This application relates to bayonets fixed to weapons used for military exhibition drill and ceremonies with dramatically improved durability and safety during practices and training for said exhibition drill and ceremonies.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

For years the service exhibition drill teams and other professional drill teams have performed and practiced with the standard service issue bayonet for the M1903 and M1 Garand rifles. Because they were created for a much different purpose, these bayonets are brittle and sharp which invariably causes unnecessary hardship and injury during the difficult learning process of training. Because of their brittle nature, these bayonets break easily when dropped, and though they have been ‘dulled’, their edges are still narrow and somewhat pointed which causes excessive injury; it may be a bit ironic, but for this application, this is not the intent of these bayonets. I created the training bayonet to withstand the daily abuse of exhibition drill training while maintaining a much higher level of safety.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Because of the malleability of the soft steel used, the training bayonet will readily bend and not break when dropped. This occurs often during the learning phase of a rifle exhibitionist.

Because all the edges are relatively thick, smooth and rounded, the chances of injury are greatly reduced.

Because of the simplicity of no moving parts, durability is greatly increased; the bayonet is welded directly to a rifle component so it cannot be readily removed, greatly reducing the chance of inadvertent detachment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the training bayonet.

FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of the training bayonet of FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is a top plan view of the training bayonet of FIG. 1.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the training bayonet of FIG. 1 mounted to a ceremonial drill or practice rifle.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Area A is the welding point to permanently fix the bayonet to the rifle.

The blade and hilt are a single, solid piece of soft steel C with a rounded smooth tip and edges, B and D.

Claims

1. A bayonet that is made out of soft, non brittle, metal or other malleable material, that is connected to the rifle at the discharge end of a rifle barrel.

2. All edges, including the ‘blade’ portion of the device claimed in claim 1, are smooth edged and rounded.

3. There are no sharp edges.

4. No moving or adjustable parts.

5. Hilt is welded directly to a weapon component.
