GUN SIGHTING
A gun sighting kit (8) and a method for gun sighting are preformed by placing a clear sheet (12) having a concentric circular graph (10) over a cluster of shots (32) on a target (28) that need only have a center location (30). A center (16) of the concentric circular graph has a hole (16′) through which a center (36) of the shot cluster is marked. The kit (8) also includes a square grid (18) on a clear sheet (20) that is then placed over the marked target so that a center (22) of the grid is located at the target center in order to permit determination of the horizontal and vertical deviation of the shot cluster center (36) from the target center, in order to permit necessary gun sight adjustment for proper aiming.
1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a kit and method for sighting a gun in order to permit adjustment of an associated gun sight for proper gun aiming during use.
2. Background Art
Gun sighting and any necessary adjustment are conventionally performed by firing rounds of the gun at a preprinted target that may be either a graph and/or concentric circular scoring rings such as disclosed by United States patents: U.S. Pat. No. 197,397 O'Neil; U.S. Pat. No. 3,118,674 Curren; U.S. Pat. No. 4,244,586 Gorrow and U.S. Pat. No. 6,213,470 Miller; and by U.S. patent application Publication US 2005/0268520 Ugolini et al. For gun aiming in this conventional manner, one must necessarily have a type of preprinted target when the aiming is to be performed which may result in a convenience interruption in addition to the cost involved.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONAn object of the present invention is to provide an improved gun sighting kit.
In carrying out the above object, the gun sighting kit of the invention includes a light transmitting sheet supported concentric circular graph having a center. A gun is aimed at a target which needs only a center target location such that a plurality of rounds establish a cluster of shots on the target. The concentric circular graph is placed over the target shot cluster such that the graph center determines a center of the shot cluster. A light transmitting sheet supported square grid of the gun sighting kit has a center and is then placed over the cluster of shots on the target to determine the horizontal and vertical deviation of the shot cluster center from the target center location to determine any necessary adjustment of the gun sight for proper gun aiming.
In the preferred construction of the gun sighting kit, separate light transmitting sheets respectively support the concentric circular graph and the square grid and both the concentric circular graph and the square grid are each supported on a clear light transmitting sheet. Furthermore, the concentric circular graph has a hole through the light transmitting sheet to permit marking of the shot cluster center on the target.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved method for sighting a gun.
In carrying out the above object, the improved method for sighting a gun in accordance with the invention is performed by firing a plurality of rounds at a target, which need only have a center target location, to establish a cluster of shots. A light transmitting sheet supported concentric circular graph having a center is placed over the cluster of shots and positioned with respect to the cluster of shots so its center establishes a shot cluster center. A light transmitting sheet supported square grid is then placed over shot cluster to determine the horizontal and vertical deviation of the shot cluster center from the center target location to thereby determine any necessary adjustment of the gun sight for proper aiming.
In the preferred practice of the gun sighting method, the concentric circular graph and the square grid are supported on separate light transmitting sheets and separately placed over the target from each other, and both the concentric circular graph and the square grid are each supported on a clear light transmitting sheet. Also, the concentric circular graph is supported on a light transmitting sheet having a hole through which the shot cluster center is marked on the target. Furthermore, any abnormal shots are ignored upon establishing the shot cluster center by the concentric circular graph.

After determining the shot cluster deviation, the gun can be adjusted horizontally and/or vertically as necessary and the sighting process can then be repeated once or more as necessary to insure that the gun is properly sighted.
While the preferred embodiment and practice of the invention have been illustrated and described, it is not intended that this embodiment and preferred practice illustrates and describes all possible forms of the invention. Rather, the words used in the specification are words of description rather than limitation, and it is understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
